Bitcoin is so 2013: Dogecoin is the new cryptocurrency on the block

I don't even get how doge became a meme. I just liked it when I first saw it because it was a cute dog with a perfect coat
It'll be interesting to see if this thing goes anywhere. Especially if/when more markets pick it up and recognize it as an additional currency.
Markets are going to pick up for sure (weekends are usually bad) but I don't know if people will pick up dogecoin as openly as others. Then again everything's volatile so I might be completely wrong :v:

This is, hands down, the worst currency ever created.
I would rather have dog shit currency than doge currency.
Jesus Christ, the edge is slicing me apart.
DOGE DEN

We'll see. And by markets I mean trading markets as in markets willing to accept it as a trading currency, not in terms of value for the dogecoin (DOGE?). I see DOGEs coming up to the ~amount of a peso and people will have millions of these DOGEs. Consquentially they won't be worth anything due to the previously mentioned reason of massive volumes of DOGEs.
I can't decide if I want to try mining this. I already have a 7950 for gaming. It honestly seems pretty dumb but if it picks up and I profited, well you can't really argue with that.
This is fucking ridiculous.

wait does this mean the people who got like 100,000 of them when it was worth picopennies are rich now
fuck my life

their value was only up that high for a couple of minutes, so yes some people with massive quantities likely sold off most/all of their share, got a lot of return and was the likely factor (combined with it being pulled off of markets including this one) to push the value back down
While this is getting hate for being pretty stupid (and I admit that it is), it also seems like a good opportunity to experience the beginnings of bitcoin all over again and see what could have happened had Bitcoin not worked out.
I can't believe someone actually spent their time creating this thinking it was a cool idea
the person who created it is probably going to get crazy bank out of it
if I cared to keep up with it I'd probably drop five bucks in the hopes it spikes
I love when people hate a meme that they used to like just because it's now popular while the rest of us that never gave a shit, still don't give a shit.
I'm going to put like $2 in because of how firmly retarded people are
Doge + "ohshit I missed bitcoin"
It will either spike or tank incredibly hard
Jesus Christ. People are spending upwards of $300 buying in bulk (millions) on the official forum.

I personally would not spend any money on these. BTC prices are dropping consistently at this point and because dogecoin's primary purpose at this point is BTC exchange. In fact, looking at this particular graph of the year in review for BTC, looking at the far edge it's almost a straight shot downwards. I would hold off on investing until either BTC stabilizes or dogecoin starts rapidly picking up in price (like around late January of this year for BTC). Because dogecoins are primarily used currently in exchange for BTC I'd imagine dogecoin prices will be stagnate or decrease even further as BTC continues its plummet.
Wanted to humour it and put in a tiny amount
Turns out this is really fucking complicated
Well I guess its time to mine dogecoins.
kill me

I wouldn't go so far as to say that BTC will keep plummeting until it hits zero. It's entirely possible that the price peaked at ~$1100/btc but I believe that prices will most likely stabilize around the $850 mark for a little bit, unless something new comes into play (ie. some wide scale accepting of bitcoin or banning of it, etc). As all other cryptocurrencies are more or less tied to its value (as they're based off of the original bitcoin protocol, each with different changes (ie. cpu vs gpu, sha-256, scrypt, etc)) coins like doge will certainly follow the same sort of trend. Right at this instant, prices will most likely start levelling off after such a drop (which was the result of a combination of unconfirmed rumors affecting opinions of investors in China and the subsequent period of panic sell-offs) and can already be seen, even with BTC (it hit a low of $678 and is back up to $764 as of this post). So I wouldn't be too pessimistic right now.
As for the relevancy and viability of dogecoin, I'm still unsure. The dogecoin community seems to agree at the current moment that it shouldn't be added to cryptsy and other trading markets as they don't want it to lose individuality power and blend into the other alts, so the only site right now that trades DOGE is Coinedup, which doesn't trade many other alts apart from FTC, LTC, and a few others. Like others have said, the 8 billion volume of dogecoin is quite large in comparison to others (excluding Tickets and devcoin) so it could potentially dilute the individual coin value for the long-term. But hey, even if the value goes up to $1 (we already saw it spike to $6 after it was featured on The Verge), many people will be happy as they are mining thousands per day.

As much as I would love it, I agree that it won't plummet anywhere close to near zero in the forseeable future. However at this point BTC is dropping in price (roughly 730 right now according to Preev). Like you said, all cryptocurrencies are related to BTC and you can clearly see what is happening to the cryptocurrency market right now in these graphs: http://coinmarketcap.com/. Dogecoin won't become valuable until BTC either stabilizes or starts picking up in price in my opinion and right now we can't see that.

If that was the spike that caused the removal of the listing then it was pretty obvious that spike was unintentional (considering people had millions and could have become multi-millionaires by investing a few hundred dollars). It's extremely unlikely the price will ever reach even so much as $1.00 just because of the total cap of dogecoins (about 7.5 billion coins) being so high. It'll be lucky to reach fifty cents in my opinion.

Speaking of dropping BTC just dropped below 720.
I have a feeling people are going to spam create new variations of bitcoin just in case one of them gets their price inflated by hordes of greasy neckbeards who want to make a quick buck.

If true, then this parody trash has good merit for existing after all.
I actually thought the dog picture was funny a long time ago but it's just ruined for me now with all of this shit

Like I said, it's extremely volatile so don't fret if it's fluctuating between 700 and 800. In a few hours we should start to see it stabilize more and possibly increase.

same here but I keep getting this " Out Of Sync" from the Wallet anyone know how to fix it.?
same here but I keep getting this " Out Of Sync" from the Wallet anyone know how to fix it.?
The wallet actually has to sync up with the blockchain (where you'll be mining from). On the bottom of your wallet application, there should be a bar that says "x weeks/days/blocks remaining". This process could take several hours depending on the coin, but for dogecoin it should take two hours max. Your wallet won't start to sync up earned coins until it's done.
i actually started mining these just as a joke to show my friend and i apparently have almost 3k of them after two hours. sorta hoping they do go up so i can sell now.
This is fucking stupid. There are like 392852 cryptocurrencies out there. I saw these dogecoin threads getting spammed all over 4chan and thought that people were smart enough not to let it rise over $0. I guess I had too much faith in people.
I've been solo mining for over an hour and the balance is still 0.00 DOGE
I tried pool but it after all the logins and application downloads I gave up and just hit DIG

Solo mining is more difficult (though more or less more profitable in the long term) because you're mining by yourself and will only receive the dogecoin rewards upon breaking a block, which may take quite a long time. With pools, everyone makes it a joint effort and "splits" the earnings (not really sure how evenly, but you know) so it's more of an instant reward than digging in by yourself.
I was interested in how cryptocurrencies worked, but didn't get into Bitcoin in time. I'm gonna drop $10 on this and see how it pans out just to satiate my curiosity.
Already mined 20k,
to the moon y'all.
