Honestly, I think I am okay with this. Episodes 4,5 and 6 will continue to exist, and if 7,8 and 9 are bad then who cares? I have to admit, I am excited. The expanded universe is interesting.
They've stated the movie to be canon, which means they have to either skip ahead a fairly long time in the series or include the old cast. (Or replace the old cast with lookalikes and piss off fans.)
There can be an Episode 7, and it can take place immediately after the events of Return of the Jedi, and still not involve the original cast. That's because Episode 7 does not have to involve the original characters at all. That's a huge assumption fans are making, that Luke and the rest have to be a part of the new movies. For all we know, they'll just have Luke be mentioned while the movie itself takes place far far away from him. I think there's an excellent chance C-3PO and R2 will be in it. They are kid friendly comic relief that fans also like. They are in costume, so the actors' ages, or even if they are original actors, aren't so important. They are not organic, so they can 'live' as long as needed and be in all the movies without ever changing appearance.
Hardly to any extent greater than is found between Disney and Marvel. It's a little more hands on, but this analogy should suffice. Saying that all of Disney's movies are like those produced by Pixar is like saying that all of Bethesda's games are like those produced by the studio that developed New Vegas (Obsidian).
Nobody said that. But Disney is definitely more hands on with Pixar than they are with Marvel. You do realize that Disney owns Pixar right?
I hope they do either Star Wars Legacy, which has a Sith Twi'lek, or use the established lore in the EU.
I hope this means a Day of the Tentacle animated film is on the way ...pretty please?
that's lucasarts but a Monkey Island Pixar film would be absolutely glorious
Nobody said that. But Disney is definitely more hands on with Pixar than they are with Marvel. You do realize that Disney owns Pixar right?
Disney owns Marvel as well, there's no reason that after the success of the recent "Disney-Marvel" movies that any "Disney-Lucasfilms" Star Wars movie couldn't be excellent.
A movie based on KOTOR 1 & 2 would be pretty cool actually, Revan and shit. If done right that is.
no fuck that Kyle Katarn motherfucker

More than one movie means a greater time frame or at the very least a large event. It'll be difficult for them to find a way to create a new large event prior to Luke's death that doesn't involve him or Han or Leia. The three of them play a pivotal role in the Star Wars universe at the time. It would be like making a movie that takes place right after the end of World War 2, but before any Cold War stuff. They'd need to build the action back up for the new movies to be successful. I didn't think of mentioning it until just now, but are you aware of what happens in the canon after Episode VI?
Kingdom Hearts with Yoda...
This would literally be the most epic thing ever.
What....Just.... Leave star wars alone. It's dead. STAHP EET. THERE IS NO STAR WARS.

I think this could be cool. Even if the movies suck at least we can get more rides.

Over three movies, he meets important people and gets involved in important things. Episodes 7-9 can play out the exact same way. It starts with some character in Nowhereville getting dragged into a big plot. Luke and everyone else still exist in this movie, just unseen. The point is that the main plot of the next three movies can be ANYTHING, don't assume it has to be "XYZ, because that's what happened in the EU" because I bet Disney doesn't give a crap about any part of Star Wars that they don't now own.
https://twitter.com/TimOfLegend/status/263394826425339905 oh GOD
wait wait woah so do they own all these now movies please
Somehow I don't see this going well. Please god prove me wrong Disney.
wait wait woah so do they own all these now movies please
Pixar has wanted to do a Sam and Max movie for a while, the original creator is one of the lead animators at Pixar. He was responsible for Ratatouille and Brave.
I think with some of the fantastic recent reboots that we've been seeing such as The Dark Knight/TDK Rises, Spiderman, Casino Royale/Skyfall, that if done well, these movies could be spectacular. Episodes 1 to 3 were shocking, I never used to see it, but now I do.
I am cautiously optimistic. Disney subsidiaries aren't typically ruined. (ex, Pixar)
Adding any more movies to the finished saga sounds like a very bad idea though.
Technically, Steve Purcell gave the rights to S&M to Telltale, so that's probably a no-go. I'd kill for a Maniac Mansion movie, though (did Lucasarts even publish that game? I believe they did)
If you watch the documentaries that Telltale has put out, the company is pretty much Pixar's pet project, with most employees working at both companies.\ They even openly Display affection for the series within Pixar. Here is some of the desk art that was shared by Pixar:
oh boy I can't wait to see star wars characters in the next kingdom heats game. :v:
Adding any more movies to the finished saga sounds like a very bad idea though.
I thought Lucas did plenty of that except in book form? Honestly, there's not much Disney could do to Star Wars that hasn't already been done.
Let's hope they don't suck insane amounts of ass like the last three Episodes.
Adding any more movies to the finished saga sounds like a very bad idea though.
That makes it sound like you think the entire Star Wars universe is only good for one story(saga). Come on, look at real life. Even when the rebels win it doesn't solve everyone's problems. There's still turmoil and chances for people to be heroes, or villains. Sequels are also better since it's a chance to show the audience something new. The problem with prequels, which Lucas found out the hard way, is everyone already knows what's going to happen. Even before you've begun to tell your story you are restricted in what you can do AND everyone already knows the ending.
This is 13 years too late.
Well... this wasn't the type of news I was expecting to return home to. Don't know how to feel about this. Disney is capable of producing quality when they get the right people attached to a project. Could help the franchise recover really. Or send it further into the abyss.
KOTOR-era Star Wars?
KOTOR-era Star Wars?
Well seeing as it's being named Episode VII I presume they are set after the original trilogy.
