Not a Bob Marley song, but okay...
Aw damn. First game that I used the actual Gamespy website and lobby was Operation Flashpoint.
I hope they fix the DDoS server exploit in COD4 servers if they release a patch.
I'm gonna miss those rocket launcher/detpack spamming fuckers from the battlefront games
God damn, this is pretty big.
That list of affected games is not correct; many of those do not use GameSpy tech at all.
A lot of the other games mentioned in this thread are already supported on GameRanger and some have massive communities (eg. Stronghold Crusader).
(I'm the developer of GameRanger, of course.)
AVP2 servers went down a while ago but were supported by custom patches that enabled dodgy servers. I still feel sad though, AVP2 was hands down my favorite game.
Goodbye to plinking jets out of the sky on Coldsnap in HCE I guess.
Goodbye to plinking jets out of the sky on Coldsnap in HCE I guess.
Hopefully there will be tuungle servers
well fuck I can't access Planet Fallout anymore.
wow, this is really going to suck, hell I was still playing dawn of war 1 multiplayer, damn
If game devs have any sort of respect for their old titles they should port them over to SteamWorks so that their multiplayer components can live on. Well, at least the games that already are on Steam. Goddamn EA for not even putting Medal of Honor Allied Assault on Origin. That game is still active on multiplayer and I have had so many hours of fun on it's multiplayer. ;_;
RIP Worms 3D.
Worms 4 Mayhem Online got closed like around 2012-2013 or so. And it still had plenty of players it made me so mad honestly. (And that was because Team17 didn't pay the fee, assholes)
Ultimate Mayhem is a piece of shit compared to 4 and its also empty. Fuck you team17 really.
Oh Fuck please don't take bad company 2 with you that game is amazing even if the hit register is a bit shoddy.
Rumble Fighter is also getting closed too.
This year is looking great so far....
This is a window of opportunity to re-release some of these games using Steamworks. A little work and they could just publish it on Steam, then they get a bunch of extra cash because of the new sales and they get to save their games from extinction.
That would certainly work on me.
Who played Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron online? Besides all the hackers, it was a lot of fun.
I'm going to miss it. :(
Man, RS was great
online is was pretty bad though but still
Is this gonna break the servers entirely or just stop them from showing up in server browser ?
the latter I imagine
best scenario is someone buys gamespy, someone who is stable and big
better scenario, steam buys the servers out, and all of the games have their master server set to steamworks
Shit this could be bad for MW:LL.
Sources confirmed to IGN that Rockstar Games' titles will remain unaffected, as Glu has been working with developers for approximately two years to transition their games from GameSpy to other online servers.
We've contacted multiple developers and publishers asking about contingency plans to keep their games from going offline permanently.
An Activision representative explained, "Activision won't be affected." Bohemia Interactive told IGN, "Yes, we are aware of GameSpy issue and we are very near to [finding] some suitable solution, but I cant tell you more details at the moment."
In a forum post, Bohemia explained further: "This is going to affect multiplayer in our games that use Gamespy for matchmaking, cd keys authentification and NAT traversal from Arma: Resistance to Arma 3. We are planning to introduce an alternative solution using Steam to Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead and Arma 3 users. Other games (Take On Helicopters, Arma 2, Arma 2: Free, Arma, Arma: Cold War Assault) will have more limited multiplayer experience with loss of server browser, cd key authentification and NAT traversal systems. That said, direct IP connection to servers should work even after Gamespy services are no longer available."

SEGA, Volition, Rockstar Games, and Namco Bandai began investigating the issue on each of their ends.
EA, Ubisoft, and Capcom did not respond to our requests for comments. Gearbox pointed us to 2K Games, which declined to say anything. We will update this article with any additional information we receive.
$5 says that EA and Capcom won't do shit
This reminds me, is punkbuster still a thing?
Halo CE community is developing their own server browser alternative
Where did you hear this? I can't find any info about this, only unbased speculation that opensauce is being/should be upgraded to include a server browser.
Now what about SWBF2
List of games affected:
I'm most sad about Battlefield 2 closing down and it's associated mods, including Project Reality and Forgotten Hope 2. There are still so many people playing every day.
I wouldn't worry so much, if my understanding is correct join by IP will still work, the server browser simply won't show any servers. And that's if no one (EA or modders) does anything, which with the still somewhat large community BF2 has I honestly don't see happening.
Rip in piece. The only experience I had with it was Borderlands and it was so bad me and all my friends had to use Gameranger.
NOOOOO MY HALO DEMO / CE
NOOOOO MY HALO DEMO / CE
People play Halo Demo seriously? CE is cool, I'm sure people will set up tuungle servers, there's still a very active community
Bye bye Battlefield 1942 ;_;
Now what about SWBF2
Christ that game was awesome.
That sucks, I was literally playing Halo CE like 4 days ago on a regular basis, sad to see not being able to play on Hugeass.
Things like this and GFWL shutting down are worry. Especially for future gaming, means now games or online gameplay have a shelf life.
An Activision representative explained, "Activision won't be affected."
Thank fuck for that. That makes me feel better about Jedi Academy. I don't care how empty the servers are nowadays, seeing that game die would hit me right in the childhood.
Halo CE still worries me, though. I hope the community quits bickering about cryengine 3 for a second, and manages to find a way out of this.
