So it's Isolationism without Protectionism? I'm alright with that.
Yeah, pretty much. I think it's the best foreign policy of any nation, and the US should re-embrace it, as it had in the early 1800s.
Yeah, pretty much. I think it's the best foreign policy of any nation, and the US should re-embrace it, as it had in the early 1800s.
The way the US handled it in the early 1800's was to cut off trade with everyone.
The way the US handled it in the early 1800's was to cut off trade with everyone.
No it didn't?
The way the US handled it in the early 1800's was to cut off trade with everyone.
i'm p sure during the 1800s they were getting their shit figured out
No it didn't?
Embargo Act of 1807
Why can't we break the rules and make Bill Clinton our president until he stops being perfect?
Why can't we break the rules and make Bill Clinton our president until he stops being perfect?
It's not that Clinton is being smart. He's just using common sense. Anyone with half a brain knows that attacking Iran would be a terrible thing to do.
As a shock it may be to all of you, I never actually have bought a book by him.
Pfffff whatever.
i'm p sure during the 1800s they were getting their shit figured out
And they only had trade relations with Europe.
And they only had trade relations with Europe.
Dont forget the slave trade. God knows you cant forget the slave trade. Equinso Ocha!
How can you have a progressive president if you're a theocracy?
Especially when you are a theocracy because you overthrew the extremely progressive constitutional monarchy and effectively put your entire society back in the stone age.
yeah, ron paul coined a phrase which is literally the prefix 'non' in front of an established word nice posting
yeah because I said he coined the term because he couldn't possibly have taken it from someone else and started using it because he liked it, which could result in Emperor learning it from him
I highly doubt he, all by himself, coined that term
jesus both of you need to go back to elementary school and learn how to read
Especially when you are a theocracy because you overthrew the extremely progressive constitutional monarchy and effectively put your entire society back in the stone age.
How was the Last Shah of Iran "extremely progressive"?
How was the Last Shah of Iran "extremely progressive"?
He wanted to be more open with the West and bring Iran into the 20th century...
He wanted to be more open with the West and bring Iran into the 20th century...
...along with a poorly planned economic program and PRC-style crackdowns on all forms of political dissent or deviation, but then it was the Cold War...
War is outdated. How can we expect to prosper as a species if the only type of predation we face is against each other? Unfortunately, this ideal "dream" is unfeasible to most audiences. Maybe one day we will evolve to a point where we as a race can realize our hypocrisy and put fighting over land and ideals aside. Little children know that killing someone is a wicked and terrible act, so why is it that our politicians can justify the murder of thousands of human lives? Just because it's war doesn't make it okay.
stop trying to sound smart. you're bad at it
care to explain
Has everyone suddenly forgotten the protests in Iran against Ahmadinejad?
Has everyone suddenly forgotten the protests in Iran against Ahmadinejad?
You mean the ones that still occasionally happen? I still get updates on my facebook page. And I would like to see us cut ourselves off, so to speak. To see what would happen to the rest of the world.
And I would like to see us cut ourselves off, so to speak. To see what would happen to the rest of the world.
I agree with this sentiment. Everybody hates the West until the aid and care packages stop showing up...then they hate the West more for abandoning them.
Everybody hates the West until the aid and care packages stop showing up...then they hate the West more for abandoning them.
no they don't do us a favor and open a book. the hate of the west has nothing to do with aid. it has to do with their imperialism.
no they don't do us a favor and open a book. the hate of the west has nothing to do with aid. it has to do with their imperialism.
Clearly my comment went over your head.
Clearly my comment went over your head.
you're an idiot (User was banned for this post ("flaming" - GunFox))
...along with a poorly planned economic program and PRC-style crackdowns on all forms of political dissent or deviation, but then it was the Cold War...
Yeah his plan was overly optimistic about the concept of a "trickle down" economy. The western world makes that mistake like DAILY. He was working incredibly hard to improve Iran both economically and in foreign relations. He pushed hard to put Iran on friendly terms with just about everyone and to adopt new ideas and concepts to better his country. They were even nice with Israel and China. He gave WOMEN THE RIGHT TO VOTE. Not only were they NOT being stoned to death after having confessions beat out of them, they were able to fucking VOTE. They were HUMAN BEINGS. Compulsory free education? HIM TOO! Oh and a huge exchange student program with western nations to improve relations. The Iranian military was basically being used as a massive unit of combat engineers to construct schools for remote villages. The whole revolt which overthrew him? Made possible entirely because his programs taught them all how to read and write. The Shah was by no means perfect, but his over-optimistic nature and affection for extreme autocracy still plant him far FAR ahead of the current government.
What? That war is over, that was pretty easily won actually. Iran on the other hand would be quite a formidable war, considering the amount of countries around it that would jump in and help them.
Their military was swept aside. The problem was the burning hatred the West got from Iraqi terrorists.
How can you have a progressive president if you're a theocracy?
this doesn't make any sense progressive meaning to advance from a previous state Iran believe or not is getting freer slowly and slowly [editline]11:16PM[/editline]
The Shah was by no means perfect, but his over-optimistic nature and affection for extreme autocracy still plant him far FAR ahead of the current government.
now nobody is arguing that the Shah regime was worse than the current government, but he wasn't picture perfect and the revolution of 1970 sought to rectify that what happened during the revolution though is contested

I wouldn't know about you, but regardless of World War II, would you call him a progressive leader considering what he did in the 1930s? I already know of the Shah's modernization programs, but I wouldn't call him extremely progressive with his heavy-handed approach to dissenters and criticism, though I do agree that the Islamic Revolution left Iran in a far worse state than what it was 31 years ago.
How can you have a progressive president if you're a theocracy?
Achemiddididjaahddddehidad is not a religious leader [editline]11:34PM[/editline]
Never knew the genocide of kurds was a progressive movement...
Iran committed genocide against kurds? uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh wot
They elected the guy twice, chances are they are pretty happy with how things are going. And attacking Iran could be the worst shit we ever do.
Are you fucking kidding me? You have to be joking. Nobody wanted him to be elected again. I can assure you that none of my relatives voted for him, along with the rest of the country. [editline]10:49PM[/editline]
Especially when you are a theocracy because you overthrew the extremely progressive constitutional monarchy and effectively put your entire society back in the stone age.
My dad contributed to that. :v: [editline]10:49PM[/editline] (It's not like he knew who would take the monarch's place.)
Bill Clinton was a awesome President, but he's still a massive dick for bombing Yugoslavia over some supposed operation made up by the German Government despite the fact that the Croats did just as bad things to the Serbs as they did to the Albanian Insurrectionist Also where was Clinton when their supporters during the Kosovo War, Macedonia, nearly had a Civil War in 2001 due to the Albanian Insurrectionist which they still bitch about today since Serbia refused to give them Military Aid for Free despite allowing NATO troops to mass on the Serbia-Macedonia Border just a year before
stop trying to sound smart. you're bad at it
What do mean when you say, "stop trying to sound smart"? Why don't you stop trying to sound cool on an Internet forum by being a complete asshole. My original comment is just common logic that any normal human being has. If you think my comment is me trying to sound "smart", then you must have missed the point. (which is basically, children know murdering is horrific, so why don't grown men.) again, that's sounding smart? That's common sense for christ's sake.
