Taliban urges Obama to pull out US troops and admit defeat

It's like a really long game of Monopoly.
America has a bunch of property with hotels on them, but the Taliban manages to avoid them most of the time and get Free Parking.
Nobody wants to keep playing, but they've already gotten this far, and if one side gives up now, the other is just going to be a real dick about it.
Maybe not stay as a full on military operation, but at least keep a decent amount around for peacekeeping and training the local army.
This is what the Canadian military did. The combat mission ended in 2011 and we have a few hundred troops staying to train the ANA until 2014. And I see nobody complaining.

Well if they want training for their military then sure. However, we shouldn't police there anymore.
The situation in the Middle East is sort of like getting a rusty piece of metal stuck in your torso. Do you pull it all out in one go and bleed to death, or leave bits of it in and die of tetanus?

Except you shanked yourself with the rusty piece of metal yourselves.

it's more like if a trusted friend shanked you with it, then said "no no look it's okay I'm doing it too"
[editline]7th November[/editline]
or at least it is for every country other than America of course

Shanking yourself with a rusty piece of metal is hopefully a fad that will go away
Pull out and admit defeat? That's what she said.
Hmm, we did that in Vietnam and it didn't really hurt us too bad. We should just abandon the middle east and let them sort their own shit out.
Hmm, we did that in Vietnam and it didn't really hurt us too bad.
Really?
If I recall it was a pretty big embarrassment. One that took three decades to get over.
Stuff like this hurts america's credibility at getting involved in foreign affairs.

I think that it's good that our ego is chopped down some from time to time. We need to learn when to pick and choose our battles. The more we involve ourselves in middle eastern conflict the worse it affects us down the road. We need to stop sucking off Israel and focus on what we can do with the power of a pen rather than weapons.

Not sucking Israel's massive cock is anti-semetic.

No, I disagree. I think what hurts our credibility is getting involved in these kinds of conflicts with no clear goals and no clear plan for 'what if?', as in "what if everything goes to shit?".
We went into Vietnam under the same shady rationale(Gulf of Tonkin incident) as we went into Iraq(WMDs). That kind of action is practically doomed before it starts. Then, when things didn't go our way, we have no set plan for quick and orderly extraction.
So it's not really the bailing out part that makes us look bad, it's the going in part when we're not prepared that does.
Translates to: Ok for 10 years you've been here acting as bait to attract all the jihaids in the world, and consistently slaughtered us like lambs and we can't really keep it up much longer
I for the life of me can't understand how/when/why America did become the world police, they fought off the British from invading them for freedom and now it's gotten to the extent where their just taking a saunter into other countrys armed with guns and a foregin language to get rid of something they (And probably the rest of the world) don't deem acceptable.
The way they are doing it is causing a massive path of destruction though which is a circular logic.
C'mon, what the fuck is going on other countries; step your game up Holland.
I hate to say it, but the Taliban statement does present its argument well. It's just that the US withdrawing now would make the country practically collapse in on itself.
The taliban knows that, and probably wants it. They'd be able to easily usurp power yet again if that happened.

I'd rather be laughed at for 30 years than have more troops needlessly killed.
Strange times when the fucking Taliban speak more wisdom than most American politicians.
We need to accept that America is in no shape to be playing World Police right now. We need to get our own shit together before trying to save the world or some such nonsense.

Yea, guys! You should leave our holy beloved sacred land and focus on your own country so we can destroy ours and mass execute women for expressing free speech, and all that good stuffffffff.....

One more reason we shouldn't be so quick to stick our noses in other people's affairs.

It's double funny because they came over here and made themselves our problem, so double fuck him
The problem is, if we let things slide back to where they were, we've basically wasted thousands of soldier's lives on fuck all. I'm all for bringing troops home, but if we cast Afghanistan to the dogs by doing it too soon it seems a massive waste.

It was Teddy Roosevelt and his corollary to the Monroe doctrine, which stated that Europe should stay the fuck away from the western hemisphere. Then it grew to more of the world as we got involved with the League of Nations (which we didnt really get into but was proposed by Wilson I believe.) then the UN and Israel and Cold war stuff and Kuwait and so on and so on.

WELL, how much of a money drain is Afganistan for the US? Perhaps by pushing harder for legalization for marijuana(and some other previously untouched "enterprises" ) they cover up for it. :v:

We've been training the ANA and the Afghan police force for years now, if they can't handle their own shit, then too bad. We're wasting time, money, and lives being in that hell-hole, it's better we cut our losses now and get the hell out of there.

Not as much as you'd think. I think we've spent in Afghanistan roughly the same amount of money in 10 years as our military gets every year, if that much, or 1/30th of our yearly GDP over the 10 years
