You non-ironically used the phrase "excuse-negro"...
I don't know what else I would call it. It's a genuine term in Dutch, and I didn't know people would get their panties in such a twist over it.
It's very difficult to discuss this subject without being called a racist. It's such a dialogue-killer.
God damn white cishets get pissy if their precious characters aren't the same demographic that they are.
Well I'm not white and would be quite opposed to them changing Parkers sexuality, race, etc
Never understood it. Superheros are literally as diverse as America, hardly see the problem.
I don't think his physical appearance is all that important tbh. Making him gay would mean replacing his love interests with dudes, which I guess is doable but really what's the point? Just come up with a new character instead of rebooting the same fucking story again.
2. Superheroes have been done so much for so many decades now that you can't come up with a new one that doesn't resemble one that already exists. For instance, if I invented a superhero who was similar to Batman but gay, what's the point? Why not just use Batman and have him be gay this time?
I just can't take this seriously when you look at how many mainstay DC characters the batman animated series created.
Characters should not be changed like this, if people want to see more heroes of different gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation then create new ones rather than preying on well defined characters.
So then why was Thor changed into a womyn, after being shown literally everywhere as a big bulky muscly man.
Do they get a shitload of Asgard surgery, cut off his dick, suck all the muscle out, and throw him on special Asgard medicine?
God damn white cishets get pissy if their precious characters aren't the same demographic that they are.
Nah it's more about the fact that it's a large departure from the original character.
That said it's different if the 'character' is a moniker, like Spider-Man, there are more than one Spider-Man.
Peter Parker should stay white and hetero, but I got no problems if a new character steps up to the plate to take on the mantle of Spider-Man, and he happens to be black or gay or what have you.
This is pretty much my thinking on every superhero unless they're doing one of those alternate-universe-is-next-to-"real"-universe things. There's no reason to change an already established character when they could just make a similar one (in terms of powers) and make a whole new character with a different race (and sexual orientation if it ever comes up) and personality in general.
Why change what everyone knows and loves when you can add more that people could love?
Who wouldn't want to watch a gay superhero that shoots white stuff at people?
The joke is this joke would work no matter the orientation as long as he's a man.
Probably because it's easier and cheaper to Shanghai an existing audience into something related than to try and create an entirely new audience.
I don't get why they change gender, skin color and etc of the existing heroes, when they can just create new unique heroes.
Are they really out of ideas for new heroes and super powers?
For me it looks like a cheap move... while racial/gender/sexuality theme is *hot*...
They don't. Like I said, they usually end up putting someone else in the suit. It's just a different way of telling the story.
actually you got banned for a calling black characters "excuse negros" but ok
anyway i agree with what cone said. people always say they have a problem with making a character a part of a minority "for the sake of progressiveness", but wouldn't creating a new hero for that sole purpose be just as bad, if not worse?
Plus Agent 007 is not one dude.
Plus Agent 007 is not one dude.
Ian Fleming's original Bond is a well defined singular character with his own heritage and background. However, a recent fan canon decided that all Bonds have existed under the same pseudonym of 'James Bond/007' in an attempt to justify all the different portrayals. It has potential and would probably be the best way to justify a black Bond or whatever; but it is in no way originally canon that James Bond is anything but the one man (after seeing Connery in the role- whom Fleming was against being cast- he liked the portrayal enough to give Bond some Scottish heritage).
all you people are arguing about the straight/white thing and i'm wondering how the hell stan lee looks so good when he's 92 years old
How about we just stop making tenth billion film about the same old done to death character and try to come up with new exciting characters who may be black, of alternate sexuality and whatever the fuck?
I'd have to agree with Stan as far as comics go, changing stuff for no reason is kinda pointless when you can just introduce a new character as easily and do whatever you want with them.
In movies though they're kinda limited to what actors they can hire, I'd much rather have the actor best at showing the character's personality than someone not as good with a closer skin tone.

It was actually a different person who mjolnir deemed worthy of wielding it, "Thor" was an alien with no lips before too.

Eh, let them roll over their own ignorance. I do agree with him, this whole "SJWzation" of superheroes is getting out of hand.
Tell that to the fucks that are making that stupid Fantastic Four movie.
It's going to be shit, I hope Marvel get's the rights to F4 back soon.

No.
Nnonononon.
Beta Ray Bill was never Thor. Never. He is worthy enough to wield Mjolnir, but he was never Thor, or known as Thor. Being worthy does not make you Thor, it just makes you worthy.

No this whole Female Thor is just too stupid for me. Black Captain America is really cool, there's a huge backstory to that, but Female Thor is just retarded. First, as pointed out previously, someone can't just become Thor.
First the hammer: You get the power of Thor it doesn't say "You be Thor".
[thumb]http://i.stack.imgur.com/lRdde.jpg[/thumb]
Second, female Thor is Dr. Jane Foster. Who gets space cancer from being Thor or something like that.

Third, female Thor sucks. She's basically trying to copy current WW, and current WW is an edgelord.

Current WW also punched a man because he was "mansplaining" while UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF THE LASSO OF TRUTH.
I basically agree. Like, I was miffed when TV's Flash had a suit that was a few shades too red. It isn't about race, it's about established character designs. I'd be upset if the Joker were tattooed, Wonder Woman weren't statuesque, and Aquaman wasn't wearing orange for the same reasons. That said, I'm incredibly unhappy with the DC Live Action Universe's portrayels of The Joker, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. Wow!
Although, if Spiderman were going to be black? Donald Glover would nail it.

This is a different case for me. Like, I'm not a Marvel guy, so maybe I am just misunderstanding things, but my perception has always been that Mjolnir essentially " made" you Thor, if it deemed you worthy. Like, "Thor" is just a name, its everything else that makes Thor Thor. So, when it says, "you will possess the power of Thor," what it means is that you won't just have Thor's powers, you'll have his POWER. The essence of everything that is Thor. The actual name is more of an honorary thing.
Current WW also punched a man because he was "mansplaining" while UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF THE LASSO OF TRUTH.
All the WW titles are below the 50k selling mark, so needless to say that the writer is shooting everywhere to see what sticks.

Like, "Thor" is just a name, its the powers and attitude and will that really define him or her. Sort of a reincarnation thing. "You possess the power of Thor," meaning not just his powers, but his power, his essence, everything that is Thor. Kind of like the Green Lanterns, I guess. If you are chosen by a power ring, you are now a Green Lantern, with the exception being that there are lots of power rings and only one Mjolnir. So, if Hal Jordan were THE Green Lantern instead of A Green Lantern, and he died, and his ring somebody else and made them the new Green Lantern, I wouldn't really give a shit what they looked like.
No, Thor GAVE his name to her. He accepted that he would never wield his hammer again and just went by Odinson.
Later, in a fight he wields the hammer of an alternate dimension Thor (named Thorr) who was fitted for the UNworthy. After the fight he tried to lift the Thorr hammer and found out that he couldn't, meaning that he was once again worthy of his hammer.
imagine if Captain America was an Arab muslim, they'd go batshit crazy
