Should just keep it all in the one thread, saves overlap.
yes losing contact with a plane that was meant to land over seven and a half hours ago is totally normal
You're entirely missing the point. It's fairly normal on a global scale for unlikely events to occur, such as this. Murder isn't a normal occurence, yet it still happens hundreds of times a day globally.

The plane that has now crashed lost contact during a thunder storm and after being warned to change course because of said weather.
In terms of a standard aircraft crash, these circumstances were 'normal'.

plane crashes arent normal
by your logic 99% of things shouldnt be reported

Maybe with all the media coverage of planes crashing companies might feel pressure to increase safety, if only as a symbolic gesture for PR. Hopefully pilots will be more careful in "risky" conditions and people will be more careful about positively identifying their targets before shooting.
I'm not saying its unusual but theres been alot of media coverage about plane crashes recently so the worlds public will be more aware to it.

In terms of how frequent they happen every year, yes it is normal and it is to be expected when you have millions of flights taking place every year.
Why continue arguing at this point? We've given you an explanation.

7 times a year isn't frequent.
7 times a year isn't frequent.
13 commercial aircraft crashes in 2012.
12 commercial aircraft crashes in 2013.
Average is once a month.
Yes it is.

I mean major crashes. There were about 5 last year.
Can we not just agree that a airplane crash is always terrible, reported or not.

Define major crash?
edit: actually fuck it i'm done there's no point arguing over semantics

There are about 10 million flights per year in the United States alone. It's not frequent.
Interestingly enough, these plane accidents have been caused not by the planes themselves but by outer reasons like a co-pilot hijacking, military strikes, weather conditions and in less common locations like Malasya, Taiwan, Africa(Niger and Kenya). It's all about preventing these things that in the end aren't caused by flying in a plane(except weather conditions but you can certainly predict and avoid those nowadays more often) but by outside interference.
I think paranoia gets the best of us, sure it might happen but it's probably not gonna and this coming from someone afraid to fly.

It's all relative. There are hundreds of millions more people who drive every day in the world. If the amount of people who took air transportation increased there would likely be a proportional increase in air accidents.
