Are they actually?
Shit like this doesn't seem to ever happen in britain (mostly because we are well aware of how powerless we all are)

Really they aren't, especially not the one mentioned. Just because a few dickheads think this was a good idea doesn't not mean they all are. As pretentious as some of the students at this college are, they aren't bad people by any means.
that was a bad post yeh, it's not very consistent but it can be noticeable in a lot of places, especially with something like this. Being black I probably shouldn't even be worrying about it, but there's situations like this that happens in schools (let me throw out a disclaimer that im not actually enrolled in a school right now) and outside where some people seem to be convinced that doing these types of things that either ends up scaring someone or just makes someone feel uncomfortable is right (in terms of racial relations) and I'm wondering if that's just the lack of communication of people saying "no, don't do that, it doesn't make sense", because there's definitely times where I have to tell myself that at least one person involved in something like this at least said "don't you think people will get the wrong idea?"
what the fuck, who is this even helping?
themselves, for 5 minutes.
This happens so frequently and there's a complete lack of concequences that even if 90% of these get found out there's still probably a 10% that never get uncovered and get used to successfully push a political agenda. To some it probably really is worth it.
i'd argue not quite. its kind of a thrill thing for fire fighters that do this.
Not really entirely a thrill either though. A very large number of volunteer departments only get paid per hour actually working a fire, so money is generally a very large contributor to arson in the department. One of the largest demographics for arson in the US is actually paid volunteer firefighters, to the point that you're instructed to not wear any of your gear even partially when going to work because if shit goes down and you're caught walking in even remotely ready you'll be automatically investigated for arson.
One of my old highschool buddies was a volunteer fire fighter and he walked into the station for a shift moments before the thing went off for a fire and he had his helmet on his head since his hands were full. He was the prime suspect for the arson investigator and couldn't come into work for like two months because of the investigation.
I'd wager that these diversity offices on campuses are largely subject to a similar issue, if there isn't a problem with people not being massive bigoted assholes, then they're out of work and look like system leaches who do nothing but waste resources. At least firefighters have the excuse of not being needed is actually perfectly okay because their job is to be here in case of need, not because they're actively needed right now.
