Anxiety, Depression High Among Young Heavy Metal Fans
Well what "metal"?
Are they testing them with Nightwish or are they testing them with Dio?
Are they going heavy or speed?
Black or Liquid?
Hair or Metalcore?
There's a lot of variables as opposed to just "metal".
lmao
only black is true metal
well now I'm curious about ska music, not just saying that as a fan of ska, but a lot of ska-punk/third wave ska is very self-depreciating type of music (obviously lyrically wise) especially shit like Bomb the Music Industry! and Reel Big Fish
I'm glad they mentioned that their anger levels were no different, since that's one stereotype I've never agreed with. All the metalheads I know are some of the calmest people I've met, usually because the music itself acts as a form of stress relief.
You have to keep in mind though that this survey was done on college students, there's a lot of difference between a metalhead at that age and an older one.
Metal heads and Fadoracore listeners have a lot in common.
It was bloody obvious they were trying to make up for something by being "kvlt" or whatever they called dressing up like a knob and listening to music which sounds similar to gravel in a tumbledryer.
Well
I feel fine
Hooray for not falling into the common statistic.
when a post like this comes up in every discussion about metal, i can totally understand why fans of the genre have high anxiety
As stupid as it sounds, to someone who actually listens to Metal it's not exactly hard to give things that many labels.
It's still amusing though.

metal is pretty diverse, you kind of need the labels

Dio sounds like gravel in a tumbledryer?
what about people who listen to a large amount of post-rock
Introspective, feel-riders is what they are.

if someone said "i listen to electronic music" it would be just as descriptive as if someone said "i listen to metal"

it applies to most genres really
I love how no one is actually talking about the thread topic, and just arguing about different types of metal.
Well gee, this is really surprising.
Love metal and am a very happy person, but I do know some of the broody ones and I can kind of see why. It's darker. Edgy, I guess. It's sad to say that but because of that I take comfort in having started liking metal after my angsty teen years.
Now, is it due to the fact that they listen to heavy metal because they have high anxiety/depression?
Or is it they have high anxiety/depression because they listen to heavy metal? :v:

Not particularly funny, but probably the latter

I listen to heavy metal and I feel just fine apart from pressure from Uni. Which is not related to heavy metal. I'm as jolly as one can be even though I can listen to some pretty angry music. I listen to lots of other stuff too though.
I mean, people like different kinds of movies. Some like romantic movies, some like fast paced action movies. Same goes for music, I prefer fast paced "action" music over slow paced romantic stuff.
Bad example I guess but whatever.

Welcome to a discussion about Metal.
''THAT'S not Metal, THIS is Metal. Not trve kvlt enough bro'' etc.

Post-Avant Jazzcore is better than Progressive Dreamfunk
Listen to a little bit of everything in the punk to metal spectrum (including "shittycore" bands, sue me), and I feel like one of the least depressed people I know. Though the introverted bits are true.

"How can they call themselves Black Metal when they use Hi-Fi equipment? And where the fuck are the bracers with the nails? These guys suck!"
I like to listen to face hardened steel plates, sometimes rolled, cold bent aluminium ingots, but once in a while, nothing beats a good old lead pipe.
I have also tried a bit of selenium and tellurium but they seem to be barely metal at all, to me.

Clearly a scrub, everyone knows that mercury is the best metal, fluid and adaptable, like the best parts of all other metals distilled into one.

I don't even know what the fuck half of the genres I hear about are, if there's guitars and it sounds "heavy" it's metal, and everything is pop for me.
This makes me want to listen to a dubstep remix of Gregorian chants.

It's completely soft and shapeless, tho.
It really poisons your taste, man.
yep yep. I'm in this group 100%

what kind of metal do you listen to?
Does speedcore and Noise count? If so then it explains alot.
