It's not so much that FortressCraft is a clone of minecraft, it's the issue that it's a terrible clone of Minecraft. What makes it even worse is that the guys running it are massive asshats, and in particular their PR guy, DJ Keemstar (lol what's in a name). This man seriously needs to grow up. DJ Keemstar practicing his favorite hobby, trolling people in online shooter games. This mail exchange between him and Stepto, the director of XBox Live policy enforcement, is also solid gold. Yes, This dude has a daughter...and He brings her up in every arguement. "I SWEAR ON MY DAUGHTER'S LIFE blah blah"
Oh god, that mail is brilliant.
Probably signed something. And you generally don't win lawsuits against companies like Microsoft.
Surely courts would decide in favour of the dev, this is stealing bro.
Dat water Looks kinda better then MC to be honest...although the lack of modding ability sucks as usual...
Dat water Looks kinda better then MC to be honest...although the lack of modding ability sucks as usual...
Try it. As every indie game there's a free trial. You'll change your speech.
It is.
It is not.
The only reason he was able to ad more is because he got so much money from it.
Notch was working on Minecraft in his spare time and the game was long past being compared to Infiniminer by the time he was making money off of it. Things actually slowed down as he made more money because he started work on other projects and decided to take a holiday every other day.
Thats one of the things I can't stand about the minecraft community.
I am not a Minecraft fan nor am I a Notch fan, (it's my opinion that the game needs much more content before it can be considered worthwhile), I am merely stating what is.
They attack anything like it without realizing that minecraft also took from another game.
Most things are constructed using ideas acquired from other things, it's the changes that you make, the alterations that you perform that determines whether something is a straight clone or an improvement or a worthwhile deviation on a concept. Minecraft is a pretty vastly different game to Infiniminer, now and even then, one is a competitive game that features destruction, one is a building, crafting and survival game. FortressCraft is Minecraft Creative mode, except with less blocks and less everything. It cannot be denied.
I'm not saying minecraft isn't a great game but it was originally a infiminer clone that got enough support to keep on getting updated unlike infiminer. Even at this stage it isn't that different from infiminer but with better map generator and AI. I would say the differences between minecraft and fortress craft aren't that much bigger then minecraft and fortress craft. Especially smaller then the differences between minecraft and terraria even though everyone calls that a clone.
Terraria isn't called by everyone a clone, only by ignorants who didn't play the game. Unlike fortresscraft it actually brings a twist to the idea and does it well. Saying Fortresscraft will evolve and get away from his source is pretty much pointing a gun straight down and shoot while not looking and hope it won't touch any of your feet.
He probably signed some payment plan to where he won't get paid until later and probably gets a bigger cut or something instead, I can't imagine Microsoft not paying him, he's probably just being an asshole and trying to blow it up and make a big deal about it when he's just too stupid to realize he signed a contract.
urgh microsoft. Unsubscribing from my XBL was a complete nightmare, you wouldn't have thought a company that big would be so.. underhand about that sort of thing :/ they really have an issue with letting go of money
Yeah. I'm usually not the one to jump on the bandwagon when it comes to this stuff, but it's kinda bullshit. When I called and unsubscribed, the lady was really nice and all, but I was still really annoyed that there wasn't some built in subscription cancellation system (which I'm pretty sure there was a while ago), or a way to do it off their website. I asked the girl why they chose this method, and she said that "having it on the website was just too hard for people to figure out." That seems like a really shitty excuse.

I hope this is eventually taken off XBL. I would prefer the OFFICIAL minecraft for xbox. By 90% of your logic ITT, Garry is dumb for taking breaks. If you disagree, then you can't say that for notch.
oh god, what a terrible person to have as a PR rep. He had a Halo 3 group called F@G and all they did was troll on halo 3. What a fucking stupid idea.
Hey, you know what they say. Bad press is still press. This guy contacted news sites and told them Mojang was suing them. Within hours it was all over the net, and it stayed there for a quite a while until Notch caught wind of it and cleared it up. When people called him out on twitter, he said he didn't give a fuck, and that they sold 10.000 copies of Fortresscraft because of the press. Keemstar is a scumbag.

