They fixed that issue with the Extended Cut.
Actually no, your EMS rating is still cut in half if you don't play multiplayer. The highest EMS you can get without any multiplayer at all is 2500 ish. That's not even enough for [sp]Synthesis, or the "shepard lives" ending.[/sp]
So? Its a legitimately good game and the endings have been dealt with. Even if you didn't like them, you would have to be a spoiled child to throw away 99% of the product you just paid for, and its multiplayer to boot.
The endings were not "dealt" with(which is why I thought asking to change them was pointless). You can never build up suspense and emotion the same way as you did on the first time around, so no amount of retconning will be anywhere near as effective as actually have a decent ending to begin with.
New Vegas + 3 has had most of it's issues fixed, and the shoddy PS3 versions can have half of the blame to the console itself.
not really. Both games are still incredibly buggy to this day. Lots of mapping issues that require use of TCL/jetpack mods to get you out of, NV still likes to eat savegames from time to time, FO3 corrupts its saves if you constantly overwrite the same one every time, both run slower and slower the farther along you get, the AI still loves to wig the fuck out...it's an inherently bad issue. I love both games to death, but it's impossible to ignore how terrible the engine is. Edit: I love how you all are rating me 'disagree'. I've put 500 hours into New Vegas and 700+ into 3. I've made mods for both, I've used mods for both, I've played through both several times. I know the engine pretty fucking well, and the engine is a buggy, broken pile of ass even with the latest official patch. You can't ignore that. If what I'm saying wasn't true the unofficial patches with changelogs thousands of entries long wouldn't exist.

I got 3200 or so without even finishing the sidequests, and I didn't even touch the multiplayer. The current requirement for the best possible ending is 3100.
modern day video gaming sucks everything about it playerbase, industry, standards [editline]a[/editline] FUCK
You cant honestly say that. there are TONS of good games that have came out lately. Skyrim, LA noire, Farcry 3, DE:HR, Dishonored to name a few big ones. Indie titles are some of my most played games and have been really innovative lately: Kerbal Space Program, Dwarf Fortress, Minecraft (it helped push the destructible terrain adventure genre) DayZ to name a few.
Fez is not a shitty game. It's just unremarkable and very overrated.
And what is [sp]Fez[/sp], I honestly never heard of it.
It's like the Academy Awards, where movies that win big are ones that you've never heard of unless you go to art houses.
So? Its a legitimately good game and the endings have been dealt with. Even if you didn't like them, you would have to be a spoiled child to throw away 99% of the product you just paid for, and its multiplayer to boot.
Choices in past games didn't matter at all, meaningless random number given for completing quests (the whole Galaxy at War system was stupid), terrible ending - even with the changes it is not as good as it should of been, repetitive fetch quests that give you a random number as a reward and little else, a complete lack of side quests compared to previous games and there were several stupid plot points (such as the whole mission on mars had a few silly things). It wasn't a good game. I haven't played Fez though but from what i've seen i have no idea how this managed to get so high scores or win anything. It's like game reviewers don't even try anymore and just give pretty much everything a high score.
Dishonored is my GOTY :(
You gotta be kidding me. Almost every title released in 2012 is more deserving of the GOTY title than this. It's.. it's not even a 'cult' title.. I honestly don't understand.
I was getting disappointed because it was probably going to be Halo Yeah I want it to be Halo now..
Dishonored is my GOTY :(
I don't think a single gaming website or magazine awarded GOTY to Dishonored and that makes me sad.
Dishonored was pretty damn amazing, let you play in anyway you wanted too
I think Xenoblade Chronicles should have won. I loved the feeling of adventure and the huge environments in which to explore.
Dishonored is my GOTY :(
A thousand times this. Even if you didn't like the game personally, then you should still want it as goty for the sake of the industry; it needs more new, original IPs like dishonored.

Dishonored deserves GOTY just for the art direction and setting, never mind all the plentiful choices, entertaining gameplay and tons of replayability
Here's my opinion on the matter: if we wanna name these little indie games as GOTY, that's fine, but then they need to be held to some of the same standards as other titles. I'm not talking about production values of course, but stuff like plot and gameplay. If a AAA title's story has plot holes or doesn't make sense (MGS2, ME3) reviewers and the community tear it apart. But when Braid's story was confusing and didn't make sense, people went crazy over it talking about how it was so intellectual and mysterious. We've gotta stop commending indie games for doing the exact same things for which we criticize larger games.
Marking down Braid for having a confusing story would be like marking down Super Mario Galaxy 2 for not having a story. MGS2 and ME3 put a HUGE emphasis on story, so getting upset over stupid plot bullshit is completely justified. In Braid, the story doesn't mean shit.
Yeah I wish Dishonored was longer but it's probably still one of the best games I've played this year.
Speaking of Dishonored getting goty: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/12/ars-technicas-2012-games-of-the-year/4/
[img_thumb]http://puu.sh/QVVH[/img_thumb]
When did Wolverine start making videogames?
Why didn't they pick dishonored, not only my personal game of the year, but the past 5, maybe even 10 years
Why didn't they pick dishonored, not only my personal game of the year, but the past 5, maybe even 10 years
Dishonered had a lot of faults, to be honest
Dishonered had a lot of faults, to be honest
Well I got it for christmas, and in the past 5 days I've experienced probably one of the best games I've ever played, I couldn't possibly see any problems with it at all apart from it being a little short
Dishonered had a lot of faults, to be honest
They didn't detract from my enjoyment of the game. I want to see more in the universe; there's tons of set-up for more material.
didn't realize there was so much hate for fez i thought it was pretty neat not goty, but pretty neat
didn't realize there was so much hate for fez i thought it was pretty neat not goty, but pretty neat
I understand it not being horrible, it took some guy for some reason 5 years to make, yeah sure its playable. But seriously, game of the year ?

I love Pixel's modest description. Also:
I haven't seen a lot of GOTY lists from other sites, but Giant Bomb put Fez at #4 on their top ten list. They named XCOM as their GOTY, though. Also IGN and GameSpot both named Journey as their GOTY, and the reaction from their users has been hilarious.
