If the government chooses to block a website, I don't see that as a problem, but it should not be the right of a private corporation to choose what people see and cannot see.
Go die in a fire, honestly it makes me sick knowing that kids like you will soon have an actual say in politics soon.
EDIT: Annnnd that's what I get for not reading the whole 10 pages. My post is irrelevant because AT&T unblocked it.
I am writing Randall a letter Randall Stephenson, AT&T CEO rs2982@att.com (direct) randall.stephenson@att.com phone: 210-351-5401 (direct to his secretary) fax 210-351-3553 alternate phone: 210-821-4105 (headquarters, press 3, ask for Mr. Stephenson's office) 175 E. Houston San Antonio, TX 78205
My email to him:
The idea you had for blocking /b and /r9k... I don't go on them personally, but no matter what your reasons were, this is simply irresponsible behaviour for an ISP. One in particular was that there were too many DDOS attacks involved with these sites, making your networks slower. The real answer would have been to make YOUR networks faster. You already get more than enough in profits to improve things at no cost to the consumer. And you do have a monopoly. There are many locations where AT&T is the only ISP. So... this is just a friendly warning, but there are some people who will take this very personally. There are /b/tards who really are going to attack YOUR network, from inside your company and out. These people have a physical presence too: you might want to get some bomb sniffing dogs on your premises, among other things. Bad idea you had.

I have full respect for AT&T now.
This just makes me think that whoever said ignorance is bliss was a fool Besides, AT&T is no longer blocking, so this thread is now moot at this point.
The internet was the only true raw and uncensored entity (same could probably be said for /b/) that I know of. What. The. Fuck.
Question for the wannabe lawyers of the site: Isn't this grounds for a lawsuit? People go to a website, view/click ads, and the revenue from those ads keeps the site running. So, isn't an ISP cutting off access to a website the same thing as Wal-Mart sending it's employees across the street to build a wall across the entrance to someone else's business? This is nothing less than physically preventing people from accessing a website, and in the world of regular business, it's highly illegal to physically keep people from physically entering a place of business.
Well, not really. ISP's get you to the website, it's more like the greyhound changing their bustops. Greyhound isn't responsible for providing a store with customers. Regardless, this is real dickish thing for AT&T to do, won't ever be using their service if I can help it. [editline]05:32PM[/editline]
If the government chooses to block a website, I don't see that as a problem, but it should not be the right of a private corporation to choose what people see and cannot see.
wat That's like saying it's ok for the government to make it illegal to eat steak but it's not ok for a restaurant to be vegetarian. You don't HAVE to eat at that restaurant, that's what a free market means. And yes, I do understand that AT&T has a monopoly in places, but at the most, that would call for the government to step in and encourage other businesses to open up in the area.
With me not knowing how /b/ operates or anything, from what i've heard wouldn't they just start an internet war with AT&T?? and most likely win? lol
With me not knowing how /b/ operates or anything, from what i've heard wouldn't they just start an internet war with AT&T?? and most likely win? lol
Probably. They have some serious internet precedence.
Fuck you AT&T, suck my Comcast subscriber dick.
