Ongoing DDoS attacks stressing their servers.
Ongoing meaning... lasting several weeks.
So that's the closed reason as to why AT&T blocked /b/
Sir, we have a problem.
What.
There's a massive amount of nerds outside the building. They demand a website be allowed access again.
Well, what are our tactical options?
Sir, we need to release: operation Nukem.
Has it come to this?
Yes.
*Sigh*, forgive me father. Get me Take-Two Interactive on the phone.
Then they find out it's really a shit game they've been waiting on for 10 years and they tear their building down.
you didn't read part two of Operation: Fuck you dirty americans
So, if they closed JUST /b/, then how come http://www.4chan.org/ itself doesn't load...
Wait a minute.

* 3:00AM EST, July 27 - DDoS of 4chan starts, probably because of all the attention this incident drew. AT&T is NOT involved with this.

4Chan is showing for me.
Got Comcast here, because i'm not a fucking idiot
4chan loads, but very slowly.
We got us a mystery to solve, Max!

They're gonna be pissed.

you crack me up little buddy
I'm fine. I'm with Qwest (Denver) which doesn't care what the hell you do. I've been torrenting for three years (we're talking massive 50GB+ downloads constantly) and they don't care.
Fuck AT&T, fuck Congress, fuck anyone who thinks they can control information.
It's been unblocked. Hopefully they never try to pull that shit again.
It's been unblocked. Hopefully they never try to pull that shit again.
they didn't pull anything
i have a friend that works high-up at AT&T, you want me to call him and ask or something?
So in the end, the AT&T block only lasted 2 days. Cogent is blocking 4chan entirely, and anontalk still wants to DDoS 4chan.
A Day in the life

Just use OpenDNS, you should be able to go on their site as long as the blocking is dns.

I'm pretty sure they did censor a website, so I don't know what you're getting at.
I can't seem to decide if this is a good thing or not.
I'm pretty sure they did censor a website, so I don't know what you're getting at.
yeah they censored it for two hours just to fuck with people
not like technical difficulties exist

It was blocked for around a day because of the DDOSing that led other customers to cause a shitstorm. Server strain and whiny people is what got in censored.
It's not like it matters now, anyway.

That's not censoring.

I've never heard of AT&T untill now.
4CHAN WAS BLOCKED BECAUSE IT BEING CONSTANTLY DDOS'D WAS SCREWING WITH AT&T'S NETWORK
Not because of any conspiracy horseshit.

Actually, they are. They are returning responses to hundreds of thousands of
SPOOFED SYN requests. Where do you think those are gonna go? The ACKs are gonna
come back to the network in which IPs were SPOOFed from, essentially, causing a
DDoS on a network not even really involved.

Is that some kind of threat or what? Why would you even make a statement like that?

They don't have the right to protect their network? So you're saying, if someone
is DDoSing your network either direct or indirect, the network operator is just
supposed to sit there and do nothing while all of it's customers get crappy
internet service because of something they probably don't even know about or
care about.
>> This ISN'T the first time this has happened.
>
Don't cut it off there. This ISN'T the first time it's happened, as 4chan goes
through DDoSes from script kiddies on a regular basis, and it harms lots of
networks along the way in the process.
> Exactly.
>
> Now you see the problem ?

The problem is the DDoS attacks. Not AT&T. 4chan's users constantly instigate
this. Chris Poole needs to do more than just sit back and watch. He needs to
start collecting this information and turning it in to the authorities, because
all of this is convered under domestic terrorism as a cyber-crime. I'm betting
there's reasons why he hasn't. He's afraid to get into trouble himself on some
of the content that's posted to /b/... whether it's there 5 seconds or 5 minutes.

There has been alot of customers on our network who were complaining about ACK
scan reports coming from 207.126.64.181. We had no choice but to block that
single IP until the attacks let up. It was a decision I made with the gentleman
that owns the colo facility currently hosts 4chan. There was no other way around
it. I'm sure AT&T is probably blocking it for the same reason. 4chan has been
under attack for over 3 weeks, the attacks filling up an entire GigE. If you
want to blame anyone, blame the script kiddies who pull this kind of stunt.
If the government chooses to block a website, I don't see that as a problem, but it should not be the right of a private corporation to choose what people see and cannot see.
If the government chooses to block a website, I don't see that as a problem, but it should not be the right of a private corporation to choose what people see and cannot see.
If the US government blocks a website, it is a blatant violation of the Constitution and illegal.
Too bad this won't be on the news. Whenever /b/ does something the media doesn't report it anymore, or if the /b/tards followed rules 1 and 2 then someone else will get blamed.
I pretty much never go to /b/ but I go to 4chans other boards.
And it's good I live in Sweden we don't have shit like this :clint:
lol 1984 but in america where is your freedoms now
