An age gap of 30 years would be strange and somewhat offputting no matter who the two people were.
Why?
Why?
Because marrying someone old enough to be your parent is traditionally considered very odd in most western societies.
Who views that as normal?
It's fairly normal here, men who are pretty successful but were always too busy working to get married end up with Thai or Filipino brides decades younger than them after retiring pretty often.
not gonna lie this is really gross
Because marrying someone old enough to be your parent is traditionally considered very odd in most western societies.
I suppose I'm questioning the "traditionally" part here. Considering it's a gay relationship to begin with, I can't really see how it being intergenerational is really an important factor; there isn't really a good reason why this would be off-putting other than "because."
not gonna lie this is really gross
How? You've got one person who has dealt with all kinds of personal hardships who has found a person they want to commit to for (presumably) the rest of his life. Then you have another person who presumably wants to make that commitment with the knowledge that because of the age difference, he will likely spend some of the prime years of his own life seeing Stephen to the end. Personally I think that's kind of a beautiful thing.
As a gay boy twink, we are some of the most backstabbing, manipulative, people. Elliot is after something he has and its not love.
Because marrying someone old enough to be your parent is traditionally considered very odd in most western societies.
Why should it be weird? Stephen is an awesome dude and I can see a lot of people marrying him for who he is rather than the money he has.
Why should it be weird? Stephen is an awesome dude and I can see a lot of people marrying him for who he is rather than the money he has.
I'm not saying it's weird to me. I'm just saying that, traditionally, marrying someone 30 years your elder is considered strange.
The picture in the OP makes Elliot look like a 16 year old or something. I think that's where a lot of the "this is really creepy" stuff is coming from.
this is gross to big of an age gap
I can't help it, but whenever i see a really young person marrying a much older partner i can't help but think about how creepy it is. I'm happy for him, but that's a big gap.
ya because its gross, everyone knows it
Wait we speaking about the same Elliot who did rollercoaster for ABC kids this one?
The picture in the OP makes Elliot look like a 16 year old or something. I think that's where a lot of the "this is really creepy" stuff is coming from.
I couldn't find a picture where he doesn't look 16.
I'm not saying it's weird to me. I find the age gap a bit strange, but not enough to say I am revolted or it's fucking creepy or some shit like that. It's just an oddity I don't often come across so I am surprised, but if they are happy to do it I don't see why I should care what age they are. I am kind of disgusted so many people are going "oh fucking creepy" when that's really no better than the people in the past saying gay marriage was "disgusting" on the basis they just found it icky and didn't want it around them. Except now one is wrong to label as disgusting, and the other isn't apparently.
u cant choose being gay but u can choose to get with someone 30 years younger than u.
Age is just a number dude, and when you reach a certain age you get a free bus pass. Clearly the decision to marry is a very serious one and good for them, I just feel this age gap only made it into the news because they both happen to be gay. Not digging on you it's just my two cents overall.
u cant choose being gay but u can choose to get with someone 30 years younger than u.
News to me we can choose who we fall in love with.
im physically disgusted. fry looking like a sack of potaties in human flesh doesnt help matters. (User was banned for this post ("Bigot or trolling" - SteveUK))
u cant choose being gay but u can choose to get with someone 30 years younger than u.
You could also choose to marry someone who's the same sex as you. It being a decision doesn't mean it's wrong.
Sorta like marrying your dad.
hot
Wait, does he not have kids? I could have sworn that his son was a facepuncher. It came up a couple years back on the spore thread, when no one would believe him about having early access, so he posted a picture with (iirc) Steven Fry in the background. Is his husband the facepuncher then? Please tell me someone else remembers that thread.

Only married couples could adopt children in the UK until 2002. He has an older brother and a younger sister, though, and at least one of them has kids, because he's made reference on QI to spending time with his nephews, but unless there are older nephews/nieces he hasn't mentioned, they wouldn't be old enough to post on Facepunch.
Wouldn't be old enough to post on Facepunch.
Well hold on a minute.
Well hold on a minute.
They would've been like 8 years old during the Spore thread postings being referenced.
They would've been like 8 years old during the Spore thread postings being referenced.
i was like 10 when I got my (first) facepunch account so it wouldn't be unbelieveable
i was like 10 when I got my (first) facepunch account so it wouldn't be unbelieveable
It could have been his partner at the time, Daniel Cohen (they separated in 2010). But at any rate, Fry does not have children of his own.
Money or not, it's fucking creepy.
Christ it's not like Elliott Spencer is 16 years old, he's like 30.
That 30 year age difference, wonder if money has anything to do with it.
I think it's a little strange as well, but hey it's none of my business. I wish them the best, and I hope petty things like money aren't the reason behind this marriage.
