Hold onto your butts, this is gonna get hairy - Eurogamer announces their "GOTY"

I haven't played fez, but it looks like the kind of platformer that is the opposite of what I want in a platformer. I want enemies, I want to die to jumping puzzles (a LOT), and I want the controls to be incredibly tight. Super Meat Boy was perfect. It looks like this game is just trying to be pretty and super special because it has hidden things.
There was more than just a few references to Minecraft and MLP, most of the jokes consisted of memes and most of them were already outdated memes. Using memes as a basis for jokes in a video game is pretty much the laziest and worst thing a writer can do.
Oh no not memes! its not like every joke in the game was an internet meme, they named a few challenges after old ass online jokes, and had like 3 lines of meme combat dialouge. and out of all the nods to star wars, doctor who, warhammer 40k, and many other games and movies people always choose to wet their pants over 3 crappy my little pony jokes. somebody at gearbox subscribes to an irritating but widespread fanbase? the game is ruined, burn every copy. its only a damn reference, even then they werent massive glaring billboards to mlp in the middle of levels, one was simply some idiot dev wasting his "with thanks to" slot, and another one was a really vague sentance involving a horse that people jumped on to scream ponies. it really bothers me when people dissmiss borderlands 2 as poorly written and unfunny due to a few lame memes, becuase it simply wasnt.
Fucking Fez?
Did the devs pay the judges or what?
If you find yourself missing the hilarious writing in Borderlands 2 because of a few meme references then I'd re-evaluate the way you experience games. Plus they reference everything, not just internet memes hipsters laughed at 2 years ago and now can't stand even being mentioned.

Remember kids if a game you don't think deserves to win GOTY, actually wins GOTY from someone or some organization, obviously some money changed hands!
It's not like GOTY is an entirely subjective opinion that changes from person to person.
fez owns
people who disagree: haven't played it, don't own a 360, wanted to hate it in the first place, somehow think that you need to like the developer in order to enjoy the game
Because it's totally not possible to form an opinion on something without experiencing it firsthand, right?
What is Eurogamer
One of the few good game reviewing sites.
I hope it comes to Steam eventually, it looks kinda cool. Hopefully the devs are smart eno-
Welp.
Oh, scratch that.

Fez is being ported. :v:
Shame Borderlands 2 had to shoehorn tons of shitty internet humour to try and be funny, though. The writing was definitely a LOT weaker then the first game.
the first game had what writing? It wasn't really written at all, it was lazy and sloppy. The second game had one of the best written villans and some very good written side characters with only a tad of "internet humor" that ever felt forced.

how many jokes were really based on memes to a point where that's all the joke was
please, point it out
it wasn't as numerous as people think.

Lol what writing in the first game
at most you got sort of a plot and some descriptions from people, 90% of the characters in that game didn't even have facial expressions or moving mouths
BL2 is a lot better written than the original Borderlands, and if a couple "old" jokes and references to a fanbase you're not a part of gets you that pissed I don't think you should be on the internet
Honestly, I don't like MLP at all but I didn't let it detract from me enjoying the game. When I heard that they made some references to it, the most I did was groan a bit then keep playing and loving the game.
Max Payne 3. FTL. X-Com. The Walking Dead. Borderlands 2. Far Cry 3
You didn't just but BL2 next to those other games.
The War Z for goty

Handsome Jack is one of the best villains ever, especially in that regard
You didn't just but BL2 next to those other games.
I did because it's a well written, and enjoyable game with easily over 250 hours of enjoyment for me
so yes.
Could someone explain to me exactly how Phil Fish is a pretentious douchebag?
Could someone explain to me exactly how Phil Fish is a pretentious douchebag?
He says that Japan can't make any good games after making and selling a game that directly rips off the artstyle of a Japanese game
I watched indie game movie last night and Phil Fish seemed one of the better of the bunch, but they're all pretentious hipster manbabies that think their video games are the divine creation of god. Sure Edmund and to some extent his partner were an exception but I just couldn't get over the sheer egocentric attitudes they showed throughout it.
"Look at me I made a video game its so deep and meaningful"
So first Facepunch hated review sites for always giving GOTY to AAA games who "paid the sites off". Now, a FP shits on a website because it gives GOTY to an indie game because they genuinely feel it is the best game that came out this year. You can't have it both ways, if you want sites to give you their true opinion free from any publisher pressure or whatever, you have to accept that it might not be the game you would pick, or even one you would like.
And who cares if Phil Fish is an idiot/cunt, that has no impact on whether his game is good or not.
But we don't think its the best game this year????????????

first of all, facepunch isn't some fucking hivemind that decides it doesn't like one thing or another. it's a whole shit ton of people with various opinions feeling one way or the other way
there's other reasons fez isn't a fitting GOTY for a lot of people here.

Of course it's not a hivemind, but in any community there will be a general consensus among certain opinions. Unless I'm either completely misrepresenting how people complained in previous years, or these are a different set of people, I believe my criticism remains valid.

but there isn't a major consensus when it's such a divided and opinionated thing...
so no

For being a Best Gamers review that was actually really insightful and true.

My problem is that they still tried and do the same sort of jokes they did with that TF2 video in their newer ones will trying to make serious points, and it just comes off across as not being funny enough to be Zero Punctuation but still too concerned with just taking the piss out of stuff to be taken seriously.
This brings various words to my mind, mostly words like..
Fuck.
And
Piss.
And most importantly
Suicide.
But also more constructive words, like WHY? And HOW? And how much money did they get to say that?
