They probably would not have tried to get in contact with the principal for his side of the story since that would be a conflict of interest (when I wrote a story for a high school newspaper about a legal issue that was facing the school, I went to the nearest lawyer's office to get an expert source on the issue. Ironically, the one I picked happened to be the school district's lawyers as well, and they said they couldn't comment on anything due to conflict of interest). Again, the whole point of a press release is to attract the attention of journalists and the media so [i]they[/i] can do the reporting to the public. 2) The article did not include a statement along the lines of "Attempts to contact the school administration for comment on the incident went unanswered." That's how journalists are supposed to compensate for a lack of a primary source for the other side of the story, as there's not much else they can do in time to meet their deadlines.
