I'm still gonna wait for windows 8.11
I hear it's gonna be 5 times better than windows 3.11
Which means it'll be inherently better than windows 8.
Even if I liked Window 8, I can't be fucked buying and/or installing a new version of Windows on all of my computers every time Microsoft decides their share prices aren't high enough. I upgrade my OS every 4-5 years. Also, I can't bothered going through the old compatibility issues "Oh that thing works with this version of Windows, but that thing isn't supported, but this thing doesn't have drivers yet, you'll have to wait and you'll have to buy a new one of those". I don't give fuck about how much money Microsoft loses.

Windows 7 was released nearly 4 years ago, so by your own definition, it'll soon be time for you anyway
Windows 7 was released nearly 4 years ago, so by your own definition, it'll soon be time for you anyway
I didn't upgrade from XP until 2011. Went from Windows 2000 Pro to XP in 2006. Yes I'm crazy.
How the devil is metro aesthetically pleasing in any way?
IMO the Metro UI looks good on phones and tablets, but not on a computer.
Coolio, I wonder how much it'll cost to upgrade from Win 8 to Win 8.1.
I heard the upgrade from 8 to 8.1 would be free but that they would start selling new computers and OEM copies of 8.1 as opposed to 8
.......so can we have the start menu back, Microsoft? Having to mod the damn OS to have a proper UI is stupid.
I don't get why everybody loves the start menu anyway. It sucked. You couldn't pin anywhere near as much stuff as you can to the start screen, all programs was some ridiculous tiny menu in a tiny space and most of the stuff on the right was useless, you pretty much only needed my computer and control panel.
I don't understand why you would want the option to boot to desktop anyway. The first thing you're going to do is just click the start button again and open a program. Maybe some people like to pin a lot of shit to the task bar but I can't stand that personally, it makes the task bar cluttered.
There are other actual problems you could be complaining about but for some reason everybody loves some shitty little menu? What the fuck?

Because it works? Because I like having a quick launch to hide my icons in so I don't clutter my desktop up with assloads of shit?
Did you ever stop to think that people might actually like the start menu/taskbar arrangement, even prefer it over their OS trying to turn their mouse-and-keyboard computer into a fucking touchscreen tablet? I've actually used 8 and I can first-hand tell you the new interface is clunky as fucking hell on a mouse. Touchscreen it'd work fine, on mouse it's complete and utter bullshit that needs to go. I'll be staying on Win7 for this generation. Skip 8 entirely. Hopefully Microsoft realizes the start menu wasn't broken after all and puts it back in for 9.

So I guess because you like Win8 nobody else is allowed to dislike it? Way to be a dumbass, bro.
"resistant to stupid change"
Fixed that for ya. change is good if it makes it better. But the metro tiles don't make anything better. They make it harder to use the OS. They're clunky, they look terrible, and they get along with a mouse-and-keyboard about as well as the US Government gets along with common sense.
The start menu 'works'. That's why it's been the standard for nearly 30 fucking years. Some things simply aren't broken, and if the start menu was broken we would have been rid of it ages ago.....sort of like Win 3.x's program manager. That shit was broken, it was removed for Win95, and not a single fuck was given.

at this point ms can't do anything to not get laughed at by nerds i guess
Maybe I'll check back in 1-2 years when the drivers are out, because as of now it's too different to work properly.
That's funny, because Windows 8 uses 7/Vista drivers.

They couldn't already when they announced that there were no "classic" mode for win 8.

interesting how people always complain about windows being bloated, and then the one time they exclude a compatibility mode for something, and release a version of windows without the bloat and trillions of compatibility hacks (rt), everyone still complains.

You're missing the point, though. The old "one OS per ~3 years" model is, well, outdated, and a smaller update once a year is a much better way to push new features to consumers. You can stay on 7 as long as you want, but you'll have to upgrade at some point.
tbh i don't think the start menu itself is that big of a problem, but they should do something about that charm stuff

If that's bloat & hacks, then Windows isn't flexible enough by nature.
THAT'S the problem they should address instead of a snazzy interfaze

well what can microsoft do if a program from 1995 that everyone uses somehow depends on some obscure feature that's actually a bug
they have to keep it because otherwise the world will break
in the end, they have a de-bloated version of windows - they have rt, which runs really fucking well on a tegra 3, which is really terrible, apparently.
and microsoft isn't one person, they can do more than one thing at a time.

Dude have you not seen me in every other win8 thread ever? I fucking hate win8. hate it. to the core.

I was posting what fans of win8 say to those who don't like it, regardless of why they don't like it.

Except RT is horrible for consumers and is really just a dead end.
Windows is going to become another DOS terminal that people keep around for their legacy software.

The new start menu is perfectly fine and even somewhat better than the Win7 incarnation, even on desktops. The charms bar is pure shit on desktops though IMO
Yeah, but there's nothing wrong with service packs.
Then think of them as service packs, but with features and something that will hopefully be a very streamlined installation.

People that like windows 8 are much like bronies, shove down everyones throats that windows 8 is better than 7 until they see results, (they wont).

umm the start menu was introduced in win95 and is pretty much unrecognizable compared to its win7 incarnation

you're a fucking idiot, neither group is like that
I've seen far more brony/win8 haters that are fucking arseholes (like you) than I have people who like those things
opinions people, fucking opinions

shitstorm on a shitstorm, genius!!
also guns and israel
I had an idea to make Windows 8 less annoying: on PCs, desktop mode only - but instead of your desktop just being a folder with a picture in the background you get the metro stuff. So basically a scrollable interactive desktop, with your taskbar/start menu/windows all still the same as in Windows 7. (Metro apps could either run in windows or "take over" the desktop)
Does anything exist that makes it like this?
It used to be called active desktop and was a terrible terrible thing. :)
People that like windows 8 are much like bronies, shove down everyones throats that windows 8 is better than 7 until they see results, (they wont).
I've actually noticed this about most people who dislike 8 to be completely honest. Most people who like it or are neutral towards it, are generally calm and don't react much. But every thread, news or anything about windows 8 seems to bring out a mass of people who decree just how awfull and terrible it is, how it must die in a ditch and similar comments. But in the end offer no reason why it's worse.
They say the metro menu is much much worse than the old start menu, but not why. They slather around how everything is broken, but never say what. They tell us how awfull it is, that the start menu is full screen, but not why. Since it's a bloody launcher that also collates various information and if someoen takes the time, can have your application icon be much more interactive.

Win8 sounds OK I guess but I see no incentive to change from Win7 so I'm sticking to that
