I agree. If religions don't want gays getting married, it's their thing, so we shouldn't stop them. But since marriage is part of laws and government, it makes no sense legally to not let gays get married. Either make it a legal thing and treat everyone equal under the law, or make it religious and have no part in government.

From what I've read, gay marriage isn't legal yet, but most of the legal benefits from being married are still avaliable, it's just called a defacto relationship

Yeah, Liberal party are aganist Gay marriage and Labor party had a vote within their party about same-sex marriage and they say no. It will take a long time for same-sex marriage to be legal in Australia.

For the most part people and politicians like getting mad at gay marriage becuase it allows them to ignore the real problems with their country.
