Heh, one nice thing that I adore about the older ones there. Hell, the '99 P71 I bought last week turns significantly wider than my '85 F150! I'll prolly retrofit those to mine at some point during its imminent restoration, honestly. That, cruise control, bucket seats, a nice modern AM/FM radio(Possibly a SYNC from a newer F150 haven't decided yet), and probably an R-134a conversion for the factory aircon it has. My warning was always the door making the most ungodly clatter you ever heard going down the road :v: Then again, if there's one thing time was least kind to on mine, it'd be the doors. Slam them hard as you want, latched secure and not coming open, they still rattled and flopped a bit. That is simply ridiculous. Turbocharged V6s can sound like absolute monsters, they should just make the actual engine sound good instead. Intersting technology but ultimately a pointless one, one to solve a problem that shouldn't exist in the first place. Reversing a car is one of the most basic maneuvers one could ever perform and being able to competently reverse anything their license allows them to drive should be mandatory knowledge for holding said license. Oh well. [editline]25th September 2015[/editline] Steer your roomie into a mid-to-late-80s Toyota Hilux. 22RE gets way better MPG than even the most miserly of Detroit half-tons, 4WD, tough as if not tougher than the best Detroit offers, and maintenance is gonna be pennies on it. He can have his truck cake and afford to eat it too!
have you ever backed up a trailer? it's not as easy as it sounds
The best model of truck is your neighbors.
I am that neighbor with the truck, then. [editline]25th September 2015[/editline]
have you ever backed up a trailer? it's not as easy as it sounds
Once you get a hang of it, it's pretty easy. Pretty counter intuitive at first but you figure it out and then it's nothing.
The best model of truck is your neighbors.
Unless I'm your neighbor, in which case the response is always "Unless you're willing to wait till I'm off work and pay me for the gas you're not getting the use of my truck. Oh, and no, you're not driving it, I'm not willing to put a clutch in it next week."
have you ever backed up a trailer?
I have, actually.
it's not as easy as it sounds
It actually is as easy as it sounds. I've done it before, plenty of times. I'm confident enough in my ability that I could reverse anything from a jetski to a 53' semi trailer on demand. I maintain that being able to back up anything your license allows you to legally drive down the highway should be a requirement for holding that license in the first place. If you can't reverse a pickup with a trailer you have no business towing a trailer in the first place.
I have backup sensors on my truck and they make life much easier. I parallel street park my truck, and all vehicles I've ever driven every day at my house, and it is simply a luxury to have that, I've never used a backup camera but I'm sure it'd be similar. I learned without them, but I would never want a truck without them again.

It's like they're trying to go back to the boxy truck look but with a modern approach, shame because I really liked the redesign from '99 onwards through 08/09'(first gen super duty I think it was?) It wasn't crazy on the curves like the chevy trucks but wasn't completely box like either. Now it just feels like they want to copy GMC. My dad's little '99 Ford Ranger looks more like a F150 then the F150's did from the front. :v:
If there's room for it, our F-150 is the easiest car to park I've ever driven. It's very square and that makes a huge difference. You can tell exactly where all four corners of the truck are, no guessing at all. You can see out the back very clearly and where the window ends is where the truck ends. It's also got backup sensors and a camera, but even without them it'd be so easy.
I'd love to have something like this in my Tacoma (it's a Hilux for you non-americans). Very comfortable truck to ride in, it's not excessively large, the lift isn't stupidly high, and the ride is fantastic. It's got plenty of space in the bed and inside for people, but if I have more than myself and one passenger, I can't really carry much with me.
I've never liked pickup trucks, and I like their owners even less. Fucking making me wait so you can take a couple extra seconds to backup into a parking space so you can feel manly, you small dick cut fuck eat more wanker

Also, I have a tiny dick? Really, are you 5 years old? How about you take the time to learn patience. Some of us have very valid reasons for owning a truck.
Lol. Of all the things I've longed for in my '85 F150 I don't think a locking gun case has ever been on the list. [editline]25th September 2015[/editline] I just wish they weren't so god damned enormous. I've parked my '85 F150 next to 2010 and newer models and it was positively dwarfed. An already large vehicle looked like a fucking go kart next to its descendents. WTF? That size is negating all the economy benefits from more efficient engines 'n shit, too, 90% sure its why they get no better mileage than mine.
Pretty much this. I can't for the life of me justify an F150's size, but something like the old Ranger would be perfect for my uses.
The only thing I hate about truck owners right now is the dumb popularity of a set of "nuts" hanging from the tow hitch. Also the dipshits who put spoilers on a truck.
The only thing I hate about truck owners right now is the dumb popularity of a set of "nuts" hanging from the tow hitch. Also the dipshits who put spoilers on a truck.
Wait, people still have truck nuts?
Oh it's definitely practical, no question about it... just implying that it tends to perpetuate the stereotype of the kind of people who usually purchase these trucks: southern, conservative and gun-toting hillbillies. Either them, or douches turning them into "brodozers". [editline]25th September 2015[/editline] It's a shame not many people purchase them and use them to the best of their abilities, but then again, there's people who purchase Ferraris and use them to cruise no faster than 65 on a highway and show off... like keeping a lion in a tiny cage for the rest of his life. Oh well.
You know they appeal to those types of demographics because that's precisely who they market it to right This is an innovation designed for their target audience.
Somewhat off topic but, I'm thinking of getting into HVAC training and if I like it, I might get truck. I would be looking for something with decent or good milage.
Wait, people still have truck nuts?
It still exists in some semi-rural areas. One truck that I regularly see has a set of blue balls hanging.

I park carefully because it's a huge vehicle and I try extremely hard to leave as much space as possible for the cars around me.
