Artificial price rising just so people buy shit less is imo awfully wrong. Hey we're not going to ban it so we will just increase the price so much that only rich people can buy it.
How about making food cheaper overall and leaving the choice for people to choose? I'd hate if I had to pay more for a product because government deemed it unhealthy or whatever other reason.
How about instead of rising the price, make fast foods cook higher quality food? This would rise the price BUT it would also provide a good product. I'd be ok with that.
I know there are artificial taxing on alcohol and cigs, and I personally don't really agree with them either, but that's not food and is very optional.
Yeah that's great instead of raising the price of one good in order to lower the price of another so that the country isn't two-thirds overweight let's just raise all of the prices and if you can't find food get fucked. I have no idea how the federal government can understand why there needs to be welfare but the agriculture department is so dense that they say shit like this. You get more nutrients per dollar? Are you fucking kidding me? Have these people been to a grocery store lately? We can't all eat quinoa, arugula, almonds, and fish oil supplements.
Oh please, overweight is the new sexy.
It only proves that people are of high class and can afford their food. Like in the old times :v: Or not?
I tried planning a diet around food like this, but I was stupid about it and bought readymades that cost way more than they deserve to.
Fast food isn't the only thing guilty of being overpriced. All the branded "health food" and organic food at groceries are even more expensive. Unless you can get the ingredients yourself, every kind of food will be more expensive. It's just cheaper to make things yourself.
So of course making a home cooked meal with grains and salad is going to be cheaper than a whopper, but it also requires adequate cooking skills which, as others have noted, most people don't seem to posses. Myself included.
Yeah I worked out if I bought a whole chicken, 4 lemons, 4 cloves of garlic and a bag of salad it would only cost me £7.12: make a garlic and lemon chicken in the oven and serve with a side of salad and make a little dressing with some of the chicken fat and lemon and olive oil (everyone has olive oil in their house).
And to be fair I could take out 2 lemons and 2 garlic cloves and add a bunch some pita bread (28p for a packet of 8 son) and buy some butter and make cheap garlic bread.
Unless the grains and salad you're talking about are plain instant oatmeal flakes and iceberg lettuce, they are definitely not cheaper than a whopper.
That was just an example, I didn't mean specifically that sandwich as a comparison. And you don't tend to buy a single serving's worth of grains and vegetables at a time. While it'd be more expensive buying a few bags of vegetables and grains compared to a single meal at a fast food restaurant, you could make several meals with it.
If it does not contain meat, you can't compare it. You could compare it to mcd salad maybe.
I started to watch Jamie Oliver's TV shows and then got a few of his cookbooks. Really made me reconsider what I eat. I actually try to get my family to buy fresh and healthy foods, I'm sort of turning my dad around but my mum is hell bent on eating frozen everything.
I cook fresh when I can and I love it, just get a great sense of accomplishment when you make something nice, knowing you made it all yourself and it is healthy compared to a store bought alternative.
I can buy a pretty big bag of salad at the super market that has escarole, frisée and radicchio.
eitherway I know what I'm going to make for the family tomorrow for only £10:
A whole garlic and lemon with rosemary roasted chicken
8 pack of pita bread (use 4 or and halve to make 8 pieces of garlic bread)
Mixed salad (feeds 3-4)
Potato salad (feeds 2-4)
Moroccan themed rice with long grain rice, lemon and peppers
That costs me £9.97 and I will have a fuck load of rice and pita bread left for cooking other meals with. The real problem people have is they're too lazy to cook, all you need to do is take 30 minuets or so out of your day to make a meal - its a life skill and isn't something that's optional, if fast food joints or ready made meals stopped then you'd be fucked.
But hey I like to indulge in junk now and then, I just wish people shared the same passion to cook as me.

Jamie is a good cook but gosh he spams olive oil everywhere, my mother bought me his recipe book on Great Britain and its got some lovely rustic dishes in it. My favorite cook is probably Marco Pierre White (Gordon Ramsay's old chef).
Vasili we get it, you can buy a chicken with veggies for 10 pounds, you're writing the same shit like third time now.
don't forget the rice and potato salad mmmm

Thanks for reminding, I almost forgot.
What Vegetables and Fruits are already really cheap!?

I'd care more about what meat is cheap

It's a really fucking good point. He can feed a family high quality food for a little over what one meal deal costs at a fast food joint.

It's not considering he lives in UK. Uk and EU fast foods cost more than "real" food. They're more luxuries than replacement for everyday food.
you can by a whole chicken for a dollar in the US, meat is super cheap in the US anyway due to its super high demand, other things like vegetables are cheap if you just look around.
healthy food is cheaper than fast food in bulk, you buy all the ingredients and eat it over the course of a month.
Yeah Jamie Oliveoil does use it a bit too much but I like his recipes for their simplicity. Love Gordon Ramsay too, his scrambled eggs are delish.

Yeah sorry that's bullshit, 1 lb. of low quality (like LOW quality, good for broths I guess) chicken is about $1.

Thats why I love being thin.
I could eat steaks and McDonalds shit for a whole week, I wouldn't gain any weight at all.
I should get checked...
Anyway, here I thought one could find a balanced diet and eat everything wanted...

Same. I eat a lot of sweets and fat food and don't gain weight. Gotta enjoy metabolism while it lasts.
depends what state/where you go but a guy here said he can buy a whole chicken for $0.89 or a cooked one for $1.29

your body is probably incredibly unfit or malnourished if that's all you eat, I'm guessing you're not very good at exercise?
My ideal meal would be:
1. Healthy
2. Cheap.
3. Wouldn't require too much effort to make.
4. Could be stored for a decently long period to be eaten as leftovers.
5. Can be cooked en masse so I can take advantage of 3 and 2. That is, I want to be able to make like a big pot of it and then just ladle out a bowl of it to eat whenever I'm hungry.
6. Somewhat tasty, but what I consider tasty is pretty broad. I love lentil soup, split pea soup, and other things, for example, even though a lot of people in this threat apparently think lentils taste bad.
What would satisfy these requirements?
I recommend you look up Jamies 30 minuet meals on youtube, they're great for people getting into cooking and looking for simple or quick recipes

Define low quality
You guys have retarded definitions like any meat being high in fat is "low quality" which I'm sorry, is fucking dumb and is a product of the low fat fad.

Actually high fat bits are quite bad for anything other than grinding up and adding to something. As a meat, if it has a lot of fat, is nearly useless.

kind of implies that your diet consists of sugar and fat.