I feel like people that say "but Minecraft copied off Infiniminer" never actually played Infiniminer. Infiniminer was a team-based competitive game where two teams competed to mine more gold. Minecraft started as a construction game. All it took from Infiniminer was the block-based world. I'm definitely not a Notch fan in any way, I should mention. I mean, I'm sort of the opposite. It just frustrates me that anyone would have the audacity to defend Fortresscraft, a game that was so clearly created in order to capitalize on Minecraft's success without doing anything to separate itself.
Most things are constructed using ideas acquired from other things
Well that same argument could be used to defend fortress craft. I'm not saying notch is a bad guy bud after playing infiminer and (just today) playing fortress craft there really isn't that big of a difference between them and minecraft and who knows maybe with the money the fortress craft guys are making they might actually do something with it that changes it from minecraft.
and the game was long past being compared to Infiniminer by the time he was making money
No it wasn't. Beside ai and water effects it was pretty much the same. Those are also the same differences between minecraft and infiminer. [editline]19th September 2011[/editline]
Minecraft was NEVER an Infiniminer clone. I'm not saying the fortress craft people are original or that they aren't d-bags i'm just saying that minecraft also copied a similar game. The only difference is that there isn't people raging about it.
By 90% of your logic ITT, Garry is dumb for taking breaks.
Surely courts would decide in favour of the dev, this is stealing bro.
This is not goddamn stealing. They have a contract and said contract states when they get paid. It's probably quite similar to how royalties are handled. Right from the microsoft faq
How often will I get paid? Payments will occur once a quarter, as is standard for all of Microsoft's developers.
And if they haven't gotten the cash yet even though the time is over, I would strongly assume that the devs fucked up by providing bad details, not filling the PII in time and other stuff and never contacted microsoft about it. For reference http://create.msdn.com/en-US/home/faq/xbox_live_indie_games#xboxfaq047 Microsoft is essentially too large and is promoting XBLA so much that them fucking a dev over would be so much bad promotion they could almost rethink investing into the business.

So you disagree to that, thus meaning you agree to notch releasing thousands of small and buggy updates, instead of content filled updates.
No, it isn't. Its being updated. So you disagree to that, thus meaning you agree to notch releasing thousands of small and buggy updates, instead of content filled updates.
Being updated doesn't mean it isn't a full release. You would expect a developer to update a game that isn't officially finished before one that is. Again for a game making as much money as it is its updating pretty slow compared to indie games that aren't. His update speed has also slowed even if the updates are bigger. I'm thinking its because he's holding back for the official release so that could explain it.
I didn't know minecraft fanboys were this bad.
Minecraft fanboys bought this, for the most part, because they wanted to play meincraft on Xbox. I am willing to put money on it.
Exactly, by your logic Minecraft is a full release, and doesn't need updates 24/7.
No i'm not i'm saying it should be updated faster and more because it isn't fully released. I wish the bad reading rating was still here. By the way lets stop the box spamming.

And whats wrong with a developer taking his time and ironing out bugs? Become a programmer, get the stress of being famous and being begged to release release release updates constantly, add to that the bugs, and people like you, and there you have it, the delay

Its a pretty imature way of arguing and it takes away the point of argument if your just going to start out with calling the person your arguing with dumb. Notch isn't spending special time ironing out the bugs. Sure he is taking out bugs but thats not why its taking so long. He owes it to the people who bought his game to give a product as fast as he can especially since the money we gave him is whats allowing him to take vacations. Me telling him to do his job at a normal speed wouldn't be a problem if he was updating properly. Hes making millions on this so he should at least give as much attention to his game as the average indie game dev.
Bodes well for Minecraft's release on XBLA!
Bodes well for Minecraft's release on XBLA!
I bet a lot of people are going to feel angry that they bought fortress craft. I do hope though that minecraft comes out for the xbox after the full game releases so more time will be spent on actually making the game.
Man, so many shitty infiniminer clones
