it's not impossible
Please stop using Titanfall as an example of a good source game, it's like comparing the IW engine to the original Quake engine. The fact Black Mesa (and the majority of HL mods) take an extremely long time to come out is telling of source's age. Yes, it's a great classic engine, but it was outdated very quickly and the fact it's still around is staggering. I have nothing but mounds of kudos to the black mesa team for dedicating so much love to this project.
They added Zombie Marines in a recent update.
They did what? Didn't they say they weren't going to have zombie marines since it was only in Opposing Force? Still awesome that they added that. That would be great for modding. Speaking of modding, has anyone ever been able to get the new props for the steam release to work in gmod? (I have both already)
Black Mesa has always been that token mod thats a perfect example of perseverance and dedication to your project. During HL2s modding height I saw so many good looking single player mods simply drop off the map and die after 6 months to a year after releases of updates and content preview. When Black Mesa was announced, half of me didn't even want to bother following it because I didn't want to have that huge of a letdown, HL1 was a core game for me growing up and I wanted to see it get the respect and attention it deserved. I'm actually very glad, and excited that they've chosen not to reveal Xen until near release. It gives me something to look forward to and contemplate on. The size of the maps look insane, but I'm confident the team can deliver.
Tbh hl with a physics engine is all they need for me to shell out some dough for it, being able to throw explosive barrels and move boxes without going warp nine is an enormous improvement
They did what? Didn't they say they weren't going to have zombie marines since it was only in Opposing Force?
They're just clones of the Security Guard zombies, even have the same damage and defense configs.
They did what? Didn't they say they weren't going to have zombie marines since it was only in Opposing Force
Security Zombies were only in Opposing Force too. Personally I'm glad they added more variety.
Was JUST about to post this. Been following Black Mesa since early 2006, I can't fucking wait to play the finished version. The amount of effort put into this game is astounding.
honestly this should have been something valve should have done years ago. hl2 was a weird different direction to go, black mesa really does bring HL back to where it should have been, and you can see where they could go from there to more facilities
It's not about whether they're trustworthy or not (depending on who you ask) but the fact that you're putting down money for something that's coming out way down the line. It's the same thing with preordering games. If you're okay with that then go right ahead, that's your prerogative and your money but it shouldn't be very difficult to figure out why some consumers prefer to dish out the cash when they can actually see the final product.
Early access can be similar to preordering in some aspects but not all. I think that buying an Early Access game is sometimes alright. If you see an early access game and say "This game isn't that good now but once they finish it it will be fine," and buy it then that's kinda stupid in my opinion. If you see an early access game and go "Well, what I see available for sale right now appears worth the asking price, regardless of any future content," then that's a bit different I think; You're not buying the promise of a game, you're only buying what you see available in front of you at the moment and are okay with that purchase. No real problems there. This is what I did for Tabletop Simulator and Black Mesa, because the released product was already worth the asking price and I got my money's worth. Any future updates are just icing at that point.
