In a bid to entice European gamers to put their money down on an Xbox One and pre-order the system before it launches this November, Microsoft is offering up a free copy of FIFA 14.Saying how “that’s a robust promotion” to GameSpot when asked about the difference the offer could make at Christmas, Fergal Gara, VP & Managing Director at SCE UK and Ireland, turned the tables and talked about the PlayStation 4′s success so far:
We are not seeking to accelerate our pre-orders any further, to be honest. [PS4 pre-orders] are breathtakingly high as they are right now. We do not have a pre-order problem. We will remain focused on value, and there’s lots we can do around launch to make gamers feel looked after in a PS4 world.

Getting back on point, Gara echoed DR’s thoughts on how “you can buy a PS4 plus FIFA 14 at full whack for less, as I would understand it, than a free FIFA 14 with an Xbox One. We will continue to focus on great value for the gamer. There’s loads of instances on how that’s real today, whether that be the price of the PS4, or the fantastic content proposition that goes with PlayStation Plus.”

Couldn't resist throwing in that little swipe there, could you Sony? :v:
I really have to wonder how much stock they have right now. They've already confirmed that the second shipment of PS4s will be arriving within two weeks of release; clearly they were prepared for this.
Well no surprise here.
Sony will win this, at least the launch
That image is actually pretty fitting.
Now you just gotta make the Xbox One look like a crappy Cromwell tank or something.

Nah man, it'll have Live so Cromwell will use OP gold rounds.

I fucking hate Australian pricing.

Aw how sweet.

As long as they keep PS Plus the ridiculous value that it is (even now that it's going to be required for online multiplayer), I think they're in good shape for the foreseeable future. They just announced that Killzone: Shadow Fall will make all its DLC free which is just fantastic.
I want the numbers, Microsoft said the same thing.

Well, apparently the total number of pre-orders are over one million.

In Australian dollars, we are cheaper than the UK by $54 and $21 cheaper than Europe.
We actually have the PS4 on the market for relatively cheap, taking in to consideration our wages as well.
Wages don't mean shit when our price of living is high as well.
Wages don't mean shit when our price of living is high as well.
Then it levels out, doesn't it?
Then it levels out, doesn't it?
What? I'm saying higher wages isn't an argument when the cost of living is absurdly high as well, therefore a $549 console is retarded, even more so when the Xbox One is only $50 higher, what's the logic behind that?
Hopefully they don't fizzle out tremendously like the wiiu, which iirc has amazing pre orders as well
I can't wait for the imminent shortage of consoles when I actually have the money to buy one

What are you on about? Yes our cost of living is higher but higher wages is a good argument because it balances out that higher cost of living. All it means is that the purchasing power of our dollar is lower than say the US. We spend the same proportion of our income on things that someone in the US would with their income, so we are no worse off. Fuck man, I work in a supermarket and I earn twice as much as what someone in the US would earn for the same job.
Oh yeah, and weren't the 360 and PS3 like $700-$800 on release here? I remember EB Games did a package deal for the 360 which was like $950 or something like that.

I'm thinking of preordering one, but if I do so then I won't actually receive it until 2014.
I wouldn't be surprised, considering Microsoft basically did Sony's advertising for them.
As Yahtzee put it, "It was like Microsoft walked out onto the stage of the International Don't Fuck Up Championship, and proceeded to shiv itself in the stomach 30 times while screaming 'IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!'
Then Sony came out and said 'I don't want to stab myself in the stomach; that shit hurts.' Whereupon fucking confetti exploded from the ceiling and they got handed the Sickest Burn In The Universe trophy.' "

Minimum wage (Or entry pay) in Canada is from $9.75 - $10.54 (Depending on province) with the average being $10 - $10.25
What is it in Australia?

$16 an hour if you're over 20, or if you work full-time it's $16.37 an hour. I'm only 18 so my minimum wage is $11.18.
But no, my employers have been really good with pay. At my last workplace I was getting $25 an hour (and I was only 17!) for working on a conveyor belt. I get roughly $15 an hour at my current workplace but I get guaranteed work every week, I have annual and sick leave and occasionally I'll be paid casual work rates, so around $20-$22 an hour.

To me, that sounds godly. We get $10.25 an hour in Canada, regardless of age above 18. Below 18, is student wage, and it's ~$1 less.
But then again, our cost of living is probably cheaper than Australia.

Yeah cost of living is more expensive in australia. But at the same time, a lot of young adults or people studying in college/uni usually don't have to worry much about cost of living, so I'd say in-general the "younger generation" in Australia is much better off financially than that group is in the US for example.
Also, not sure what the median salary is for jobs in Australia, it might be proportionally higher as well.

I know it's a terrible indicator, but the Big Mac Index gives a rough idea of the purchasing power of different currencies.
In Canada it costs C$5.53 to buy a Big Mac but here in Australia it costs AU$5.04. So our minimum wage is higher but with some products they are also cheaper here LOL
http://www.economist.com/content/big-mac-index
Also in Australia we are asset rich but income poor since a lot of out money is in property and super. As a result, most of our money is not really accessible like a savings account.
So we have rich old people rolling around in super and investments and not-so rich non-old people saving up so they can do the same when they get old.

That would mean a PS4 and fifa would be $670 compared to $600 with a free copy of fifa.
T_T I'd have already pre-ordered one if I had the money. Oh well, I'll probably wait till Infamous: second son comes out. See if sony doesn't launch a bundle for it.

If it's anything like the Mars Bar Indicator we have here in the UK it goes as follows.
A Mars Bar will shift it's price based on how the current state of the economy and can be used as a rough measure of the cost of living. You can then compare the change in the price of a Mars Bar to the change in the Minimum/Average wages.
What? I'm saying higher wages isn't an argument when the cost of living is absurdly high as well, therefore a $549 console is retarded, even more so when the Xbox One is only $50 higher, what's the logic behind that?
Then it levels out, doesn't it??
You have a higher cost of living, but you get paid more to compensate for that.

yes
but he isn't talking about whether the cost of living balances out with higher wages
he's talking about the pricing of the consoles and how because it balances out fine, the higher console cost is not okay
I think
