A lot of people here would probably argue that no one deserves this kind of treatment regardless of what they've done.
Until its your family who is being hurt or threatened by terrorism. Sorry I just feel like all these videos are nothing more then propaganda. You ever look at who is in there and why? Some really nasty evil people. They deserve everything coming there way. They aren't prisoners they are enemy combatants and therefore should be treated differently then prisoners.
as an individual who studies politics as my fuckin job i find it absolutely abhorrent that our government will take prisoners and then never provide them with a trial, and when they do, they do it in some bastardized military tribunal i understand that these individuals cannot go through the us domestic court system because it'll be severely dangerous for them in american federal prisons; the least we could do is extradite them somewhere they can be reasonably tried and placed in prison hopefully a prison where they're not subjected to rape, loud music playing 24/7, force feeding, etc. [editline]4th October 2014[/editline] also fyi to all force feeding from a legal standpoint is torture.
Its not as if they drive around Iraq and pull random people off the street and throw them in gitmo. These people are hardcore fighters. They aren't stupid either. Anyone who thinks this prison should shut down is eating right out of there hands. Lets not forget why they are there in the first place. All im saying is there are things going on that only top military commanders know about so we cant really criticize when we don't even know the entire story. Tell me, what if one of these detainees had information regarding terrorists having nuclear weapons? Would you still be opposed to "torture" ?
Its not really the torture that bothers me about gitmo, but the implications. The US government basically created a place and system that completely dehumanizes you for the sake of information gathering. It's a fate worse than death in my opinion, because you've essentially become an organic hard drive. I would go as far to say that people aren't surprised and appalled of the actions that happen at gitmo, because anyone with a basic knowledge of history knows that government sanctioned torture is a common occurrence, I'd said they're surprised and appalled by how it continues to operate when the whole world knows whats happening there.
Tell me, what if one of these detainees had information regarding terrorists having nuclear weapons? Would you still be opposed to "torture" ?
Ignoring the fact you have torture in quotation marks, how would you know that they had information before torturing them? How would you know the information they gave you is the truth? Where do you draw the line; why shouldn't we torture a businessman suspected of having information on his companies tax fraud? If they're a dangerous criminal just lock them up for life or hang them. State sanctioned torture sends the message that society thinks malicious and vindictive violence is okay, and it ruins international relationships. I'm a Statist and a Nationalist and even I'm against torture because it's effectively pointless, research shows you mostly get false positives and any example of torture working is an outlier at best, it's not worth time, resources, or face value it costs.
Clearly you know this firsthand.
I've got a lot better sources than CNN and reddit. Considering that 75% of the people in my occupation get deployed to Gitmo at some point and are actually the people who do the e feeds.

Uh you guys waterboarding isn't actually torture in fact some of them like it look I know this because I know a guy who does it and he says they don't mind it honestly you guys gitmo is great.
Until its your family who is being hurt or threatened by terrorism.
Trying to justify torture because it's personal is even worse and you're a terrible person for even thinking that makes it okay.
Why are we not sending these people to court is my question.
To monitor that we are properly doing these procedures. I've came into every single one of these threads and explained why force feeding is happening. We either let these people starve to death or make them eat, there's no other humanitarian option. Also don't say "WELL RELEASE THEM DURRRR" because the few inmates remaining there (the majority of inmates have left) are there because literally no one wants them in their country (not even their own countries) or they want to execute them.
How about your damn country gives them a trial
