The model of helicopter Colin McRae owned was described as "the Ferrari of the sky". Edit: It's odd that quite a number of professional racing drivers died in aircraft accidents.
regardless of whether you're flying a ka50 or a 'ferrari of the sky' or an rc helicopter, helicopters by nature are very unstable platforms when compared to fixed-wing aircraft and cars. they are complex and difficult to grasp. the kind of mistakes you can afford to make in a car or even a fixed-wing aircraft don't apply in a helicopter so it doesn't surprise me he was an idiot and killed himself

I can agree he did some things wrong to cause the crash though. Upon reading into the crash further, the general reason the crash occured was flying too low in a valley that is a bit difficult to fly in. McRae was apparently a somewhat good pilot, but apparently due to not really knowing that area, he just went into it assuming he would be good
i dunno i'd say flying low in a wooded valley and crashing an aircraft that has no faults with it prior to impacting with the ground when your child and your mate and his child are on board is pretty idiotic
it was a bad judgment call, no reason to call him an idiot for one that cost him his life.

I would have no problem with cutting frozen chicken breasts into strips then.
Big rally fan and McRae fan here. Was really hoping for atleast an HD remake for newer consoles. At the least, wouldve been nice to get it on Android. Though, it does remind me that ive got to order a McRae memorial decal for my rear window. He was my favorite driver by far and what got me into rallying. Heres a picture of my car currently; [t]http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff136/fcfordlord/C360_2013-06-08-19-15-25-465ss_zps13e5433e.jpg[/t]
That's really nice! How do you even "get into" rallying?
Oh god I forgot about these games, I'm hyped now.
That's really nice! How do you even "get into" rallying?
i hear kris meeke used to do illegal open-road rallycross and rally in ireland so basically you have to be a bit mental
Well that was disapointing. I really hope we get a new Colin McRae or Richard Burns Rally game eventually for consoles and PC. There have been no good rally games in recent years, only a few good games that included a bit of rally. And the WRC games suck shit.
That's really nice! How do you even "get into" rallying?
I grew up in very northern Maine, in the US. It has many logging roads, atleast 50 miles worth in my town alone. When i was about 13, i started learning how to drive. We took the car, when it was stock, out on those roads. Eventually, i learned how to push the car to its limits. Flying around tight corners, going as fast as i could without ever crashing, etc. It takes a lot of practice to get used to how a car handles in the dirt vs on tar. To this day, i still prefer dirt. Ive only been on one set up rally so far. It was during the winter on a bunch of snowy/icy logging roads. I had a set of half bald all season tires. It was also my first time ever rallying in snow, so it was pretty interesting sliding threw the woods trying to keep up with guys using studded snow tires. Ive been wanting to get into a true rally event somewhere, but before i do, id have to save up a bunch and get extra equipment.
That's really nice! How do you even "get into" rallying?
money like all motorsport
money like all motorsport
It depends. WRC and other big events/classes cost a lot to get into, and take a lot of work on a car to get into. Small events arent too bad, if you look into rallycross thats very cheap
