So they want to be treated equally but also want special treatment. You can't have both.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/27993500
I am a transvestite, and I think this is one of the funniest cards in the deck. Look...transphobia is bad, and I hate it. But this card doesn't qualify. Mentioning a thing by name is not the same as mentioning a thing by name in a negative light. Saying "Islam" is not the same as saying "Islam is terrible."
Hey folks- I know this kid in real life. Not closely, but we definitely know each other. He's actually a very friendly dude and very understanding. While he is very involved in the social justice community and while it may seem like he's taking part in the typical tumblr outrage culture, I just thought I'd shed some light on it- he is in fact FtM and has been through a lot of shit dealing with it and other people in our community, if I'm not mistaken. On the original post on Facebook of this whole burning the cards thing I talked with him about it a bit because I didn't quite agree with his choices and he actually was very amicable. It is his property and if he wishes to remove a card that affects him (which, it does- again, he's been through a lot and honestly if he doesn't feel like dealing with that card in his own deck then all power to him). The only reason he burned it was because he likes fire, as he admitted. One of his friends even talked about removing other offensive cards like "smallpox blankets," "Auchwitz," "poorly timed Holocaust jokes," etc. and when I called him(?) out for being stupid and TOTALLY missing the point of the game where Jonah had really personal reasons to remove his card, Jonah more or less agreed. Now the poor kid is plastered all over the internet- Buzzfeed just put up an article with his face and full name and used quotes from his personal life without his permission and he's not too happy about it. Don't give him too much shit, guys. He's a very nice man and has just got caught up in things. [editline]24th June 2014[/editline] I will say though that the creator had no reason to apologize. If he had said "I'm sorry I offended you based on your close personal life experiences," that'd be fine. But there is no reason to remove any cards from the game or apologize for them. Yes, even the "date rape" card. It's literally advertised as "a card game for horrible people." The minute you start prioritizing one card as "too offensive" in a game like that, you're missing the point of your own game
i will send him an e-hug
So they want to be treated equally but also want special treatment. You can't have both.
I think they're quite used to feeling one way, and acting another.
One of the creators of the game, Max Temkin apologised on his Tumblr account, saying: "I regret writing this card, it was a mean, cheap joke. We took it out of the game a while ago."
Is anyone else pissed off by this? The game is founded on mean, cheap, offensive jokes. That's why it works, and he's upset by writing a joke about passable transvestites, instead of genocide or racism? What a fucking moron. I doubt this Temkin is doing anything but trying to stay face on Tumblr and appealing to people with thin skin.

Suck it up, buttercup. If you think you're going to take offense, don't play the game because it's purposely transgressive. That's the whole point.
I can see why they'd remove the card if transvestite was a slur, but it isn't. is it? I mean, it doesn't mean the same thing as transgender, but I didn't think it was a slur
but god forbid I take a picture of me holding a pop can backwards to make fun of a friend's post
Woah, is that legit or photoshopped? I tried doing that and I couldn't get my hand anywhere near that position.
- Snip because the argument wouldn't go anywhere -
Pretty fucking infuriating that he says this shit when there are cards in there like "Not giving a shit about the third world" but he apologized, so he understands his previous dumbassary, and that is okay
Apparently though as I have just learned today some people consider "transvestite" to be a slur for some reason.
I think it's the passable part that caused offence.
It's a game that is all about laughing at the fucked up shit humanity has to offer that you can't really laugh at otherwise. It's all about seeing terrible things put in the most absurd kind of context and pretty much laughing at how awful and absurd an answer is, isn't it? I don't even play the game much, and I hope this isn't the start of some sort of slippery slope. If there's one thing that would simply not work if it was politically correct, it'd be cards against humanity.
I think it's the passable part that caused offence.
Why should that cause offense though? There are plenty of pretty hideous transvestites out there.
Pretty fucking infuriating that he says this shit when there are cards in there like "Not giving a shit about the third world" but he apologized, so he understands his previous dumbassary, and that is okay
are you saying he's a dumbass for including the offensive card in the first place, or that he's a dumbass for apologizing for this particular card when there are many, equally as offensive, cards that are still in the game?