I just got this announcement on Steam:
AT&T Statement Regarding img.4chan.org posted by desu.Lucky @ 10:12AM on July 28, 2009 Dallas, Texas, July 27, 2009 Beginning Friday, an AT&T customer was impacted by a denial-of-service attack stemming from IP addresses connected to img.4chan.org. To prevent this attack from disrupting service for the impacted AT&T customer, and to prevent the attack from spreading to impact our other customers, AT&T temporarily blocked access to the IP addresses in question for our customers. This action was in no way related to the content at img.4chan.org; our focus was on protecting our customers from malicious traffic. Overnight Sunday, after we determined the denial-of-service threat no longer existed, AT&T removed the block on the IP addresses in question. We will continue to monitor for denial-of-service activity and any malicious traffic to protect our customers. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's what happened: For the past three weeks, 4chan has been under a constant DDoS attack. We were able to filter this specific type of attack in a fashion that was more or less transparent to the end user. Unfortunately, as an unintended consequence of the method used, some Internet users received errant traffic from one of our network switches. A handful happened to be AT&T customers. In response, AT&T filtered all traffic to and from our img.4chan.org IPs (which serve /b/ & /r9k/) for their entire network, instead of only the affected customers. AT&T did not contact us prior to implementing the block. In the end, this wasn't a sinister act of censorship, but rather a bit of a mistake and a poorly executed, disproportionate response on AT&T's part. Whoever pulled the trigger on blackholing the site probably didn't anticipate [nor intend] the consequences of doing so. We're glad to see this short-lived debacle has prompted renewed interest and debate over net neutrality and internet censorship—two very important issues that don't get nearly enough attention—so perhaps this was all just a blessing in disguise. Aside from that, I'll also add that there is some big news due later this week. Keep an eye on the News page, Twitter, and global message for updates.
Then I retract my statement.
Bullshit, I'm on AT&T and it's still working fine for me.
Bullshit, I'm on AT&T and it's still working fine for me.
Hey look it's someone who can't read the posts right above him
Bullshit, I'm on AT&T and it's still working fine for me.
They lifted the block. Crisis (unfortunately) averted.
They lifted the block. Crisis (unfortunately) averted.
Yeah, it would have been really funny to see this explode any further. Giver just a few more days...
Hey look it's someone who can't read the posts right above him
Hey look it's an asshole who doesn't realize that I didn't read the whole thread. I don't have to read the whole thread to post. God, some people need to grow up.
Hey look it's an asshole who doesn't realize that I didn't read the whole thread. I don't have to read the whole thread to post. God, some people need to grow up.
Or you could read the fucking thread. I don't know where you came from, but here generally you should know what the conversation is before you come in and show your small penis to us.
Hey look it's an asshole who doesn't realize that I didn't read the whole thread. I don't have to read the whole thread to post. God, some people need to grow up.
Hey look it's an idiot who can't look 2 posts up to see that it's been resolved.
http://www.slideshare.net/total/holocaust-poetry #5 maybe you'll stop pretending like this is good just because you didn't like the fucking website
I don't care if AT&T banned every website. I understand your point, but no one should stand up for shit like failchan.
Hey look it's an idiot who can't look 2 posts up to see that it's been resolved.
Hey look it's two assholes who take the internet way too seriously and need to just shut the fuck up and accept that normal people aren't going to read 8 pages of a thread just so they can post. :jerkbag:
I don't care if AT&T banned every website. I understand your point, but no one should stand up for shit like failchan.
Just get the fuck out of this thread then, I can't wait to see a thread about you being butthurt because your ISP follows the same route that AT&T started using and they block something you actually like.
Hey look it's two assholes who take the internet way too seriously and need to just shut the fuck up and accept that normal people aren't going to read 8 pages of a thread just so they can post. :jerkbag:
It was on this page, genius.
Would be funny if anon launched an attack on AT&T, I would laugh sooo fucking hard if they took down the entire service or caused them to go bankrupt. AT&T always sucked though. I do not want them to set the habit for ISPs to censor the internet... Censorship is the absolute WORST thing in the entire world! I have always thought this, and this is just proving it further. Fuck big corporations.
My ISP is AT&T and I'm able to access /b/. So I'm a little confused.
My ISP is AT&T and I'm able to access /b/. So I'm a little confused.
Wow, do people read at all?
Wow, do people read at all?
All 10 pages? No.
EDIT: Annnnd that's what I get for not reading the whole 10 pages. My post is irrelevant because AT&T unblocked it. My email to him:
"Oh shit some kid emailed me what a problem this will be when I delete it"
All 10 pages? No.
It was on this page.
I think this thread needs be locked. Too many idiots are coming in now. :P
