Canada (at least the last time I checked) has the same sort of philosophy towards prison.
Our large prisons are just as bad as American ones.
This is cool, for the minor crime-doers, murderers and such (mind you, it's a touchy subject here, it depends on how bad the murder was, or if it was premeditated or not) do not deserve any of this shit, but I guess it IS better than making them worse by putting them in a shitty prison.
Scandinavia is the best part of the world, I'd like to move there some day. And this news just Swedens the deal
I wouldn't be surprised if homeless people purposely commit crimes there.
I wouldn't be surprised if homeless people purposely commit crimes there.
Norway doesn't have homeless people, everything is perfect there.
Our large prisons are just as bad as American ones.
In terms of living environments, yes. But prisoners are much more closely monitored, and there is little to no tolerance for rape, beatings, etc. Not as much of a free for all. I think they use this for petty criminals, and one time murderers.
Scandinavia is the best part of the world, I'd like to move there some day. And this news just Swedens the deal
Welcome to the club :P I understand the logic behind this prison, and I think they're doing an excellent job. [editline]03:26AM[/editline] If (and that's one big IF) I ever get there, I'm burning down a church so I can go to jail
and that's why you give them the skills to have a better life 'on the outside.' glad i could help you understand reasoning a three year old can handle
Why don't you read A Clockwork Orange and tell me that criminals are rationally-minded people that understand the consequences of their actions
Things like this are why I'm proud to be Norwegian.
If (and that's one big IF) I ever get there, I'm burning down a church so I can go to jail
But Varg is out now, so prison won't be as fun. I'd love to ask him the same questions over and over and watch how the answers change each time
But Varg is out now, so prison won't be as fun. I'd love to ask him the same questions over and over and watch how the answers change each time
Crap, you're right... it's been 21 years already?? (he had been sentenced to 21 years, right?)
So is it like really easy to smuggle drugs in
Crap, you're right... it's been 21 years already?? (he had been sentenced to 21 years, right?)
Yeah, I think he moved to his parent's old farm or something.
If I ran a country, the prisons would be horrible as fuck to prevent anyone from committing crimes worthy of them.
Why don't you read A Clockwork Orange and tell me that criminals are rationally-minded people that understand the consequences of their actions
how about you never post again if you think this is a real argument. fucking seriously? is this a joke or what? and for the record, i never said what you're accusing me of. reading comprehension is pretty great
how about you never post again if you think this is a real argument. fucking seriously? is this a joke or what?
"my opinion is superior to yours and yours is bad and you should feel bad"
"my opinion is superior to yours and yours is bad and you should feel bad"
well your post had nothing to do with what i was saying so i don't know what you were expecting further more, what opinion? i'm just saying that's the shittiest excuse for an argument i've had the misfortune to see in a long time [editline]07:31AM[/editline] you should feel bad though no lie
Give 'em the chair... Massage chair.
The point of prison time is re-education, not punishment. [editline]07:39AM[/editline]
Within two years of their release, 20% of Norway's prisoners end up back in jail. In the U.K. and the U.S., the figure hovers between 50% and 60%. Of course, a low level of criminality gives Norway a massive advantage. Its prison roll lists a mere 3,300, or 69 per 100,000 people, compared with 2.3 million in the U.S., or 753 per 100,000 — the highest rate in the world.
Uhh, what?
well your post had nothing to do with what i was saying so i don't know what you were expecting further more, what opinion? i'm just saying that's the shittiest excuse for an argument i've had the misfortune to see in a long time [editline]07:31AM[/editline] you should feel bad though no lie
I was basically arguing against the points you've brought up in multiple posts that's kind of an opinion, bro k
I spent the weekend in a jail before, they're not bad. Since they're usually in the police station so you can occupy your time listening to the cops work.
Or the pleasant screams of another arrested person who won't shut up at 2am. These prisons seem like a good idea to me, the punishment system we have currently just breeds harder criminals.
Why don't you read A Clockwork Orange and tell me that criminals are rationally-minded people that understand the consequences of their actions
Okay kids, today in class we learn the difference between fiction and non-fiction :eng101:
Halden, Norway's second largest prison, with a capacity of 252 inmates.
Well there's your problem. As of 2008, America had 7,308,200 people entangled in its legal system. If we wanted to make a nice resort for that many criminals we'd have to buy Mexico or something.
When it comes down to it, every single problem the US has can be linked back to "There's way too many Americans"
I was basically arguing against the points you've brought up in multiple posts that's kind of an opinion, bro k
cool, how about you actually quote a post with these non-existent posts rather than a completely irrelevant one posting 101 now in session [editline]08:05AM[/editline]
Okay kids, today in class we learn the difference between fiction and non-fiction :eng101:
what?! you mean a fictional book isn't the best evidence for viewing criminals as a single minded hive mind?! but then i might have to actually speak to them, and that's gross!
Okay kids, today in class we learn the difference between fiction and non-fiction :eng101:
The book is a good example in the sense that it demonstrates the complexities of the demented mind of deranged criminals. Perhaps you should learn about the valuable application of fiction in real life - there's a reason that fictional books are required in the educational curriculum. You should also learn to not merely take things at face value.
The book is a good example in the sense that it demonstrates the complexities of the demented mind of deranged criminals. You should also learn to not merely take things at face value.
So, all criminals in prison are deranged? Application of fiction in real life? Shit man, I should use that as an example of an oxymoron. Fictional books are required in educational curriculum because many of them are well written, entertaining and provide the criteria that they are paper with words on them.
The book is a good example in the sense that it demonstrates the complexities of the demented mind of deranged criminals. [editline]08:13AM[/editline] and demented
I'd tell Furioso to go bury his head three feet down in dirt so we don't have to talk to him any more, but he's already got his head up his ass. :nyd: But shit man, we can argue with him. He's read clockwork orange! Clearly he's got a professional understanding of the criminal mind. After all, who needs to ability to empathize and walk around in somebody else's shoes when you can just read dramatized fiction instead! Brilllliant!
cool, how about you actually quote a post with these non-existent posts rather than a completely irrelevant one posting 101 now in session
didn't really feel like quoting about ten posts k sry
what?! you mean a fictional book isn't the best evidence for viewing criminals as a single minded hive mind?! but then i might have to actually speak to them, and that's gross!
I know, I've got a great idea, we should have put Josef Fritzl in Halden instead of sentencing him to life imprisonment Maybe a couple years being treated like a human being surrounded by posh accommodations and luxuries that most criminals don't have while they were free is going to cancel out the 24 years of brutal abuse he inflicted upon his daughter and her family We probably should have done this with the war criminals of WWII that supported the holocaust and other war crimes too. Y'know, despite the fact that the majority of them witnessed the often brutal killings of innocent people and witnessed the effects of their actions for years without so much as a guilty thought, I'm sure that a "prison" with accommodations comparable to an expensive hotel and a few educational courses are going to set them straight I can use sarcasm too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [editline]01:21AM[/editline]
all criminals are deranged and demented - furiso direct quote
Please note: I stated that deranged criminals are demented. I'm not enough of a bastard to put a thief in the same category as a murderer or a rapist [editline]01:23AM[/editline]
But shit man, we can argue with him. Brilllliant!
My point is that I don't understand why murderers and rapists are being treated like they are when they've inflicted so much pain and abuse towards their victims and their families If somebody in your family was murdered or raped, you'd totally support putting them in Halden, right?
