Initiative to ban new fossil fuel cars from 2025 in Netherlands passes lower house
We have power basically at every parking spot(for block heater) if you live in a apartment, usually costs like 10€/mo or something like that.

I read about some guy that got a tesla and asked if he can use the outlet to charge it and they didn't even want to charge him extra money because it's so little amount of extra power
Was just about to mention those. Almost all houses have an outdoor outlet for the same purpose too regardless of whether you have an actual garage. Overnight charging will be a non-issue for Scandinavia at least.
Aaaaaand that's another country crossed off my potential tourism list...did they even attempt to think of what's going to happen to the millions upon millions of ICE cars they already have? Do they plan on just foisting them to the rest of Europe? Crushing them, thus causing worse envrionmental problems?

It's a ban on the sales of new ICE vehicles, not the cars themselves, did you even read the thread title

Driving them? It's a ban on sale of new cars. You hate new cars anyway so you won't even be affected by this :v:

Probably just continue to use them as normal until they are all used up?
Just charge it overnight. What's the big problem here? The range on most of these vehicles can cover a majority of the UK from full to empty. You might have to stop for 30 minutes to charge if you went top-to-bottom, but you really should be stopping on journeys that long anyway to prevent fatigue.
So what's the problem?
Because it makes going extended distances difficult, particularly when its only got a range of like 200 miles, means you have to stop at some point and sit around for an hour while it charges. They need to speed up charging.
I believe the idea is to incentivize faster developing replacement technology, I.E force a demand.
That would only work if a enough countries were on board, if this was passed in a larger nation, especially one that manufactures automobiles it would make a lot more sense imo.
Bigger country? Perhaps. But what about all the Netherlands citizens that have fossil fuel vehicles and aren't able to find an alternative? Are they just going to skyrocket the price of fuel then? What if there's no viable alternatives (we're just recently beaking ground with the Tesla) by the time it comes around? Won't this be exploitable by EV dealers given how new they are to make the prices prohibitively expensive? What about the oil companies, they certainly won't take this sitting down.

you do realize that if you are driving that long, you would need to stop anyways for food/restroom anyways right?
Tesla already is dealing with this problem by putting super chargers in rest stops, so people will make their stops that they would need to do anyways (whether they have an electric car or not), whilst the car is charging.
also charging times are going way down lately too, like 70% charge just takes half an hour now
The amount of people who cant read that this is a ban on new sales is staggering even more so when it was stated again and again by the people in this thread.
That aside, I am glad for this though the government better promote charging stations and such, subsides for that shit and hopefully push it in the European Union. This would make us less dependent on fossil fuels in the future and that is a good thing.
There is nothing "<3" about this ban, Morgen
Then again I'm not really surprised considering this kind of thread is all you make
This is great, I look forward to the day that happens here in the US. Change needs to be forced on people. Hell people complained about the leaded/unleaded switch, people complain about anything. I can't wait to own an electric car. I'll gladly turn in my V8 F150 for an electric version. There's nothing glamorous to me about a dirty polluting, prone to failure, complicated ICE engine. The local diesel and truck guys in my area will die thinking that the cars and trucks of their youth were the superior vehicles, with character, sex appeal and "real power" but they will soon be relegated to the past.

I'm sorry that you don't consider eliminating a major source of air pollution and notable contributor to climate change a good thing? What's even the point of this post other than attacking me? You didn't bring up any counter points.
EVs have the potential to last longer, be a lot cheaper to run for people, and don't put out any pollution. Even if you could argue that the power generation was shit and put out pollution then it's still a step up because the power plants aren't in the middle of high population density areas.
Yeah EVs still need to come a bit further before we can make the switch completely but in 9 more years the technology will be at that point I think. What was the best full EV 10 years ago? Probably a shitty neighbourhood vehicle?

Now the fastest accelerating 4 door sedan on the planet (regardless of cost) is an EV. We are about to have an EV 4 door sedan that the middle class can afford that has >=200 miles of range and does 0 - 60 in 6 seconds or less. EV technology has come a long way in 10 years.

Don't forget the significant safety benefits of EVs designed like Tesla's due to the entire front being a crumple zone and no engine to come through the dash in a crash.
