"The Phantom Pain" Appears to be Metal Gear Solid 5 in Disguise
To me, the main part of the trailer that linked it to MGS was the beard on the main character. And the scarring obviously. It's too much a resemblance to Big Boss to be a generic war veteran character.
Interesting trailer either way, it does seem more like some whacked out fever dream than something actually happening because of the enemies (the Volgin looking motherfucker, with fire).
Senseless, but interesting.
I think this guy just based his character on Big Boss. The only part where he looses his hand is in the end of MG1, but that was dew to Outer Heaven clasping because in MG2 he was part cyborg.
Is there a youtube link to the trailer?
metal gear whale
METAL WHALE?!
I still don't get the giant land-whale fire thing.
there's 2 references to the whale/fire beast.
for the fire, that has to do with the fear in mgs3. for the whale, it has to do with the pinocchio reference in mgs2 where you travel through arsenal gear's 'organs'
IMO metal gear solid is in its essence a very boring name, I rather have it named phantom pain, It sounds way more interesting the MGS.
Even tho I'd be stupid top change name now it a series with 5 running games.

Well your a little late Final Fantasy has like 14 games out with the same title.
But, wasn't Ground Zeroes supposed to be MGS5?
You're going to have to explain this to me.
I haven't even played a Metal Gear Solid game, I'm just intrigued by them.
Basically, Tank and Virtuous were the [del]tutorial[/del] opening sections of MGS two and three. In the case of two, basically all the trailer footage was from that section so that Kojima could pull a bait-and-switch so that the player would feel gypped that they're playing a character deliberately designed to suck.
It would fit, because Metal Gear Solid is about stealth badassery, and phantoms are both stealth and badass.
I really love MGS's marketing and shit. They know how to hype.
The moment I saw the trailer it was incredibly obvious. The Fox Engine, the guy looks pretty much exactly like Big Boss... either way, hyped for this all the same.
I never understood the MGS storyline at all, but this looks pretty cool.
Guy looks a little too scrawny to be Big Boss, and weren't those Old Snake's crawling animations from the Easy-Bake Oven part in 4?

I'll summarize for you:
Japan.
Bit late on that.
This is coming out on the current gen consoles right?
Everyone's saying that the screenies are Vita screenshots. Captured at the Vita's native res, slightly lower poly than other screenshots of the engine on modern consoles, and Konami confirmed that all their future releases will support transfarring between PS3 and Vita. Coupled with the fact that all other Metal Gear Solid games have used a number rather than a numeral, i.e. 5 instead of V, I could see it.
Cool now port MGS4 to PC and 360 please. Exclusives don't make sense anyways
