I hope this is eventually taken off XBL. I would prefer the OFFICIAL minecraft for xbox. By 90% of your logic ITT, Garry is dumb for taking breaks. If you disagree, then you can't say that for notch.
Garry finished his game.
Well its a "I disagree so I think your dumb." Its a pretty imature way of arguing and it takes away the point of argument if your just going to start out with calling the person your arguing with dumb. Notch isn't spending special time ironing out the bugs. Sure he is taking out bugs but thats not why its taking so long. He owes it to the people who bought his game to give a product as fast as he can especially since the money we gave him is whats allowing him to take vacations. Me telling him to do his job at a normal speed wouldn't be a problem if he was updating properly. Hes making millions on this so he should at least give as much attention to his game as the average indie game dev.
Uh, ratings are there so you can easily get your point across. It doesn't make you any more "imature" way of arguing. --- And noo notch doesnt get rid of bugs, those bug fix patches are just the placebo effect [editline]19th September 2011[/editline]
Garry finished his game.
Then Notch finished his game. They are both receiving updates. You can consider Garry's Mod "beta" until it stops receiving updates.

People payed notch to release a game while people payed garry for a finished game. Look at any indie game and even though they get far less money they still get updated faster even though minecraft is easier to dev for. Instead of rating everything against you with box think. If you can't come up with a good argument then rating anything against you box just shows immaturity.
Then Notch finished his game. They are both receiving updates. As long as the game isn't qualified GOLD (alpha/beta/gold), it's not finished, still a beta. [editline]20th September 2011[/editline] The game will keep getting updated though, it'll just mean it has achievement a sufficient level of advancement to be considered finished (yup, we haven't seen the best of minecraft yet)
Nope, Minecraft's official "release" date is set the 11.11.11, like skyrim (incoming lawsuit).
Now that I think of it I guess it could be possible that notch is ahead of what he's planning on doing with the game and that would explain the slow updates.
Probably. We only got half of the adventure update so far(hence his blog), maybe he doesn't plan on adding much more after that one, and that would be understandable - 1.8 already made the game take a huge leap forward compared to the 1.7 which just added pistons.
Every video of this game I see is just people talking about how it is better than Minecraft. It's like unintentional nerd-baiting.
Well yea but minecraft classic came from infiminer.
Infiniminer is a competitive game! Minecraft Classic is about building. [editline]20th September 2011[/editline]
He owes it to the people who bought his game to give a product as fast as he can especially since the money we gave him is whats allowing him to take vacations. Me telling him to do his job at a normal speed wouldn't be a problem if he was updating properly.
From the minecraft website:
What You Get For Purchasing When you purchase Minecraft you do so as is, be it in the early stages of development or already fully released. Subsequent updates are only an added bonus and not a guarantee, as icing on a cake. Purchases during the development of the game are discounted and include the full game upon release. As we at Mojang strive towards releasing updates for our projects we cannot guarantee that any project will ever be completed and/or provided support for. There's always the risk of a project being discontinued at any time.
[editline]20th September 2011[/editline]
Even at this stage it isn't that different from infiminer but with better map generator and AI.

Infiniminer is a competitive game! Minecraft Classic is about building.
Again while it was originally intended to be a competitive game it became clear that building was a lot funner so the developer kept it that way. Now about notch not guarantee it still pretty much expected that he should finish the game especially since he made millions on it. Its pretty much suggested that the only reason the game wouldn't be completed is if it wasn't seeling well or they went bankrupt. But in the end it doesn't change that again for whatever reason he is updating the game slowly compared to other games and while he didn't guarantee it would be finished people are pretty much expecting it to be updated. Thats why they bought it. I mean he's making millions off of this he should at least work on it.
Again while it was originally intended to be a competitive game it became clear that building was a lot funner so the developer kept it that way.
What does this even mean? It was server owners that hosted build-focused servers, not the developer.
What does this even mean? It was server owners that hosted build-focused servers, not the developer.
That doesn't really change anything. The game was mainly played for building and the competitive part was never finished.
Seiously? The best selling indie game is a blatant copy of Minecraft?
Not exactly. Best selling game in the "Indie" section XBLA (Arcade) titles generally have made much more from an indie developer perspective. But they only let semi-good quality indie games with actual substance and marketing contracts make it on XBLA. Or smaller games by more established developers. Technically, these are indie games, but MS considers them "Arcade" titles . The actual Indie Games section on the other hand, is free reign. Most games there don't cost more than 240 points or so. A large majority of them are just quick two second timewasters or stupid shit like "HOW TO TALK TO GIRLS" So it's not surprising that a Minecraft clone is top on the Indie Games sales charts, when it costs $3 and allows people who don't have PCs with video cards to play a minecraft-like game (as you can't run minecraft worth shit on integrated).

It costs $3 and allows people who don't have PCs with video cards to rage over three bucks wasted in an abominable piece of shit that doesn't work. The list of disastrous game-breaking glitches is so long it's wonderful.

The list of disastrous game-breaking glitches is so long it's wonderful.
The game is smoothing out its problems. I've had major issues, stopped playing, and now most of them are worked out. It's still being updated. It's really not as bad as you make it out to be.
But I thought that on XBLA a dev got like... 1 free update and then every update past that you had to charge for? regardless, karma abound. He was an asshat about this to begin with. It was obvious to everyone that he looked at Minecraft and remade it in a different engine. Didn't help that he kept this shitty attitude of "Yeah, its a copy, I know, but there isn't a single thing you can do about it so go cry to your Notch-God while I roll in the money generated by his idea". Still sucks that he hasn't been paid a dime, but I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for him As for winning lawsuits against Microsoft, the reason why it just doesn't happen is because they either crush the cases that don't have any chance of winning anyway... and the cases that do... they push incredibly hard for the prosecution to settle and shut up. One case ALMOST got won... judge had ruled against microsoft and everything. but a journalist caught the judge saying something to the effect of "yeah but I didn't like Microsoft anyway" which made them scream mistrial and got the WHOLE thing overturned.
Indeed, the dude can be an asshat at times. Also take a quick look at this. http://projectorgames.net/blog/ I'll say this, He did brag about how his game was such a "Rip-Off" and laughed about it during of his PR's streams. Also loving the flame war on his twitter right now http://twitter.com/#!/Fortress_Craft
