It says alot about yourself if your selling out your Fanbase for 3 Dollars.
What? How is this selling out your fanbase?
Whoa hold up that email with the guidelines does not say you have to praise the xbone. Only incorporate gameplay and say you're playing it. If anything, you could literally just say "im playing the xbone" and nothing else.
There is a second side though, often people are too lazy to make informed decissions.
I'm willing to bet sony are doing this as well.
Hell, Any major release has people paying people to look at things favorably, call of duty, battlefield.
Still won't make me buy either until i see some decent games come out.
I was always wondering if I was supposed to feel like this, or is it unusual that when I hear or see a commercial it only decreases the value of a product to me?
I don't know why, but when I see some adds It just looks like they're trying to push a crappy product through marketing, and I'd only buy it even less.
I was wondering if this was a way of thinking rising in popularity due to some factors (like perhaps the internet) or am I actually expected to think that way and I'm just actually being influenced by adds without knowing it?
What's the use? the entire advertising industry is based solely around lies surrounding a grain of truth, which are the most effective form of lie anyway.
Gone are the days when your product spoke for itself instead of relying on making tall claims that may or may not be true and paying people to advertise your crappy products.
"gone are the days"? How old are you because back in the "good ol' days" it was no different.

I'm pretty sure any YouTuber with large enough of a fanbase to actually feel the difference in CPM wouldn't just literally give the lowest possible quality content to meet the assignment then call it a day. For a fan it'd be just a standard monetized video, for the content producer it'd be a bit of extra cash, and for the company it'd be a few extra eyes seeing the product. This...is extremely standard, really. These offers have been around for years.
That's just good marketing
are you kidding, this is just as bad as publishers paying their way to good reviews.

We were paid to talk about it. Not say it was good.
The campaign calls it a promotion, but it's basically just a mention.

according to those guidelines you could make a video of the worst possible xbox one game you can find and completely slander it through the entire video then just say ''I'm playing this abomination on xbox one", tag your video and then you'd get paid for it.

I'm pretty sure the cars from NASCAR cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and advertisement is a way to pay for them? Correct me if I'm wrong.
this happens all the time, are people actually surprised?
We're all missing the real news here.
Castle Vidcons is back? When the Hell did that happen?
i wish doritos would go full on ironic advertising and make fun of themselves for stuff like this
I'm all for it if Geoff Keighley is the butt of the joke. That guy's a total prick.
This reminds me of the Bing commercials where they interview people on the street and they say it's better than Google because Bill Gates has a sniper aimed at them from his ivory tower.

Most advertising influence is completely subconscious. It's all about repetition so you remember their name and what to associate it with. That's why all that matters is you say "Xbox One". That's why Mcdonald's paid rappers to mention them in their songs. Hell, I'm doing it now for free.
Machinima being involved doesn't surprise me.
Who else is in on it?

Sounds like they're going to networks, not individuals.
[editline]18th January 2014[/editline]
Just like when actors on TV say they like something or wear a certain brand of clothes, right? Villainous! (Except it's not because they nobody is actually saying they like Xbone, they only have to play it)
so yeah I'm playing x game on the xbone, man it sucks massive dick. definately the worst console ever
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
didnt videogamedunkey get in trouble last summer for being paid by microsoft to review a game on XBL and then gave it a shit score because he didnt like being told what to do
In other words, the sky is blue.
To be fair, they are not paying people to praise the xbox, It doesnt even have to be positive feedback, as long as you show atleast 30 seconds of footage and say your playing on xbox.

Reading is for suckers.
[sp]And so is being an asshole. Sorry![/sp]

Microsoft is paying established networks for promoting the Xbone. What's so sensationalist about it?

From what I understand you're implying that Microsoft is being villainous for promoting a product. My mistake if you're not, but I'm guessing you're agreeing with the misleading thread title.

I'm not, I actually find their behaviour pretty common. Why should Microsoft in particular be bashed when numerous companies have already adopted this marketing strategy?

Then I'm sorry for being rude. I'm gonna blame this nasty headache I have even though it's no excuse.
Sell out uploaders will be jumping on the wagon - there's nothing like betraying your audience while misleading them into purchasing something they know little about

I vaguely remember him (or another source) saying somewhere that it didn't say whether he had to give it a positive/negative review. They forced him to take it down anyways.
i'll just post this here

So if there's an agreement they have to sign that says they can't tell anyone they're getting paid to say it, that changes things. That goes from ordinary advertising to absolutely deplorable scumbag behavior. Fuck Microsoft.
