Reminds me of that 'news story' a year ago about some school that was supposodly indoctrinating its students:
Almost true, except communism is more like the same thing except replace the fat guy/capitalist with the government. (Saying communism in it's practiced and used forms, not it's theoretical actual-meaning.)
Not to side with anyone here, but my colonial history (History from about 1877 Onward) in both High School and College (In Texas; Houston Area) was basically "Indians Indians Indians, Blacks Blacks Blacks Blacks Blacks Blacks Blacks." We learned abso-fucking-lutely nothing about the evolution of government, politics, cultural movements (sans those for African Americans, nothing about the Irish/German/Any Other Immigrant); the entire class, both times, was a real waste. Part of the blame on the teachers, part on McGraw Hill Textbooks. I know it seems like an exaggeration, but it can really be that bad sometimes. We actually had foreign and black students in College comically complain (in and amongst ourselves) that "I don't think there was a single day in here we weren't talking about Indians or African Americans." [This is just to denote that while it can seem like a reactionary over-exaggeration that schools are teaching this sorta stuff, it happens to some extent. What little we were taught economically/politically had some notion of "Captialism isn't perfect" which I'm totally fine with - because, it really isn't.]
I wouldn't even call it a "fun" thing, it's literally just asking "what are the symbols of communism and socialism you may see on a flag".
Well at least it promotes some creative thinking and enables some students to understand the content more fully if they're able to draw it.
Almost true, except communism is more like the same thing except replace the fat guy/capitalist with the government. A market economy (let's say a mixed capitalist system) doesn't turn every citizen into a pauper and a command economy (let's say state socialism) doesn't either. [editline]5th February 2013[/editline] Not by default, anyway.
Stop teaching children what to think and more how to think.
This. In my college they pretty much shove their opinion down your throat. Equality and diversity posters plastered everywhere along with the good citizen classes every Wednesday. It's not so much that it is bad opinions to say but the fact that they try to make you think in a certain way which annoys me.
anti-Christian at best and openly socialist at worst
This is bizarre when you consider how 'socialist' a lot of Jesus' ideals are...
But surely, by definition, the Boston Tea Party was a terrorist act? It was a violent movement against a country aimed to provoke terror and get what they wanted.
don't be silly only brown people can be terrorists

Is a man not entitled to stand on his box? No, says the man Washington; "It belongs to the short!" I chose something different. I chose...Texas.
This is bizarre when you consider how 'socialist' a lot of Jesus' ideals are...
It's funny to read the opinions of social conservatives in the early 20th century who supported socialism. Makes more sense to be honest.
"described participants of the Boston Tea Party as terrorists."
But they were terrorists. What they did was terrorism. They just won :v:.
I don't see anything wrong with this to be honest.
Oh god I hope you're sarcastic. But your history of shitposts is working against you.
Oh god I hope you're sarcastic. But your history of shitposts is working against you.
No, the teacher was trying to teach the kids about socialism.
"Use symbolism to represent aspects of socialism/communism on your flag. What kind of symbolism/colors would you use?" the lesson plan asks.
This lesson plan obviously asks the students to draw a flag of a hypothetical socialist state, based on their interpretation of socialism. Its actually a brilliant way of applying what they have learned in a somewhat fun and hands on way. Stupidity is overblowing this to extremes, the comments are horrendous and I hope its not what the average person thinks when they think of socialism. More importantly, why exactly do you believe that this is wrong?
socialism is pretty wonderful
yeah agreed because in capitalism everyone gets fucked by one person, at least in socialism we all get fucked equally
