Yes so there's a vast collaboration between ISPs to ruin the internet experience for everyone, nobody will dare compete against them, consequences will never be the same!!! Seriously, cite sources now or :frog:
Comcast already has caps TWC has dabbled in it but has stopped because we all bitched at them (but they are still looking at it with a VERY long stick) ATT is just plain evil so we know that if 2 or more do it then its all over Others I dont know. Those are the top 3. ATT just waits. Comcast is just full of morons and TWC is the kid on the wall who gets yelled at constantly by both sides.
I doubt that it will even make it to the house floor, just like all the others
While I completely support net neutrality, I do understand where ISP's are coming from regarding wireless internet access[WiMax,4g, etc] because their infrastructures don't have the necessary bandwidth to support HD video streaming out to hundreds and thousands of people that want to watch content like that on their mobile device. Although, with wired connections, I think there should be no filtering of content or throttling speeds. That is just ridiculous.

They just wont because their bottom line is make millions and pocket it and not spend anything on anything else.
So you would rather not have the FCC protect us all from ISP's that decide that steam is a horrible thing and should be blocked no questions asked?
I'd rather leave it up to the ISP, and change if I don't like it, rather than having the feds decide it, and leave me no recourse.
DeReggi told lawmakers he may want to block services like Netflix because they take up too much bandwidth for WiMax-based broadband. The FCC rules unfairly create the same rules for WISPs that they do for fiber-based broadband providers, he said. "One size does not work and does not fit all," DeReggi said. Many of his customers operate home-based businesses, but services like Netflix compromise those businesses, DeReggi said. "You block the source of the problem," he said. "Broadband provides jobs, not HD video."
This doesn't make very much sense to me because you are paying the ISP for continuous use of the bandwidth that they offer. If I sign up for a 5mbs download rate, they need to provide a 5mbs download rate. If they don't, they aren't holding up to their side of the deal. It seems likely to me that this company is offering high speed rates to compete with the competition, but do not actually have the ability to deliver on it. If this is true on some level, the company is falsely advertising.
Why do I live in Oregon.

Seriously, cite sources now or :frog:
Rainy Day really we pay fucking +$100 a month for wireless 54 Mbps, I am seriously getting 6 KB/s right now. and we can't switch ISPs because there are no other ISPs that cover where we live.
I'd rather leave it up to the ISP, and change if I don't like it, rather than having the feds decide it, and leave me no recourse.
The FCC was protecting people from preventing the ISP from blocking sites for zero reason at all.
Why do I live in Oregon.
Why do I live in the US. On a related note, how is the net neutrality/freedom of speech situation in Norway?
The FCC was protecting people from preventing the ISP from blocking sites for zero reason at all.
The bill also gave the FCC sole power to block websites.
They have the money to upgrade their infastructure. They just wont because their bottom line is make millions and pocket it and not spend anything on anything else.
Very good point.
Net neutrality: It's why the Internet is worth a fuck.
well then i guess my hardcore gangbang porn will download a bit slower [editline]10th March 2011[/editline] no problem really, most of the chicks in those vids look somewhere between mick jagger and dog the bounty hunter
I'd rather leave it up to the ISP, and change if I don't like it, rather than having the feds decide it, and leave me no recourse.
Not everybody can change. As much as staunch capitalists (not necessarily you) refuse to believe that monopolies can exist in a free market, they can.
Ridge still believes that Telecom doesn't have a fucking monopoly and that tele communication companies suck and control far too much shit.

I don't really see why some people complain about Comcast using caps nowadays. I have a 250 gb cap a month and I rarely ever reach over 100 gb.
I don't really see why some people complain about Comcast using caps nowadays. I have a 250 gb cap a month and I rarely ever reach over 100 gb.
Shit I reach 400-500 each month. Over a TB if I just reinstalled windows and need to redownload my crap
Except that has no basis on reality being that it's a photoshopped blogger's creation?....
Lack of net neutrality allows ISPs to offer such packages if they chose to do so. Net neutrality basically means that ISPs are not able to control the access and speeds their clients have to specific sites (unless explicitly blocked by federal government, such as child pornography): access to the public domain is neutral. A lack of such net neutrality means ISPs can have full control over what sites their clients can and can not access, and also gives ISPs the ability to control maximum speeds for various sites. Potential implications of lack of net neutrality laws includes ISPs that block or restrict homepages of rival ISPs, or alternately, ISPs that are paid by search engine A to make it so anyone who uses said ISP gets fast access to their search engine, but worse access to any other search engine (incentive to use their search engine). No net neutrality laws could have very severe implications. The extent of how far they would actually go is hard to predict, though.
Why do I live in Oregon.
Like we're not a mostly liberal democratic controlled state :P And what, you want to pay a sales tax?
Yes so there's a vast collaboration between ISPs to ruin the internet experience for everyone, nobody will dare compete against them, consequences will never be the same!!! Seriously, cite sources now or :frog:
oil companies
banks
Except that has no basis on reality being that it's a photoshopped blogger's creation?....
Virgin Media have said they would try to install services like those, or at the very least throttle connection speeds to their compeetitors and increase speeds to it's sponsors. We need net neutrality to stop shit like that.
The internet has been around for a while, why is this only a problem now?
Because the subcommittee only just voted to remove net neutrality. Everything was fine up until now.
Removing net neutrality it THE dumbest thing you can possibly do. Greed already runs most companies, you think if an ISP can get away charging more for less they wont?
Yeah so they're playing you for suckers, all i remember is when all those people got fined for obscenity haphazardly for obscene amounts of money on the radio and television. You had to be around for that, don't tell me they're all sugar and spice and everything nice after the censorship crusade they went on during the late 90's - 2000's.
You do know its a completely new group of people, right?
