The footage they showed really put them in a better light so it's no wonder they chose it over other footage to show. They (allegedly) destroyed a few cameras but it's hard to say they were under orders to find all recording equipment and destroy it. Cutting off communications is also a strange move but I can't really think why it matters when they were going to release them later to give whatever story they wanted. It's apparently standard procedure but who knows.

Multiple people said there were loud bangs at a pretty similar time with no evidence of collaborated stories. It doesn't prove that live rounds were fired at the civilians but you can't completely discredit it because they might be lying.
