There's not much I can say about this. I sort of knew this was coming after they first started talking about the name change. I guess this just confirms it. I hope none of the people that were responsible for this decision work in the industry again.
This is the first time I've heard of the game. gj marketing guys
First time I've heard of the game. It makes me really sad to see the personality and style in the first trailer get washed away in favour of putting all the characters in generic soldier outfits. Admittedly, the graphics were objectively better in Fuse, but they should've kept the art style Overstrike had. Incase anyone's confused, artstyle != graphics.
Box art still makes me laugh.
Overstrike could have been so more than this
Judging by the demo, the game is kinda fun, though it's very badly optimized and clunky. Not remotely worth $60.
so EA, took a game that was rather light-hearted and probably a comedy, and turned into yet another grimdark shooter for no reason :suicide: urgh, it seems like games are going through the same stupid phase comics did back in the 90s.
It HONESTLY looks like one of those random dime-a-dozen games you'd fine for 3 dollars at walmart or like 99cents used during the original Xbox generation from some no name developer in Ohio or something
I honestly had no idea it was out. Terrible marketing.
Holy hell that's what became of Overstrike? Wow. I was really looking forward to a new insomniac IP
He's a pretty well known dumb-spammer. Also Jim Stirling did a Jimquisition video on this game and related stuff if you guys are interested.
I think people hate on Jim far too much. His Jimquisition videos are fucking great.
Well, this game has been the butt of the jokes on NeoGAF for some time now. Am not surprise.
oh no the game is in the top 50 what a complete disaster?
I woulda loved to play overstrike
fucking EA how can you be this incompetent? Who's making these awful decisions?
The art change wasn't the real problem. The amount of people who would have bought it's bouncy, colorful incarnation likely wasn't vastly more than the people who would buy it's grey and gritty version. The major reason why this game didn't sell is because almost no marketing whatsoever. I didn't think it was coming out for months. I haven't seen it on TV, on the internet, in magazines, anywhere. Either this game was so bad and EA knew about it ahead of time and didn't bother investing more money to market it, or they screwed Inscomniac hard. It didn't flop because of an art change.
To be honest, I wasn't very excited for Overstrike and I'm definitely not excited for this either.
Am I the only one that's just as tired of "colorful cartoon-ish comedy shooters" as others are the "dark and edgy" shooters? With the way people demand it, eventually there will be tons of games that all seem colorful and joking. At that point, will we say "Oh boy, another colorful joking game"? People also always make the argument that story is more important than graphics, yet when a game goes with a graphics style that fits it's theme, they get mad because it's another "dark and edgy" game. It would be hard to take a game with a 'serious plot" seriously if you feel like you're running around in a cartoon world. Even then, it may just turn into a game with "dark and edgy" cartoon-ish graphics. Though this doesn't mean it would definitely be a bad game, it may just be harder to pull off. Doing a "dark and edgy" theme with a serious plot may also just come off as a joke, and people might not actually take it seriously, even if you wanted them too. It also applies on the flip side too. If there was lighthearted comedy game with "dark and edgy" graphics, the art wouldn't match the feeling of the game at all. The characters would be making comical, lighthearted jokes as there's blood smeared across their faces, while standing on a pile of corpses (at that point, I think the characters may be insane though so it may end up being a dark game anyways). This game may also just end up being taken as a joke, but not in the manner originally intended. If people were to attempt these odd combinations of art style to theme, sure it's possible to make a game with them, but there would still be people complaining anyways. "Why does such a grim game so colorful? This is wrong, it doesn't match the feeling at all!", and on the other side, "This game is deceivingly wonderful. Hidden under all of its color is a theme that will tear your heart out". In the end someone is going to complain because it's either "too similar" or "too different" or whatever other reason they come up with. I don't really care about graphics that much in a game. What I look for is decent story/plot/themes. If a developer wants to go with standard art palette for their game, go ahead, as long as you have a decent story, I don't care. If they want to go with a colorful palette, as long as the story is good, I'll still think the game is good. I may also be thinking "wow, this game is deceivingly bright", or something along those lines. I'll be honest, I probably wouldn't bother with a joking game, no matter what the graphics, because I'm already tired of the "comedy FPS" games anyways.
fucking EA how can you be this incompetent? Who's making these awful decisions?
focus groups, average consumers, suits.
Box art still makes me laugh. [t]http://media1.gameinformer.com/imagefeed/featured/insomniac/fuse/boxart/box_FUSEx360PFTeqCAN_front.jpg[/t]
ORANGE! 'Orange' tells me nothing about the game. Okay, their weapons look like they started to explode a tenth of a second ago. What does that say? Nothing. [sub]The black guy doesn't say anything either. Maybe if the characters had eyes the cover wouldn't have that problem.[/sub]
More like EA damage control, the first video is way closer to what insomniac would do imo.
EA damage control: "Shit, this game doesn't look enough like Battlefield. Let's fix that." "Now the internet doesn't like our change! We'll fix this by not advertising the game at all."
There's not much I can say about this. I hope none of the people that were responsible for this decision work in the industry again.
Sadly, it's much more likely that the people at Insomniac will get punished rather than the people who thought their quirky game about agents with crazy weapons fighting robocommunists would sell better if they made it look grey and completely serious. To be fair, the trailer in this thread for Fuse is the announcement trailer. Here's the launch trailer: It's, uh, not much better.

It's like they accidentally cropped the top of the image out and couldn't be bothered going back to fix it. I have to say though, I thought Overstrike looked incredibly uninteresting anyway. I'm impressed that FUSE is being significantly outsold by a game from 2008 though.
The Demo of this game made it seem Godawful, so I'm not surprised.
Another Ratchet and Clank game please
To be fair, the trailer in this thread for Fuse is the announcement trailer. Here's the launch trailer: It's, uh, not much better.
To try and be reasonable, the trailer doesn't seem that bad, but the concept is too complex for a half minute spot, they shouldn't have focused on the plot but the characters for that kind of thing. chemicals, weird explosions, weapon technology, ehh too much for such a short video.
Another Ratchet and Clank game please
They can't really do much after what happened after the events of A Crack in Time. They've should have made a new IP but still a PS exclusive. Going to EA was Insomniacs biggest mistake this time, if they stayed with Sony they would've had so much more marketing.
did you guys know that 12 year olds are behind the change the more you know source: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/09/28/always-independent-the-story-of-insomniac-games more specifically, this paragraph I understand IGN isn't the best source, but it's all I could find related to it.
Maybe they should've interviewed gamers that fit the ESRB rating, not children...
Yeah, well, look at it's early trailer... and then what it became... Which would you have rather played?
both are overdone CGI (does the first one even have gameplay?) with stereotypical over-masculine characters trying to appeal to insecure 14 year olds
both are overdone CGI (does the first one even have gameplay?) with stereotypical over-masculine characters trying to appeal to insecure 14 year olds
yeah but one's somewhat unique aesthetically and the other one's trying to compete in an oversaturated market filled to the brim with super real sci fi
The Overwatch video is a proof of concept video, 0 gameplay or inengine scenes. [editline]5th June 2013[/editline] Also that boxart is oddly familiar. It's almost as if we've seen something like it before hmmm.. But I guess since EA doesn't have another AAA shooter with the same art design I guess no need to worry.
