Hey jackass, he's opposed to nato and the UN. No alliances = no dumb wars in syria/we don't have to listen to what corrupt politicians in Russia have to say = another win for the freedom of the internet
Yes, because Russia and China are the only other nations in the UN and net neutrality is the only important issue in international politics.
It kind of scares me. If they end up getting control over it, what else are they going to do?
The basic definition of the internet prevents anyone from having total control over it without turning his country into a totalitarian one. Total control over the internet would require total control over your citizens, because there isn't a main source that you can just shut off (like TV or radio), but millions of them.
so how big is the chance it pass you guys belive?
every five goddamn minutes
It makes me laugh that people actually think they can control the internet.
Look up the chinese firewall. IIRC in china there is a law that restricts you from going to certain sites and reading certain propaganda, and, in fact, they've implemented a huge blacklist(whitelist?) of sites. This DOES work. This IS possible. Having system like that implemented in the whole UN will allow the governments to have FULL CONTROL over information. Just imagine, having some sites removed, some replaced to suit the government's plan on creating the certain perspective in your head. 25 years later, boom, we have whole generation with their head full of propaganda shit. 40 years later nobody cares about the freedom of the information anymore. 70 years later, no-one remembers what freedom is. If this gets through, and Russian(I'm Russian, and I'm not happy with these fucking treaties) goverment will create nodes to estabilish re-routing through these filters, I predict that those re-routing systems won't last long, even if they're guarded well. Fuck your shit, I'll stake the whole fucking ministry if that's what it takes for me to have free information.
Christ, why is it that everyone wants control of the internet? At that point, it's not the internet, it's just a database of propaganda, so to speak. I predict that they'll change things so that you can't look at things that suggest your country is not better than theirs. I agree with krassell, nobody's holding me back from free information.

If governments block off popular sites, Tor would just become the standard. Every 8 year old would know what encryption software is if internet regulation passes. You see, In order to prohibit users from freely accessing the internet, you have to personally monitor every single computer on the planet. You would have to personally put a guard (because frankly, every other system can be bypassed) near every computer to check if it's not accessing blocked sites. That is impossible. In other words, in order to COMPLETELY block off sites, you either need to have no internet, or to heavily regulate EVERYTHING.
They should make their own Internet then.
All the talk about Tor being able to defeat this and so forth will not work, there will be a exit node somewhere in where the computer will have to connect to the site, so if it lies within the same nation that accepts this censor, it will still be blocked, and Tor will be useless.

Seriously?
They should make their own Internet then.
With Blackjack. And hookers.
Look up the chinese firewall.
I think it's a slightly different situation in China. Especially official positions in local areas have always been full of corruption, to the degree where corruption was the norm. Responsibility was a fickle thing since you were always free to blame those below you, until it reaches the common folk. Very strict/oppressive and guiding government. It all collapsed during the Opium wars where "the West" essentially forced open China's harbors. China was quickly paralyzed and crippled by the now drug and in their quest for guidance and stability people sought religious extremists (and later accepted a helping hand from Russia). They wanted stability and integrity back, and although called "the people's nations", they got it back. And in the core beliefs and social rites there's still some sinocentric belief left that makes them seek some isolation or at the very least independence from the west. The newer generations that don't follow the traditions are more inclined to reach out to the west that supplies them with the latest tech (kinda like in Japan technophiles are clashing with traditions), but some stuff is simply passed on from parents to child. Mindsets aren't just replaced over the course of a couple of generations. Americans still very much love the tools with which they won their independence they're so proud of. TL;DR Europe had the French revolution and its aftershocks, America its independence war from the British Empire, China's harbors were dateraped by "the West" until everyone drowned in Opium and wished for a return of the strong guiding hand.
I smell anonymous cooking up more ddos attacks, now aiming at the UN
"Human" rights my ass. - china & russia
I'd love to know how the aid money to Pakistan helps the people rather than terrorists.
What about the money and aid in Libya?
What a fucking joke.
We must destroy this fascism now, raise up ear-shattering vocal public outcry that will ensure they never pull this shit again.
Uncanny.
Holy jesus... Wow UN, there really isnt anything better for you to take care of is there?
Holy jesus... Wow UN, there really isnt anything better for you to take care of is there?
Are you people seriously this dense?
What about the money and aid in Libya?
Well how do you know where that money is really going? Who said it's up to the US to provide aid? These countries need to start supporting themselves. Western Countries are pumping money into these countries and they're still shit holes. A different solution is needed.
The Illuminati exists. Except instead of 5 people there are 5 countries that control everything that goes on in the world. Mainly 1 though.
What the flying fuck. I swear, some days I really just feel like I want to start a riot or something dumb like that.
the UN wants to do this and Anonymous possibly has the power to control the power-grid. any one think Anoymous is getting weapons ready to fight back? (isn't the UN based in the US?)
Of course, because what the Internet really needs is for countries like Russia and China to have a say as to what is allowed on it. fuck off
Those are the only ones I'd be glad to have a say in what IS on the internet, if you know what I mean :v:
Hey world governments, there's a little global economic depression over here, could we have some help with this? Nope, busy trying to destroy internet. Come back later.
What happened to that whole "Access to the internet is a human right" thing that happened last year UN. Did you already forget about that?
