I think this thread needs be locked. Too many idiots are coming in now. :P
or Alex, the OP, can stop INVITING all these late comers and update the first post with more current info.
If it was something severe like child porn then I'd understand. All /b/ do it plot raids and piss off a few people.
It was on this page.
Does it fucking matter? Once you post, you've posted, and THEN you might notice a post two above your own, but I'm not one to snip things.
Whatever page it's on, you have to read to get there, and who the fuck wants to read 10 pages.
Just because you have no life and the only thing you can do is a browse a facepunch thread about /b/ to feel better about yourself, doesn't mean you have to be a giant asshole about it.
Crawl back to your little chan now, loser.
AT&T is obviously scientology religion worshipers.
But really its because of the child porn posted there.
Just get the fuck out of this thread then, I can't wait to see a thread about you being butthurt because your ISP follows the same route that AT&T started using and they block something you actually like.
My ISP can't do that.
Reason: There's nothing I care about that much. If they block a site I go to then oh well.
It's /b/, they'll find a way around this very very quickly.
My thought is that AT&T wanted to block those sections and when they did the awoke the monster that is /b/ and they regretted it. They didn't realize what they had gotten into, so they unblocked it and said it was a mistake.
Yep, that's what happened.
I don't know if this was posted before, but this is what /b/ did in retaliation (among other things):

Oh noooo, they killed their CEO! [/stupid]
Also, no one believes them. It never made actual news.

Well, it's obviously fake :/ (it's supposed to be funny because of the lower paragraph)
"AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson was found dead in his multi-million dollar beachfront mansion, say official sources. Stephenson was "delerious" when found by paramedics on the shore just outside his 20 bedroom home. A friend had called 911 after a night of what he called male dancers everywhere and the best blow west of the missisipi. He was reported dead on arrival, having gone into a coma in transit-a suspected side effect of massive cocaine use.
Except with telecoms that's NOT how it works, most of the country only has one, maybe two high-speed providers to choose from.
We are a tiny country and we have 3 of them.

Someone is insecure about themselves so they need to talk about other peoples lives... Pretty sad.
Crawl back to your little chan now, loser.
Funny, because I said on the second page that I don't goto /b/ or /r9k/.
Fuckin' finally
2012 - Defend the net!
Blocking /b/ probably doesn't lose them a whole lot of customers.
If they were to block a more popular website because it was contradictory to the common US beliefs (I can't think of an example, although I'm sure somebody can) or began blocking porn websites (lol) I'm sure that it would be bad for their business so long as alternative ISPs exist who don't have those restrictions.
As soon as everybody starts it, then we'll have a problem.
From a business standpoint, however, freedom of internet is a good thing for businesses as people, especially Americans who are used to taking liberties, will buy a service from a company who allows you to do more with their service. Until this sort of thing becomes mandatory by federal law, I'm not concerned.'
And then I read this part of the thread and realized it was a mistake and not censorship. Oh well, point still stands.
Unless I'm misinterpreting something here, they're only blocking /b/ and /r9k/ :downs:
Did you even FUCKING read what I quoted and said? I was telling this to someone who suggested the blocking of the whole site.
Learn to read before trying to :downs: others.
Read the thread before you post. Or at least the last page or two.
oh crap net neutrality better not come to fruition
The thing is, if corporations and ISPs start seriously blocking sites, a shit ton of small "blacknets" are going to pop up everywhere. I don't think the governments/corporations/ISPs realize what kind of shithole they will be in if they start censoring, especially in the U.S.
