I miss old gmod.
Almost every server is shit or clogged with mods, and good servers are DDoS'ed to shit.
and I miss GMod 9 when it was new and original and every server wasn't filled with shit mods and 13 y/o doing sex poses.
I'm going to be controversial and say Wire was the death of GMod.
It heralded the start of people spending hours and hours coding a particular little thing and outright killed the spontaneous and emergent creative interaction with just messing with the physics of the source engine, and replaced it with a coding metagame that ostracized those who didn't understand it and turned entire servers from "LET'S SPEND HALF AN HOUR AND BUILD A PIRATE SHIP!" to "Let's spend 4 hours to code a specific device that will work in a very specific way and then watch it happen.
I mean remember when Spacebuild was just "slap some life support parts on and fly": now you have to spend hours wiring everything up in the most complex ways to even get a ship in the sky.
TTT is the only reason I even play gmod anymore, and even then i'll only play with a close community of friend because the community as a whole is shocking.
All wire did was open up whole new possibilities to me. Fucking around with boxes and welds can only be fun for so long... wire initially was a way for me to share my creations, but as I took more time to learn it, I saw it for it's mindblowing potential. I don't want to build wire computers, I help my friend Unit-05 build tanks, and man are they badass when we're done.
As for Spacebuild, I sort of agree, but you are exaggerating how bad it is. Still, I miss things like the old connectors, those were cool.
I think how garry has implemented a hackers.cfg, he should add a ddosers.cfg as well. That would be quite useful in solving this horrific problem.
It's not going to do shit. All a DDOSER needs is your IP. Then you just send fake data en masse and flood the server.
What I miss is join a fucking server without downloading a bunch of shit because I don't have wire. I made a lot of good friends playing gmod until all this shit starting happening.
What I miss is join a fucking server without downloading a bunch of shit because I don't have wire. I made a lot of good friends playing gmod until all this shit starting happening.
Worst part is, it doesn't download everything you need.

I didn't even know it was AusFrag until you posted this.

I remember building thruster controlled planes and helicopters in Gmod9 and the early days of 10, then wire comes along and it just killed it. It was kinda like the PHX plates, it killed creativity and it reduced it down to a set of instructions.
Also, the lack of any good gamemodes or local servers killed Gmod MP for me. Back with 9 there was FortWars servers, plain sandbox servers, etc. But now everything is either RP or Wire servers, and it's just not fun.
Same thing has happened to TF2 for me actually, when it was first launched there were lots of good plain servers, now everything is 24/7 2fort or instaspawn clan servers.
All I ever use is phx and that's it. Wire is just to complex for me to handle.
Though I wish there were other downloads for things like Advanced Duplicator 2 instead of SVN.
I don't get how people enjoy RP, most of the "serious RP" servers seemed to be filled with people walking around doing absolutely nothing because the dumbasses who run the server make it impossible to make any money.
Most of the time it just seemed to be loads of people running up the stairs on the nexus getting hit with stun batons.
RP is fantastic when you're playing with people who treat it as one big round of improvisational comedy but sadly server communities with that kind of mindset are extremely rare, if not completely extinct.

Oh good. I'm glad I'm not the only person who roleplays a comedian in "serious RP" servers, on the rare occasions I play them.
In all actuality I roleplay a mildly autistic / braindamaged person who treats everything as a joke, and is witty and clever to all involved.
It's all good and fun until an admin with bark-covered anal penetration decides he doesn't appreciate my smart-assery and I get permabanned. I generally get a good response from other players though, and get a good few laughs. :v:

I completely agree.
I very much dislike how a large majority of players can somehow enjoy something that I find completely awful and then it affects me, by lowering my choice. Some of us don't want to do terrible DarkRP, which is almost always filled with individuals who don't know what real RP is.

I started laughing when I thought about random situations people could make up in game
I havn't really played GMod multiplayer in a while, But has it really gotten this bad? So bad that DDoSing is a common thing now? This game has so much potential, and it's wasted.

It was fun for a long time, its just at its deathbed in terms of a good, fun multiplayer gameplay and community. (Usually its an overuse of mods and etc. But this time its ddos and overuse)
TTT and stuff is fun, but when its always ddos'd for absolutely no apparent reason, its not. Its a shame, really. I wish more people would continue making mods..
This shit really has been going on for ages, but it seems to have increased recently. Gmod really has gone to shit :v:
I remember back when I hosted gmod servers I used to hear about people being taken down constantly but it never happened to me. I guess I was pretty lucky considering we were near the top of the list sorted by players most of the time. Maybe it's just because I never hosted DarkRP lmao.
Eh... to many danes.
I gave up with it a long time ago because of it's complexity

My friend and I got to be friends with the host of an RP sever, so he made us police officers
When he'd leave we would arrest everyone for doing anything

One time as the mayor of a server, I called all police officers and promoted them to SWAT, made a plan to become a dictator, handcuff everyone and force them to wear city 17 jumpsuits, stuff them in apartments and throw some of them in fires, just as the SWAT started heading out to begin the operation the server crashed.
I was going to commit to learning wire to get back into gmod, but then I realized its a pain in the ass. The only fun thing to do is fuck around on darkrp.

The possibilities are endless though :v:
Zs is still updated regularly and is really fun.
What's the difference between that and the free mod zombie panic?
