did you seriously just follow up your "daft punk is overrated" point with "Alice In Chains isn't"
I mean hell they're both good but AoC definitely gets more recognition
They may get more recognition but still. Daft Punk is overrated by the people who talk about them. Alice In Chains is often underrated by a lot of the people who like them.
Why are you all complaining its in rural Australia, they barely get any fucking attention this is a GOOD thing
We're not saying its bad, just odd.
The album is set for release on Columbia on May 21st, but on May 17th, the Wee Waa festival will host a playback of the record for the global launch party.
Daft Punk aren't going to be playing live.

Well, yeah. It's a release party.

I found this better than most stuff that Daft Punk has done.
Love Glitch Mob, love this song specifically.
Better than daft punk? Personally speaking, not at all.
I guess a way to explain it to people in terms of video games, you can looks at Daft Punk as Halo.
Halo was a great game, and had a good run. Made a lasting impact on the genre and helped bring it to mainstream light. However, the game is more acclaimed than it probably should be and there are a surprising amount of fans who seriously think Halo created the FPS genre.
Daft Punk really repopularized House music as well as generally bringing electronic music back into the scene in the 90's. The 2000's is when you saw a massive explosion of new electronic music due to various reasons like the dawn of the internet as we know it allowing people to get their work out there. However, many groups and artists often directly cite Daft Punk as an influence.
Also a good way to tell an actual daft punk fan from just a typical kiddie listener who thinks edm is cool because its the new trend now, ask them to name any song that isn't from Discovery or something like "Around the world". A lot of people tend to blindly defend and profess their love to this group without hearing anything but their major major hits like Harder Better Faster Stronger.
Personally i'm very psyched for this new album because it's more Daft Punk being Daft Punk. It's got that 90's/older sound to it and isn't changed around to fit with most EDM/Electronic Music these days. And they are apparently recording it on analogue equipment too which i think is just straight up cool.
It is almost like comparing completely different genres of music.
With the way electronic music/EDM is, it's pretty much is comparing different genres.
It's insane how many different subgenres there are that sound so drastically different.
I can't speak for the other supposed 'pretentious' and annoying fanbase, but for me, I'm a fan of Daft Punk because they were literally THE first band I had ever listened to. At the time Discovery had just come out and after hearing One More Time I pretty much begged my parents to get me the album (I was about 7-8 at the time) so they got Discovery, Homework, and Alive 1997 for me for Christmas, and I loved all of it. So, my reason for loving Daft Punk as much as I do would have to be that they were the first artist I had ever really listened to.
This is also why I'm really fucking pumped for this release
Interesting how no one in this thread has yet remembered the futility of arguing over each other opinions :v:
Futility can frequently be beautiful and enjoyable, therefore it occasionally does not hurt to intentionally perpetuate it.
People give them too much credit for things they haven't really done. They played a role in popularising House music but haven't really contributed anything that has pushed the boundaries of the genre.
im just bemused that everyone reps discovery when homework is far better and not just chic-disco samples looped
discovery to me isnt really much more than retro disco played ad nauseum and in a world where chic made their first record it doesnt really seem that forward:

you must be joking the orb, KLF, 808 State, LFO, even fucking bjork came way before daft punks first record
i mean yeah daft punk was the big pop breakthrough, but to say it brought electronic music back into the 90's is fucking ludicrous
Who?
the orb, KLF, 808 State, and LFO are the most important names in early 90's house and probably 90's dance music in general

people actually think daft punk are responsible for bringing electronic music back, christ that's depressing
There are so many 90s electronic acts that are much, much more important than daft punk when it comes to bringing electronic music back, most 90s IDM acts for one, although in reference to house there are still a lot of house artists more significant to the birth of that genre
in general its probably much more fair to say that the warp record label is by and large responsible for the birth of 90s electronic and its eventual emergence into the mainstream. Interesting to think if these artists would have been signed without Warp.
Holy fuck, I was born at Wee Waa, haven't thought of that place in years. We never lived there though. I should make a pilgrimage back there.
THIS IS THE OFFICIAL SONY MUSIC GLOBAL LAUNCH PARTY FOR ‘RANDOM ACCESS MEMORIES’ AND IS AN ALBUM PLAYBACK SESSION ONLY – DAFT PUNK WILL NOT BE IN ATTENDANCE AT THE WEE WAA SHOW.
Fuck it.
"This music is bad because it isn't the best." Cut that out guys.
You sort of have to look at them as an influence to appreciate them.
Well that's not true at all.
Wee Waa is just 4 hours away from where I live, my mom is thinking about taking me since I have always been a huge fan of them, and because I always wanted to go to their concert.

Um drawing conclusions much
noone said that
Anyone from Sydney willing to take 2 strangers on 2 7 hour roadtrips to a Daft Punk release party?
We will be well mannered and will not complain if you rape and kill us.
I hate when people push their own musical tastes as fact. Which is almost 90% of the arguments in this thread.

It wouldn't take 2-7 hours to get to Wee-Waa, it takes about 12 hours to get to sydney. Add another 4 hours (since that is how long it takes to get there), that is 16 hours.
I meant two 7 hour trips (one to, one back) and google maps said it would be 7 hours :I.

Hang on, Wee Waa is in the same direction as Sydney, my bad. I think I got confused with my home town, since the way to Wee Waa is the same way to Sydney.
i quite like this

not the actual song keep in mind
we get this from like 30 seconds of samples. some people really love this band.
I'm sorry guys, they aren't actually coming to Wee Waa, they just chose Wee Waa for the launch party, they are just going to play the Album's song.
