People freak out because they know how innocent a pet can be. It's also not common for dogs to be killed by a person for enjoyment. I own a cat, and if I had to choose between two lives, my cat or some random person I'd never see I would choose my cat. It's the same with dogs, and it's also the same with your friends/girlfriend/boyfriend/parents/kids and so on.

While on this world, time in the real world freezes until I snap my fingers and come back. I would spend most of my time in my magic world though and bring visitors with me. We could run around with unicorns all day and roll in flowers, but NO I wake up to some fucker killing and torturing dogs, and an awesome country getting fucked up by an earthquake, and wars and murders. And because such people are beyond help, beyond rehabilitation. They're psychopaths or sociopaths, and the best cure they can hope for, in my humble opinion, is a bullet to the head.
