My dad was a full addict of the old Gran Turismo on PS1. And noticed his driving, not actually bad or anything, he just noticed that drove like he was in the game. Then he played video games no more.
Just becausea lot of kids play video games and a lot of kids have cars accidents doesn't mean video games cause car accidents.
On the contrary, I know someone who's had their driving skills improved because of video games. I think video games actually help to show people what it's like.
A new assault at video games:
Certainly explains my tenancies to drive on the sidewalk, and act like im playing Underground 1 with a rice burner.
Source, don't read this while driving
Grand Theft Auto doesn't make you a bad driver, bad drivers play Grand Theft Auto. :smug:
I has a 120 ton apocalypse tank that travells at 60 miles per hour, I ALWAYS have the right of way. (this includes houses and small skyscrapers too)
didn't play with a wheel and joysticks are not in any sort of steering wheel shape
this is bullshit and does not deserve to exist
Well shit.
On the plus side, my commute to work is never boring. :v:

The closest I ever came to being a bad driver after playing racing games was a long streak of playing NFS: Most Wanted, and then I found myself making a right turn from the far left lane on a fortunately empty street...
Also, sometimes I think about sliding between cars and trees on the sidewalk like I did in APB...
I am legally not allowed to drive considering how I'm not 16 and I can barely see over the wheel yet.
I always drive nicely in GTA :v:
i can't drive at all in any video game i always crash into everything.
Some of the songs from Burnout 2 poped into my head reading this thread.

Bad news is, I keep running people over. Good news is, they're all hookers, and they drop enough money to fix the dents in my hood.
What if I play Live For Speed with a Logitech G25 wheel? That's pretty much real driving. Not that I would know what real driving is like.
There is no "feel" response in your body like reality. This is also common in flight simmers, and when flight simmers transition to real flying, this is always an issue.
This is such bullshit, I played driving games all my life and got my drivers license with no mistakes made, I never even had an accident except for one which was the other guys' fault anyways and he ended up paying the damages.
Bullshit. All my years of Need for Speed will pay off one day when cars are sliding out of control all around me as I breeze by, you just wait
I always drive nicely in GTA :v:
I would too if my xbox triggers didn't register as buttons. :saddowns:
Here I was thinking it was going to be an informative study about brain capacity and how if all your skill points go to playing video games, less are left for driving :v:
how does what you do in video games affect your behavior in the real world
how is it possible
I always pick up a hooker, fuck her in a dark alley, pay her, then speed away with her still in the car, screaming and struggling in fear as I run down and shoot pedestrians, smash and scrape the car before coming to a sudden stop by crashing into a wall, sending her through the windshield while I am miraculously unharmed. Afterward, I casually walk up to her as she lies there in pain, barely alive, and wait for the ambulance to show. I kill both paramedics after they tend to her and then beat her to death with a baseball bat, taking back my money and any money she made earlier.
I just can't help myself, I can't distinguish the difference between fiction and reality.
:golfclap:
Dude, that's the best thing I've heard all day.
To the contrary, driving in real life has made me more inclined to follow the rules of the road in GTA, rather than making me a reckless driver in real life.
[editline]11:24PM[/editline]
Then again in GTA I still very rarely follow the rules of the road, but sometimes I'm in the mood for driving like an AI. I dunno
Fucking agree'd. Before I learned how to drive I was driving like a maniac in GTA games, but now that I got my driver's license, I started playing the game and followed the rules as best as I could. It was only half-way into the game that I realized the police would actually chase you if you were speeding or bumping into other vehicles!
Well I'm an avid gamer and I've just turned seventeen, let's see how my driving is affected by my gaming habits.
I'm doing this for SCIENCE, people. You can't argue with science.
lmao i suck at driving
This is BULLSHIT, when I started driving I was shitting myself behind the wheel and was anxious. So I took my time, I like to stay safe on the road. You know why? because I know the difference between reality and virtual reality and I'm sure alot of gamers know this too. You can't blame all factors on video games that's just a lie, if a person doesn't know the proper way to behave in society in the first place something is bound to go wrong. Its down to the person and what they have been taught, not violent entertainment. I think alot of this bullshit is coming from higher crime rates and people have to blame it on something perhaps? I don't know. All i know is that Crimes rates are bound to go up, people are finding more extreme measures to earn money and have fun. At least video games offer another window for some people to unleash their violence rather than dishing it out in real life.
all i read was "this is BULLSHIT".
there's no association between reckless driving and video games.
the kind of person who's going to drive dangerously is probably also going to enjoy games like GTA. not the other way round
In fact I would say video gamers would be able to drive better. Most gamers should have increased hand-eye coordination and heightened reflexes compared to non gamers.
Three different countries conducted research that now links games like "Grand Theft Auto" to actual reckless driving, speeding, crossing double yellow lines and tailgating.
Funny, I've never done any of this. I only occasionally drive over the speed limit, though never more than 10MPH faster.
My father, however. Holy shit he tailgates even on the busiest interstates and freeways. Once when he was maintaining a solid three-foot distance between his car and the car in front of him on I-93 in the middle of rush-hour traffic, my mom asked him why he tailgates, and his response? "My father taught me to never leave room on the freeway, or else some jerk will cut in front of me."
Oh no, it couldn't be how kids learn how to drive from their parents, it must be vidya games! :downs:

Just my normal drive to work. :v:
There is no "feel" response in your body like reality. This is also common in flight simmers, and when flight simmers transition to real flying, this is always an issue.
Actually, when I made the transition to real flying, the only problem I had was locating the screenshot key when I turned onto the runway and commented on the awesome graphics (true story).
If this were true, wouldn't we see more people making turns at high speed while grinding the side of their cars on the walls?
