Really? So if one of your friends or whoever says hello or asks if you want to see a movie or something, they're just like "what's up homo" or "hey homo wanna go see a movie?"

To be fair, that's really not that outlandish.
I'm sure that most people find it offensive, but there are still plenty that are ok with it.
i love how everyone who expresses their own view get sniped by the next post autolabelling them a bigot and forcing them to like things that are of personal choice

do you have brain damage?
I really hope OMON wasn't part of the arrests.

Yep, that's exactly what happens.
Yep, that's exactly what happens.
Well I guess if they don't take offense to it, whatever, but that sounds incredibly retarded, just so you know.

So remind me how referring to homosexuals as "homos" and saying that gay pride parades are just done by attention whores isn't bigotry again?
So remind me how referring to homosexuals as "homos" and saying that gay pride parades are just done by attention whores isn't bigotry again?
okay, i have no problem discussing this topic, i'm okay with LGBT etc etc, thing is, a totally equal world is a fallacy in itself. something or someone is always gonna be the underdog. get it?
now, calling someone a bigot because they don't like gays or whatever, it's sort of overhanded. one likes whatever they want, and if they think that gay pride parades are attention whoring sites, some can agree, some disagree, etc. i can disagree with what you are saying, but i fully defend your right to say so and i won't attack you personally because i disagree.
peeps. quit the hate. it's getting stupid.
on the subject of gay pride parades: although i appreciate the message, it just doesn't work, not through all this time. it's good to have a merry ol' gay time with your gay friends, but i think they don't trascend back enough to make them serious, or to transmit the actual message they are supposed to transmit. i've seen some fucked up shit from LGBT parades, i don't think they have the serious tone they actually originally intended to have (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots as an example)

its like they WANT to flame

because not everyone is offended by being called a homo and some people do, in fact, find pride parades annoying because of their bragging and attention grabbing nature
personally, i dont call people homos, and i understand the necessity for gay pride parades, but hes right. just because he thinks gay pride parades are annoying does not make him a bigot. i know how much facepunch likes to shout bigot at people they disagree with, but not everyone with an opinion that differs from yours is a homophobic bigot.
Personally I view gay pride parades as silly myself, there's no need to go around going "IM GAY DEAL W/ IT".

They do when they still aren't afforded the same rights as heterosexuals.

I used to think the same, but it's sort of a way to express their "flaw" to a verily biased society as a normal thing. Cause a bunch of people still think they aren't humans. And they go killing gays, and such. (yes, people also get killed because they are black, etc, but i'm staying on topic)
[editline]31st May 2011[/editline]
also whatever that dude posted up there
They would probably be arrested if they were parading straight pride too. Nobody fucking likes parades.
I don't think there is any proof of that, I would prefer a less biased source.
good luck finding something unbiased from russian media.
They do when they still aren't afforded the same rights as heterosexuals.
why you rate disagree but no content :colbert:
i'd like a piece of your mind :unsmith:

Well, if you'd like to know, I support their right to do these parades un-attacked, because until they are afforded the rights they deserve, they have every right to drive the message home in any non-violent way they see fit. Besides, it's not like these go on outside your house every day and interupt your sleep or something. What reason do you have to dislike it?

personal choice.
(ergo someone could dislike it plain simple, like i don't like eating fish)

[sp]i'm okay with you, tuna [/sp] :3:

in addition, because that may have sounded a bit too irrefutable, i'd like to add that, unfortunately, the common norm for centuries has been gayhating, men getting locked up for liking men and such, and let's be honest, i'm the dude that says 'impossible is nothing', but changing someone's mind, position, and ideals is a tiny bit too hard. also forcing them to start liking is being a big asshole thing too.
sexual identity is something a bit too harsh for this society nowadays due to the horrid immaturity held out by the majority of society today

That's why people like these work to get it more accepted.

While I support gay pride (It's ridiculous that gay rights is actually an issue in America :what:), I really don't think that parading around in fairy costumes and pink frilly lingerie is the right way to make people take homosexuality more seriously.
It's a great way of bringing the gay population to attention, and showing that you can't just exile part of the population for being born attracted to different things, but it doesn't make me feel like it's begging to be taken more seriously.

I mean hey, good for them for not being afraid of people knowing who they are, but when I see this I don't feel like it's very demanding of maturity.

I agree, but the behavior at gay rights parades is really appalling.
I think it's great that they have awareness parades, but I really wish they could crack down on the bad element that runs around butt-naked spreading their ass-cheeks at people passing by and that kind of stuff.
You don't normally see straight people acting like that in parades, and when you do they usually get arrested for public indecency.

Two the two of you above, that's what I talked about in my big post up there. In plain words it's fucking ridicoulous.
IIRC, the protest in Moscow wasn't anything like that...

So we can't say homo but we can call things retarded? Isn't that offensive to the "mentally challenged"? It's NOT the word that is offensive it's the :siren:CONTEXT:siren:.
So what you ended up saying is that it's not okay to say a word that affects one group but its ok to say something that affects another? That's pretty retarded and gay.
IIRC, the protest in Moscow wasn't anything like that...
We are talking about parades in general not protests

hmm I wonder which of the two can marry
by the way, good job putting mentally retarded people and homosexuals on the same level. that's extremely offensive
reading into this i really don't see the problem

They wouldn't give them permits for obvious reasons, and they gave the neo-nazis permits for obvious reasons.
Here's the news that the Advocate and mainstream press are not telling you: on May 17th, there were gay pride events successfully held in over thirty Russian communities and cities, including St. Petersburg. Some were even helped out by the local police. Moscow Pride's organizer, Nikolay Alexeyev, has a history of unwillingness to collaborate with other gay activist leaders in Russia. He invited Choi and other foreign celebrities to participate on his own accord, and didn't even bother to attend the event himself. No one bothered to include this info because it doesn't make for good press. Splashy headlines are much better for the bottom line. Everybody here is so quick to jump on the bandwagon to condemn Russia as a whole for the thuggish attitude of just one of her cities.
comment i noticed in one of the articles, might need some confirming, but if its true,

Well there's a really specific reason why you won't see two straight guys kissing naked in the street
See if you can figure it out
