• Scientists Want to Terraform The Sahara, The Pricetag: $2 Trillion Per Year

We should probably wait a couple decades before doing this, when we have a more stable economy. I'm for this because eventually terraforming is a technology we will need in the future to colonize other planets, might as well start practicing now on Earth. This could solve alot of population problems, what the fuck is the point of keeping a desert? It's a useless pile of sand. Also I hear there's a couple billion dollars of gold under all that sand, from way back when.

they should do it on mars [editline]10:41PM[/editline]
We should probably wait a couple decades before doing this, when we have a more stable economy.
Australia.
New plan: Deterraform Australia. Reverse Mel Gibson's aging.
New plan: Deterraform Australia. Reverse Mel Gibson's aging.
You can make Australia's environment shittier?
it's a much better idea to place solar panels, they're planning this to reduce CO2 emissions. Solar panels will reduce CO2 production because it's a 100% clean energy source

In the same vein of Solar Satellites, the only reason we aren't using Hydrogen is the cost via energy required, why not divert some Solar/Wind Farms to creating the necessary energy to produce Hydrogen?
I pray you are meaning Solar Satellites, and not the stupid hokum bullshit that is, "Giant Fucking Mirrors that block Solar Rays from the Earth."
If they reflect so much sunlight off the sahara and cool it down, I could sell some real estate there
If they reflect so much sunlight off the sahara and cool it down, I could sell some real estate there
That's a bad thing, and congrats on then getting a bunch of ice cold sand instead of blazing hot sand. You do realize how cold it gets in the Sahara at night, right? It's because Silica is bad at storing heat. Also, E = 1366/d² bitches, where d is Astronomical Units.
Geographically you'd be wasting your money trying, the hot climate will kill everything, you'd have to change something like our orbit to plant a forest on the Sahara. You would have to change our climate entirely but not on earth, axis and sun But you can go south of it Here's my say, you redirect the Nile to w/e these idiots plant
The catch: it will cost $2 trillion a year, and possibly destroy the Amazon jungle while unleashing giant swarms of locusts across Africa
Speak no more. Drop the idea. How the fuck could anyone consider this after hearing that?! Hopefully they can't, because actually having a risk like that being even a slight possibility is just BADDDDD.

I couldn't give two shits about the global warming agenda, but the idea of turning the sahara back into a rainforest is awesome*10^100
Although the bad stuff is bad, I would like to see it done just to see if it's possible. It would be a huge transformation, and would look very impressive.
Best of both worlds. how would you like to be my business partner? we could sell so much real estate there
Now you're being sarcastic, right? It's like trying to sell real estate in the worst parts of Alaska.
Sahara used to be lush with life.
Yeah, no one can argue with that, but climate has changed since then, more than pesky co2 levels. fuck do I have to dig up sources Things have changed now it would be really hard to do that now. that's all I'm trying to say
Yeah, no one can argue with that, but climate has changed since then, more than pesky co2 levels. fuck do I have to dig up sources Things have changed now it would be really hard to do that now. that's all I'm trying to say
It was actually caused by people, if I remember correctly.
Sahara used to be lush with life.
So did Saudi Arabia and the whole area in general. :ohdear: [sp]and one of the signs of the end in Islam is the desert turning into a lush green pasture. OH FUCK DONT KILL ME IM SORRY HOLY SHIT NO PUT THAT FUCKING DOWN THAT HURTS NO HEY DONT MOVE A STEP CLOSER YOU KNOW WHAT I NEVER SAID THAT I MENT SOMETHING ELSE MAKE THE PAIN GO AWAY PLEEAAAASEE NOOOOOOOOOOO[/sp]
It was actually caused by people, if I remember correctly.
Egyptians and their factories, but seriously it's been on record it's been a desert for a long time, past human record
Yeah, no one can argue with that, but climate has changed since then, more than pesky co2 levels. fuck do I have to dig up sources Things have changed now it would be really hard to do that now. that's all I'm trying to say
It's called desertification. For whatever reason, the trees died and with them gone, the soil died due to erosion. If you fixed the soil and put the trees back, it would regrow.
It's called desertification. For whatever reason, the trees died and with them gone, the soil died due to erosion. If you fixed the soil and put the trees back, it would regrow.
Easier said then done.
Easier said then done.
No shit sherlock
It's called desertification. For whatever reason, the trees died and with them gone, the soil died due to erosion. If you fixed the soil and put the trees back, it would regrow.
sure, trend of deserts along the tropic of cancer and capricorn Doesn't matter what you do the climate is now becuase of the sun and many factors Whatever you do it'd go back to being a desert, I bet all money on it no matter what humanly thing you do it's be a challange, you'd need to redirect the Nile and have a lot of human power to do it, that's my bet
Easier said then done.
2 trillion dollars a year
No shit sherlock
:smug:
As long as they don't ask the United States for cash, they should do it
Of course they will. If we don't, they'll whine. If we do and it fails, we are blamed.
2 trillion dollars a year
We could make a fleet of ORV's with that money, with enough left over to last NASA a couple hundred years at their current budget.
