She was there illegally, I don't see why she should have any human rights.

Same as I think that prisoners should lose their rights.
Oh wow.
Injure yourself.
Go back. Sorry you were shackled by some redneck fucks, but you're here illegally and that still matters.
Holy fucknut I forgot that people born inside the US no matter their parents status are US citizens upon birth. =|
You're wrong on both counts.
As for the first, there's the "Elliott Ozment, says that he will ask the judge who oversaw the case to grant his client a U-visa, a special status that can be conferred on victims of crimes who are in the country illegally." part.
As for the second, she's from Mexico, not born in the US.

She MAY get it, it is not decided yet.

I was referring to her newborn.
i didnt even know illegal immigrants had the ability to file lawsuits or take legal action safely.
glad to know they can
some people are so bigoted, jesus
"they're here illegally so I think they shouldn't have any rights at all!!"
you people are what's wrong with america.
She MAY get it, it is not decided yet.
I know, so saying "sorry, you have to go back" is a stupid thing to say when she's pending approval for something like the U-Visa.

lol the forum where i got this people were mad that they could
brings me a little hope that not all internet users are ignorant
She's definitely pushing it.
they are illegal immigrants not animals...
If they can't abide by the rules why should they have the pleasure of being treated well? They should get the very minimum required treatment - no luxuries for prisoners, and illegal immigrants should be shackled and returned to their country.
It's her fault she went into a country illegally while pregnant, she should have thought about it beforehand.
Oh wow.
Kill yourself.
Judging by your username I'll make the same recommendation.

I'm not American. Good job at showing Americans have a lot of sense.

I'm glad she won her suit, but that still doesn't mean she should get citizenship here. She should be deported and given the money shes entitled to. Hell, she should use the money she got to naturalize normally.
Fox News comments are still far worse, but CNN's not fairing much better on this one:
To all you f8cking tree huggers & soccer moms out there, don't act like as if your opinions even matter on this issue. If you think that illegals deserve the same status as a citizen, then you need to leave the f8cking country & die. Seriously, tree huggers go back to the boonies, & soccer moms stay in the f8cking kitchen

Scum lives here, don't speak intelligently, don't want to pay taxes (they just spend the money on drugs and have 500 children), they drive without a license (hit & run=no i.d.), steal identities, steal credit cards, & shove all their crack babies into our schools, then end up ruining the school's reputation for having the lowest aptitude tests, & lets not forget gang organizations. Sounds like Atlanta.

Illegals just come here, don't want to speak English, don't want to pay taxes (they just send the money back to Mexico to their 500 children), they drive without a license (hit & run=no i.d.), they are not in the system (get away with murder if wanted to), steal social security, steal credit cards, & shove all their non-English speaking children into our schools, then end up ruining the school's reputation for having the lowest aptitude tests, & lets not forget gang organizations....... *breathes*

Because she claimed her "Human" rights were violated. She has no basis to file civil rights violation charges due to her illegal status.
Fortunately there are also some more reasonable people here:
At DFW- We aren't acting like Iran. She's being sent home- not having her nose/ears cut off or being stoned.

Two wrongs dont make it right. So she is here illegally but she still entitled to basic human rights and dignity. You dont shackle a prisoner if shes pregnant. What if the baby died as the result of it?
You have to wait until the U-Visa request is either approved or denied. You can't just say "sorry, deported" and be done with it.

who gives a fuck, stupid is stupid
maybe I don't look at useragents, that doesn't mean my post is any less credible, thinking someone HUMAN who immigrates ILLEGALLY should have absolutely NO rights is asinine.

A lot of Mexican citizens don't have the luxury of waiting 6-15 years to get American citizenship, and even then that's only if they have a marketable skill or family in the country already.
Taking away human rights because of this is nonsensical and immoral.
lol this illegal immigrant knows more about American rights than most legal Americans do.

You know what, I still think this story is kinda stupid, but I believe there should be an easier way to become a naturalized US citizen.
There's no question that the immigration policies in the U.S. are fubar.

The legal immigration process is weighted pretty heavily against Mexico, given their current situation.

They shouldn't have arrived in the first place. They should be sent back where they came from as fast as possible, and not given luxuries during the process. They are criminals, not citizens.
The legal immigration process is weighted pretty heavily against Mexico, given their current situation.
Well yeah, other then Canada they're right next to us, so their immigration here is a "problem" to some. I personally have a problem with the lazy and violent bunch of Mexicans that give other Mexicans a bad rep, because they're fucking everywhere in Southern California.
Let her stay in a damn hotel for a year while she does the tests and shit. Problem solved.

I've been up and down our state many times, and while I have met unpleasant immigrants, I see no reason to be displeased with immigrants, only with unpleasant people.

Luxuries? Yes, because a fair trial and treatment like a human being is "luxurious". The police committed a crime against her fair worse than her simply entering this country, so they are in no position to be talking to this woman about crime.

no her lawyer does

Rights aren't rights if they can be taken away, period.

Fair trials are for citizens. She's not a citizen and never was.
Rights aren't rights if they can be taken away, period.
Rights and responsibilities. You don't take the responsibilities, you don't get the right. Pretty simple system, and rights can be taken away - which is the way it should be.
She's a quick learner.
Fair trials are for citizens. She's not a citizen and never was.
Actually fair trials are for people. She is a person, she gets a fair trial.

In Scotland, we get the right to free higher education. Are you saying that a prisoner should get that right too? When it's already costing the state £40,000 a year to keep them there.
Basic rights aren't removable. Additional rights are/should be.
[editline].[/editline]
I personally think the penal system should really aim at removing all but the most basic rights of people who are in prison. That would prevent re-offending. I'm not saying starve people or whatever - give them food, water, a basic bed, showers and whatnot, but stuff like sky TV, pool tables... it's meant to be a punishment, not a free place to stay.

Assuming the prisoner has been released from prison then yes. Because once you are out of prison your debt to society should be considered repayed.

Punishment-based penal systems aren't justice. Locking prisoners up and treating them like dogs has actually been shown time and time again to increase the rates at which people re-offend when released back into society.

I don't like it, but yes, that's what should happen. Physically their debt isn't paid, because society had to pay to keep them there.
