why would you use a symbol in a password, almost no service accepts symbols.
Every single password I have has atleast 2 symbols in it.
from my experience, dota 2 managed to be even worse than BF3
Talk about comparing apples to oranges....
My SW:TOR password was Bobafett1 anyway, just a matter of time before someone guessed that.
why would you use a symbol in a password, almost no service accepts symbols.
Number of alphanumeric characters in ascii or unicode: 62.
Number of alphanumeric characters and symbols in ascii: 127
Number of alphanumeric characters and symbols in unicode: 65535
So having symbols changes the number of combinations in your password from
62^length
to
127 or 65535^length
Or, for a 5 character long password: a difference of up to 1208833588708966528576543 combinations.
It wouldn't be too bad if EA would actually change my fucking password.
I can still login with my original username/password.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think I'm better off that way :v:
they probably weren't "hacked;" the people whose accounts were compromised probably had shit passwords.
this happened to me on september 7th

[t]http://i.imgur.com/BiOVj.png[/t]
My password is 14 characters, lower and upper case letters and numbers, no words or common combinations. In theory it would take 48,000 years at 4 billion calculations per second
It took me a week (I was kinda lazy and just pissed) to figure out I had to make a new account or find a friend in order to log in and file a support ticket because god forbid I can't log in with my hacked account or make any form of contact in response to that email.
I'm not sure how they even managed to get through any of the security questions that are required in order to change any credentials. It involves the only street on the planet by a particular name, and the name of one of my mom's neighbor's dogs in the 60's
The kicker with that though is when talking with EA support to fix all of this the guy specifically asked me "What's your security question?", and when I asked him to give me the security questions so I could answer them (because hell if I can't remember which ones I'd set up back when BF2 was new), he acted like I was being suspicious but finally gave in and asked the questions. After answering them correctly (and fast, didn't have to pause and think about it), he still continued to find things to triple check. What's your birthday, what was your email before, and your birthday again? How old are you
Jesus balls
I posted the particulars in the BF3 thread when it happened but can't find it at the moment- when I finally got everything switched back, I logged on to find the guy had:
>changed the actual login username to the user of some random canadian girl on facebook
>changed their BF3 name to the guy's username
>unfriended and blocked all of my contacts in origin and on bf3
>added several other accounts (one with the same name they switched my bf3 name to) to their friends, all of whom typed in russian
>joined a group of like-named guys that was like [the guy's name] is awesome
>added a russian server to his favorites
I reported everything I could and support couldn't wrap their head around the fact that I had difinitive proof this guy is scooping up accounts
and why on earth is there no email confirmation for changing emails or any contact details god damn
Whelp, changed my passwords and remembered that I own Mirror's Edge.
Win/Win.

This exactly happened to my friend as well.
", EA has issued a statement saying they have no reason to believe Origin was hacked."
hmm
what shitty site is this anyway, never even heard of it
BF3's ingame community is better than MOBAs in general by fucking far.
And that's saying something.
As someone who doesn't play MOBAs, I can't fathom how that could possibly be true. I'm genuinely worried that it might be.
Steam wasn't destroyed as badly. It also had SteamGuard. Passwords were encrypted and salted, billing information was not leaked, either.
and it was internet cafe part of steam that was breached, not the user information.
play dota2 instead
I'd rather play BF3 than a game that has a steep as fuck learning curve, no tutorial, and is of a completely different genre
Is a battlelog account the same thing as an origin account? I bought BF3 for the PS3.
Maybe this explains why after about a month after paying 44quid for BF3 another 25 was taken from my acc for no reason.. from a origin paypal..
As someone who doesn't play MOBAs, I can't fathom how that could possibly be true. I'm genuinely worried that it might be.
You know how clans in WoW are extreme amounts of hardcore and will flip shits if you aren't the proest at managing the mosaic of skills you earn in the game?
Well that's pretty much MOBA communities.
All I own is Crysis 3 Alpha, and it runs like shit on my PC for some reason, so I don't really care, oh, and I think the alpha is over >_>
Just checked my account, looks fine.
Thank fuck i don't have any credit cards or paypal accounts linked to origin.
I'm not changing my password until they sort this out.
[editline]16th November 2012[/editline]
And if EA want proof that it's my account, i've got my BF3 hard copy.
so was origin actually hacked or is it just fearmongering on some shite site?
EA has issued a statement saying they have no reason to believe Origin was hacked
Rumors + anti-EA criclejerk = sensationalism
Thanks for the heads up, just changed it
I don't even remember my password.
Well, why am I not surprised about this.
Anyways; Since I don't play battlefield 3 anymore and because I don't really like origin, I just sent my Origin Account details to a facepunch user who wants bf 3. Have fun <3
if it's hacked and they're telling people that it isn't, that very much means that more people will be REALLY pissed at EA. Same happened with Sony.
Not saying anything atm however.

Oh, you'd be surprised.

love you bro
from my experience, dota 2 managed to be even worse than BF3
They are two completely incomparable games, what the fuck are you doing, people?
"I love my ford mustang"
"Yeah but my sandwich from subway is definitely better"
???
Seems nothing more than fearmongering, as others have said - it is most likely a couple of people throwing their toys out of the pram due to being phished.
This happened to me, I tried putting on my Crisis 3 Alpha key and saw that my password didnt work, now I can't get into my account at all.
EA support won't allow me to login, I can login to origin just fine on the temp account I made, but the origin support page won't let me login at all. Live support is always offline for me and their call charges are $2.50/minute.
What's with people using symbols in their password? Just use a longer password. I use three words as my password, which is stronger than any other password I've used.

I play WoW, and that's only the really, really competitive people. Arena teams, high-rated RBG teams and shit. And besides, the clans are usually so damn introverted. You don't get shittalked for not doing your job well (usually), you get shittalked for not doing your job at all, or in a way that is making you a hindrance to your group.
