I am reminded of Ebay's new logo which is equally boring.
personally i like the cursive one, it'd look pretty good on their services IMO
Congrats, Yahoo, you made a new logo that looks like something I can make in Photoshop in under 10 minutes.
Congrats, Yahoo, you made a new logo that looks like something I can make in Photoshop in under 10 minutes.
Gradient plus text in two sizes in purple. I can do that in under five minutes.
What's with flat overly simple design being so popular lately? I'd rather have something that breaks every convention but looks cool than "lol it's one color on one background color. Oh you thought we'd at least make the shape not look like it was made with a stencil? NOPE"
trendy-ass bullshit
I have a lot of family who still use yahoo for email. I don't know why on earth they would want to, but they do.
Anybody else remember when this was where you went for things to read? http://web.archive.org/web/19961228024612/http://www.yahoo.com/
Yahoo is just following the newest design trend. Marketing used to be about selling stuff, now it's about an experience, a relationship. But if anyone learned anything from the rise of Helvetica it's that designers will eventually recoil away from an established style, no matter how clean orfincrionsl. So just wait a few years when everyone's using a 2 gradient UI and you'll see a new trend emerge.
Gradient plus text in two sizes in purple. I can do that in under five minutes.
Really? And you couldn't pick a serif font and then drag each letter up or down a bit and splash it red? You couldn't pick Google's font and make each letter a different color? You couldn't make ebay's logo by typing letters, randomly resizing them, and dragging them randomly over eachother? Seriously - these logo designs were terrible. Their new logo is recognizable - just as much so as the previous one. It's also much smoother on the eyes, less childlike and obnoxious, and simpler. I hate when people think minimalistic design is just a total fashion trend and that the world is going back to cyberpunk 80's any second now. These designs work, believe it or not. People put so much work into these designs because they have to be recognizable and simultaneously easy on the eyes and simplistic. It's not an intern slapping something together in photoshop - there's hundreds and thousands of design iterations, and most of them are thrown out the window. Microsoft's logo change was incredibly recognizable. You had a bolded, italicized serif font with a little tweak between two letters. Now? A four-pane color window and you're done. That's it. There's no identifying a tiny little logo anymore. Internet businesses are increasingly about brand recognition, and 90s logos aren't very conducive to that. Four colors and some text? Instantly recognizable. A solid black apple with a chunk out of it? Instantly recognizable. A purple Y in a circle? Bam, done.
this thread is full of the most critically acclaimed graphic designers in the world and i thank you for sharing your thoughts
I hope they reimplement that old "YahOOOoooOO!" when you clicked on the dot of the exclamation point that they had years back.
Ugh I still have my alternative yahoo mail [sp] primary is AOL D: [/sp]
Gradient plus text in two sizes in purple. I can do that in under five minutes.
Well fuck you, not all of us are professionals!
how is yahoo still relevant
Old people and Japan
this thread is full of the most critically acclaimed graphic designers in the world and i thank you for sharing your thoughts
You don't have to be a designer to appreciate or critique a design. After all Yahoo didn't change the logo to appeal to graphic designers but to everybody.
The reason people use yahoo emails is that because they're quick to set up. They're pretty good to spam websites with.
And/or because AT&T forces us
You don't have to be a designer to appreciate or critique a design. After all Yahoo didn't change the logo to appeal to graphic designers but to everybody.
uhhh
Metro. What a surprise.
They are all pretty much just different fonts. A logo should be something iconic, not a word in a new font.
aargh yes yahoo yes im so excited for all these new Experiences and Offerings
ITT people who don't study typography or design and think it's just as easy as going into any program, typing the name, and picking a random font [editline]8th August 2013[/editline]
They are all pretty much just different fonts.
This took me about five minutes. Ignoring the jagged edges, and some missed details I don't see how this could have taken less than a day.
you are a massive idiot
you are a massive idiot
Fuck me, I didn't watch the video. God damn it, I thought the logo in OP's post was the actual logo. Never mind.
I for one love Google's products. I never use Yahoo. I went on a binge wanting new things so I tried a new email account on hotmail and yahoo and it was just clunky and annoying. That being said, I don't really like the new changes with tabs to Gmail. It's confusing. Works great on cellphones though and honestly I WAS losing emails in my mess of an inbox.
When sky switched their email provider to yahoo I started getting 10x the amount of spam that I did before
Does anybody use Yahoo! for anything but mail these days? I remember back when it used to be a competitor with Google but I don't think anybody's touched its search engine in years
Their weather and stock API's are superb and they have a lot of other non search engine stuff going on as far as I can remember.
What is this bullshit. Why can't we just keep this logo and be happy: I can't stand all these stupid "simple" logos popping up everywhere. They're so bland and boring it's ridiculous.
Unless they make an ad that they're making a time machine to take them to the time when they were relevant next month. No one's gonna give a shit.
