I mean, it was a good guess as to why some women got pregnant and others didn't. The muscle movements from the orgasm carried the particles deeper, which when applied to sperm improves the odds of pregnancy. The particles allowed them to see this process happening.
This study is just saying orgasm's don't make women fertile. An infertile woman can have just as many, or lack of, orgasms as a fertile woman. The system either works or it doesn't, orgasms aren't an indicator of a functioning system. Just like guys. We just call it shootin' blanks.

Imagine from the perspective of our very first ancestors during a time in which there was no language, only impulses to do things based on it "feeling good" or "right".
Those that felt nothing for having sex would have thought it was just another useless thing you could do, and instead they would just be doing things like eating.
But those that felt "good" for doing it would have passed on their genes to the next generation.
It was probably due to the fact that it would be easier to have sex if both parties enjoyed it, thusfully those that did, had more children then those that felt it was useless due to no positive reinforcement.

One theory I've read about the female orgasm states that it promoted promiscuity in females because, let's face it, it seems like a pretty enjoyable experience, this lead to them having sex with many males in a shorter period of time. This was advantageous because ancient humans, like a lot of other primate species, had a nasty habit of committing infanticide against children that weren't their own. The males were unable to tell if the children these females wound up giving birth to were their own or another males and thus they couldn't risk killing them for risk of killing their own offspring.
At least that was the theory. Seems pretty sensible at a glance. Not sure how you'd go about testing it, though.

Honestly, does it matter? While I believe a female orgasm is a legit phenomena, it's not really an issue, either for me or her. There're always going to be people who, against all odds, don't believe what you do for whatever reason. But me? I just love to hear her every squeak and moan and shout of pleasure.
