would you rather I type hahahahah? I'm insane for disagreeing with you. Okay goodbye everyone
You're insane because you literally said that busy people should be allowed to bypass customs.
Your talking about a famous actor here, hes not going to be trudging his two little fuck pets through-out the outback wiping their asses on extinct snakes and shit are they But what do I know, I'm just a smackhead
why does being a famous actor make him somehow exempt to all the other procedures people have to go through? It's the principle of the thing, when people start flouting the rules, everybody else is going to expect the same treatment, and then everything goes to hell in a handbasket from there.
This all really boils down to "Are celebrities above the law?" Of all the dogs in the world, I'm sure Johnny Depps would be the LEAST likely to contract rabies and bring it to Australia. That being said however, there should be some sort of pre-check procedure that would allow someone to bring their dog into Australia provided it goes through all the proper checks. EDIT: Some people just love and respect their dogs man, I get that Australia probably see's them as no different than wildlife but to some people, they are family members.
It's a dog, big deal. You guys don't have dogs in Australia? I understand concerns over invasive species and stuff but it's a dog, who cares.
Australia has one of the flimsiest ecosystems in the world and can be destroyed by practically anything foreign, and that includes dogs along with the parasites and diseases they may carry. One retard thinking he can bypass the rules because he's a celebrity can lead to the ecosystem getting fucked if his dog happens to be carrying any form of fleas, ticks or diseases that could somehow end up contracted by the local fauna.

Australia is taking it way to seriously by saying they'd kill his dogs. First off if they did that there's no point since if they had invasive diseases (like what? if you say rabies, yes I'm sure Johnny Depp just brings rabies infested dogs with him) then the damage is already done. They were probably just going to stay in his apartment/house and he would walk them around the block once or twice.

Provided it goes through the quarantine procedures.
Jesus, that apology video weirds me out so much.
Might be high on something. Might just be his personality quirks coming out full swing. Might be a combination of the two. This is Johnny Depp we're talking about after all.
why people choose to be so offended by a guy not declaring his dogs is beyond me. aus makes an enormous drama about it and get even more upset when he pokes a little bit of fun at them. tragic really. if you genuinely believe this guys dogs are hazardous to australia's ecology i feel sorry for you.
It's offensive because it could have catastrophic effects. A couple diseased fleas, a parasite that's gone unnoticed, or any number of other things on that dog and it could affect Australia's entire ecology. Don't underestimate the power something so small could have. The red fire ant wasn't always in America.
That being said however, there should be some sort of pre-check procedure that would allow someone to bring their dog into Australia provided it goes through all the proper checks.
There is. http://www.agriculture.gov.au/cats-dogs
so he wanted to skip customs because he's a busier man than you or I. big fucking deal lol how is that pissing on anyone
All he had to do was declare his pets and they would be quarantined. He doesn't have to stay in the airport quarantining facility for the full 10 days as they were quarantined. He can go out and "do life" while his pets were vetted.
Australia babies their ecology insanely. Aren't there plenty of things that people could bring on them that could be transferred to the animals?
Australia babies their ecology insanely. Aren't there plenty of things that people could bring on them that could be transferred to the animals?
Possibly, but unlike animals, we bath ourselves on a regular basis. We also change clothes. But animals don't bath regularly, and even then stuff like Fleas are common and hard to get rid of. How would you lot like it if we suddenly brought a disease that could ruin an Ecosystem from Australia, to somewhere else in the world? Wouldn't be happy would we? I agree, killing his dogs is going too far, and I don't condone that. But our ecosystem is fragile, one flea with a disease that Australia doesn't have, a lot of Animals could end up dead due to it. It's like how when people go on an airplane, one person who is sick, gets everyone sick. That person usually gets screened if I am correct.
The dude probly has like 10kg of cocaine on that plane and they find the dog lmao

I only support Johnny Depp in this case because of how poorly the government handled this situation.
Okay I get that he broke the law and he shouldn't have done that and he's not exempt for being a celebrity etc. But they made him do a public apology. He did it. Is part of his punishment also being forced to give a shit? How do you "fake" a public apology, are we really going to get out our truthoscopes and throw him in jail if he doesn't really really mean it? Like, the dude should definitely have declared his dogs and all, but reporting on making light fun of the incident? Really?
Guys it's 2 dogs. If your wildlife is so fragile that 2 dogs could ruin it then I can't imagine what a bunch of tourists coughing would do.
Anthroponoses are exceedingly rare, diseases that are carried on clothing and in hair are more dangerous (See: White Nose Syndrome). Let alone, the dogs are more likely to be hosts to diseases non-pathogenic in dogs, but are deadly to native wildlife.

