Ultimately I think it's too late for EA & co to ever become gamer-oriented ever again, that is, until their share prices drop massively when (and if) people realise they're getting the same shit over and over again, and they get a CEO who's actually interested in some original IP (exactly what happened with Apple & Jobs).
Unfortunately, Consoles, as they stand, are closed systems designed to only support major titles for maximum profit. As much as they appear to support indie titles, they'd cut them all out in a second if they could.
Why? Because they're not as profitable. Every person playing Minecraft, is another person not playing one of the major titles, made by one of the 'major studios', which is kind of an issue when it comes to making maximum profit.
Minecraft, in particular, has re-playability for years, it's non-linear, and it's original. It should be obvious why that's a massive risk, when it's placed next to the likes of CoD 6 & FIFA18.
Piracy would decrease alot too. But most game developers would not notice either way because alot of companies put marketing and "graphics" above the quality of game these days.
Well then again.. Atari's E.T. You think they would learn after that.. lol
