Also, Limewire died as well but it wasn't very good in the first place. I like their little you-can't-get-this-anymore message:

UPLOADING AND DOWNLOADING COPYRIGHTED WORKS IS ILLEGAL and is exactly what this program did but it was ok before we lost a legal battle and now it's not so stop doing it guise jeeeeeeeez
This is news why?
Well actually no. When you buy from Itunes apple does get a portion of the sales, as do the producers, album cover artists, the people who made the music, and just about anyone involved. So even though a song is only around $1 - $2 and they dont make much off of one sale, its all about many people buying the song.
The idea that downloading a song free is perfectly ok because they have tons of money is complete idiocy of the highest caliber.
Wait, I thought that only the record labeling company receives the money. And that artists only earn their money from concerts because of that.

They get probably under 5% if even that much. Pretty much all the artists money comes from touring and merchandise. That's why most people are fine with downloading music, pretty much all the money goes to the label, a little bit goes to their past label, etc
Note: these figures do not include publishing royalties (paid to composers of songs). The full spreadsheet of data does though. You can see all the numbers and sources here:http://bit.ly/DigitalRoyalty