I'm pretty sure he was poking fun at the incredibly awkward apology video he was forced to make, what's wrong with this?
I say if they threatened to kill his dog he is fully in the right to mock the shit out of them. Fragile ecosystem or not you can't just kill someones dogs. Yeah, maybe throw them in jail for a little bit, give them a good fine, but keep the dogs quarantined and fed until said term is up.
Like, you can disagree with Australia's rules and laws all you want - still means you have to follow it
Australia babies their ecology insanely.
It's more a case of not wanting to repeat history to be honest. Cane Toads were brought in and fucked up the ecosystem. Camels came in and fucked up the ecosystem. Rabbits came in and fucked up the ecosystem. QLD had to burn down acres of orchids to prevent that weird Canker Outbreak.
It's a fucking dog like, we don't complain when you aussies bring your fucking car sized spiders back in your banana picking or whatever the fuck you export crates

Guys it's 2 dogs. No matter if you're some homeless guy who scraped enough money for an overseas trip with their dog or a millionaire who brought their dog, every dog and pet should go through the necessary checks as the law in this country states. Do some fucking research and look at what past introduced species, and diseases have done to the countries ecosystem. Ignorance of this fucking annoys me. I'm proud that our government took this as seriously as it did and didn't back down because the dickhead is a celebrity. [editline]a[/editline] I don't know how it is in USA or UK or whatever, but I remember my education emphasising wildlife conservation, aswell as the media, and people here actually give a fuck about the wildlife here. You have to remember that there are dozens, if not hundreds, if not thousands of species that exist only here, and we want to make sure that that amount of species stays here. [editline]10th May 2016[/editline] "It's just a few cane toads" "It's just a few rabbits" seriously, fuck off (User was banned for this post ("ITT" - Craptasket))
Guys it's 2 dogs. If your wildlife is so fragile that 2 dogs could ruin it then I can't imagine what a bunch of tourists coughing would do.
Our ecosystem is already fucked from Europeans bringing it non-native animals, we don't want to risk fucking it up more. If Johnny Depp can't accept that then he shouldn't come to Australia. Australia is a beautiful country full of beautiful wildlife and a lot of people are trying really hard to keep it that way
i dont get the people saying "it's just two dogs. that's not going to destroy the ecology" well of fucking course its not but the law in general exists to protect it. ignoring that law, whether it be for "just two dogs" or otherwise, is offensive.
Yeah, I still like Johnny Depp. Sure, he violated customs, but he complied with their order and got the dogs out of the country and later apologized, even if he was insincere about it. Meanwhile, he's huge on charity and loves to perform for kids in schools and hospitals; I'm not about to jump on the "fuck that asshole" train over something minor like this.
I think he never stopped acting as jack sparrow since the last movie lmao
jesus lol maybe australia should focus on things like not infringing on their citizens' right to free expression or something important [editline]12th May 2016[/editline] i'd like to think that maybe y'all would like your government to maybe afford you some basic human rights like not having a censorship agency with draconian policies, maybe after that we'll talk about dogs [editline]12th May 2016[/editline] also, this isn't news. there's no source other than the video in the OP. no article, no backstory, nothing. you don't even know if this was just a "whoops i forgot to declare my dogs" or if he intentionally tried to bring his dogs in anyway. this should be bannable even if it was posted by a mod because it's just so shitty compared to the average thread in SH

Do you realise how stupid you sound? [editline]12th May 2016[/editline] Even when it has literally nothing at all to do with it.

Like the Australian government is just one guy, and he can only do one thing at a time. He's got a button that says, "stop celebrities from flouting customs rules that are designed to protect our delicate ecosystem", and a button that says, "shut down censorship boogiemen" and he can only press one.
I seriously didn't know he was forced to do that apology video. No wonder it was so awkward and fucking creepy. He may have been in the wrong, but it's extremely shitty of Australia to try and exploit his celebrity to make that stupid video. How come no one is complaining about that shit? Do your own goddamned PSA's.