Why should that cause offense though? There are plenty of pretty hideous transvestites out there.
And how is "passable" more offensive than "Rush Limbaugh's soft, shitty body" or "The Chinese Asians who aren't good at math?" Personal insults and stereotypes aren't cool either. Nothing about that specific card is more problematic than a lot of other cards.
I think it's the passable part that caused offence.
How so? I've heard transgenders talk about passing before. I've never seen it in a context that grabbed me as offensive.
All this Transvestite talk makes me want a Rocky Horror Picture Show sequel
Apparently though as I have just learned today some people consider "transvestite" to be a slur for some reason.
I don't get that. I would much rather be called a transvestite than a crossdresser. I guess you can blame Tim Curry for that.
The only thing I want to pick at here is that transgender people don't want to be the opposite gender, they are the opposite gender but they don't conform to the norms expected by people of that gender because they were born the wrong sex (i.e. they look different) and were raised differently because of it. I for example was born in a male body however my brain tells me I am a woman and that my body doesn't fit i.e. it's missing some rather important and sensitive parts! But I try not to make a massive deal about it, I don't get offended easily and I don't express my feelings to a lot of people. I've played this card before and it's a difficult card to make funny but I personally don't find it offensive because I don't consider myself a transvestite. But I will agree all this gender umbrella stuff can be a bit fucking stupid at times.
whoops sorry about that. i understand the differentiation between sex and gender. i'm aware that transgender people feel inside that they are already that gender, just that the tools don't match the worker. their sex doesn't match the gender. does that make any sense that i understand?
But they have much worse cards in the deck. Why is this card so harmful in particular?
Because its the hot thing of today and "special snowflakes"
They shouldn't be. Transvestites are the exact opposite of anything LGBT. They fetishize the activity of crossdressing and do it only for sexual gratification. It's a disgusting bastardization of gender identity and I'd rather not affiliate myself with perverts like that.
Not all of us who identify as transvestites are fetishists. I'm closer to what you'd call a crossdresser, but I just prefer the more outdated term. Some people are like that.
as in every other crazy headline about things like this, everybody can come to the same conclusion if they actually read into it- The person always ends up being way more cool and understanding, just caught up with a personal thing being blasted across media with omitted context to garner more clicks. 90% of the dumb shit posted up to tumblr that we all laugh at is just over the top garbage people post thinking just their friends would see it. The humor has always been "oh man i'M CRAZY!!" amongst the general community, so we've already got Poe's law to consider with anything 'outrageous'. Even then, any attempt at intentionally getting attention and notes will end up with maybe 5 people clicking 'like', but god forbid I take a picture of me holding a pop can backwards to make fun of a friend's post, 'cause it's getting 50k, getting iterated across 9gag with memes, then dragged through my own facebook feed
And this is why you don't post ANYTHING on a public site if you don't want EVERYONE to see it.
A house rule for playing the game with me is actually that if you legitimately offend someone through the cards, you win the game. In my game this guy would have won man.
I remember playing at a friend's house. He had this girl there who had recently got an abortion and was full of christian guilt. Black card comes up: "_______. Kid tested. Mother approved." Cards go down, I'm choosing. I read them outloud one after another before finally seeing the clear winner: "coat hanger abortion" She was not pleased.

Or Big, Black Dick.
See, THAT'S the black card that I usually try to play Passable Transvestites for. Or Big, Black Dick.
it's funny just as a random thing, but it doesn't make any kind of sense at first glance, I prefer to go for more open ended things that leave the judge to make them worse(/better). For instance, "the biggest, blackest box" would (hopefully) make my friend slowly realize the mother is locking their child away in isolation or something Or 'Michael Jackson' because MJ/kid card combos are awful cheap shots and that's just the name of the game
Woah, is that legit or photoshopped? dai i tried doing that and I ended up spilling Dr. Pepper all over my lap I hope you get banned
