I am reading "The wildlife of our bodies" by Rob Dunn, and it has examples of some very interesting side affects of evolution and extinction. For example many digestive diseases (like crohn's) are more common in countries which have eradicated intestinal worms. Our bodies adapted to produce better immune systems to keep them in check. After removing the worms our system may be too active and attack itself. Evolution is full of little quirks like that.
That sounds like a pretty good book. I might get it. I was just thinking today that there could be benefits to getting the common cold. Maybe without it, we would poorly adjust to the winter season.

I also read about how those intestinal worms produce some enzyme that helps with the allergies.
No because if the ape died it was technically weaker in some way, either mentally or physically.
Possibly socially, I would imagine the alpha would have had a gang of cronies, if he was a massive dick to all the chimps they might have looked the other way when a couple of pricks jump him. Like a Saturday night at Megabar.
I wouldn't be surprised if war was caused by the same thing. Competition is competition.
Charlie Chaplin?
I was going to post a clip from Iron Sky, about the fuhrer Charlie Chaplin, particularly the scene where Renate and James Washington came out of the theatre after watching the full "The Great Dictator." However, it appears I cannot find it on YouTube. So just pretend I posted it. :v:
He who can evolve a knife first gets to live.
Murder has always been an animal behavior Just generally it's infanticide So it's easy to see how it could permutate to those who would impede the reproductive success of others
If you guys are interested in any other great reads on evolution I recommend "Beak of the Finch" and "Your Inner Fish", for a little more in depth "Endless forms most beautiful" is nice as well.
A major study suggests that killing among chimpanzees results from normal competition, not human interference.
I'd like to meet anyone that honestly believes animals didn't kill each other contending over resources until humans interfered.
I wouldn't be surprised if war was caused by the same thing. Competition is competition.
I remember reading a study that showed that some chimps will actually gather a group or their whole tribe and attack other tribes of chimps over resources, or even just because fuck those guys over there. So the argument I've heard that "only humans make war" is bullshit too. Evolution is so exciting.
I'd like to meet anyone that honestly believes animals didn't kill each other contending over resources until humans interfered.
Theres a difference between fighting over resources any your group going out to find another group, regardless of resources and fucking their shit up. Chimps are vile creatures. Bonobos are where its at. The use sex to solve problems rather than fighting, researchers have taught them to understand and "speak" basic english as well, I hope those 2 things don't interact in any way.

The male could sense if a female was pregnant with another male snake and it would kill her. The problem was this type of snake is almost extinct and they are killing females of their own kind.
If few weaker chimps team up and kill a big healthy alpha male, aren't they stopping the evolution, because now the weaker will get the chance to mate and spread weaker genes ? Also fast forward that 200 000 years and we have assholes ruling the world like we see today.
Chimps that have the skills to work together are superior to asocial lone wolves. "Officer, I didn't kill that woman. I was just evolvin'."
Evolution isnt concerned with whats the best, just what works.
Survival of the Fittest is something of a misnomer because it always suggests to people that it is the strongest that will survive. Evolutionary Biologists have been saying for years that it is "Survival of the Best Adapted"

I still just find it amazing to witness other creatures on similar evolutionary paths to our own, only at different paces. Makes the world feel so dynamic.

Either as a species they will evolve to no longer do this, or become extinct
